tramadol for opiate withdrawl, will it help
Hi, I am a new member, I have been reading many of your postings all morning, and they are very hellpful. Nice to know others out there with same problems. My problem is I have been addicted to roxicodone for 2 yrs I guess. I have tramadol (some) at home and thought maybe it would help. Was in horrible pain this am, but now feel better. I know they can be addcitive to as I used to be a med assitant for a pain mgmt dr. I don't have enough to get addicted to. Just wondering if anyone else quit this way. Can't take the cold turkey as I am very depressed lately. I also take klonopin. Any advice will help.
I don't think it's just in my head, I am not sweating or crying in pain anymore. I know this medicine works different on different people. It affects pain receptors, so maybe it is helping mine? Tried to wean down some on the roxys first too. Thanks for your reply
have no money now and it takes weeks to get in around here. I also know that it can be one of the most addictive opiates. I think the clinics want to keep you on it so you keep coming and they make money.I know people who have been on it for years. I don't want that.
Tramadol should help a bit as it is a slight opiate analgesic. If you already tapered a bit from the roxi's then you should probably be alright using the tramadol. Methadone is a good option for addicts who also have pain issues.
Yeah i asked my Dr. about Methadone without telling her i was addicted to the roxys, she is totally against them for pain and said it is dangeroous and addictive. I thught maybe I could wean down on it. It's hard cause I have legitimate chronic pain, and i should know better after working in pain mgmt. but it just happend. Guess I built up a tolerance. I also have a boyfriend addicted with a script which didn't help either. I just want to be free and take a pill occasionally when i really need one. When I think of the money we'd save. plus I feel like such a looser. Took tramadol 100mg this am around 11 and just now feeling cruddy. I took 50 more mg. I have to make it to wed somehow,to get roxy rx and want to be weaned way down by then. If i could live on one a day or 2 at most instead of 5 it would be great. I have had my same dr. for 2 years and really like her, don't want to disapoint her. plus she gives me a discount as a professional courtesy. I never tell her if i run out.I am too embarassed and scared. plus she seems to be one of the only ones willing to write for my klonopin for severe anxiety. I am so proud, i used to be on a bunch of xanax, and now just 1 to2 klonopin a day. I have tried every anti depressant there is so far and they all cause more depresssion and anxiety. I just have to do this on my own. thanks for the support one more question, i read immodium is a mu opiate or something and would help, but i have bad constipation and not diareah, at least not yet
Tramadol should definitely help t alleviate some withdrawal symptoms. I have used it for that same purpose before. Also imodium is a opiate but doesnt really cross the blood brain barrier so I doubt it will do anything except stop diahrea.
I guess I'll wait til i need the imodium for that reason then. I have a horrrible stomach ache, but just cramps. I read that there are opiate recptors in your stomach a nd nervous system, I wonder if the imodium helps those receptors in the stomach
Day two of no roxys and taking tramadol instead, onlly have a few left so took a 50 then waited.took 2 klonopin and 50mg tramadol last night and actually slept.today i still felt like crapola after 50mgs so took another 1/2. Runny nose and other runs last night. I can actually get up and move around a lttle so it's better than the other times i tried to quit. How often is tramadol supposed to last seems like about 6 hours to me. i'll never make it to wed, or will i be somewhat better by then?
Tramadol is so low on the scale compared to methadone it is surprising you get such good relief. 50 mg Tramadol four times daily is a normal dosage, and people can usually stop that without withdrawal. I don't know how I would even compare it to methadone, but even 2.5 mg a day of Methadone would seem like maybe 10X more than the Tramadol (which is a narcotic too). I will look it up later, if someone else doesn't. Interesting
Thanks but i was on roxy 30's 5 a day not methadone. weaned to 2or 3 at most a day in last week. now just tramadol

At one time in the past I had a prescription for Tramadol, and used it for the exact reason that your post asked, and I can tell you that for me it did next to nothing. It did not even seem to lesson any of the WD symptoms. Maybe for you it may help, but I would not expect much, as Roxi is such a powerfull medication. Something like a prescribed low dosage of methadone might be a good idea.
