Has anyone else taken diazepam with any kind of opioid analgesic? I went the emergency room a couple days ago because I messed up my back (worse than what it already is, anyway) And they gave me two hydro 7.5's and a 5mg valium (along with a take home pack of hydro). I took the two 7.5's but held on to the valium since I didn't want to nod off at the wheel on the way back (my girlfriend was with me but my jeep is kind of hard to drive). After I was out of my little 6-pack of hydro's, I remembered I had the valium. I figured they just gave it to me so I could sleep easier that night.
Anyway I just happend to be browsing around the web and I found out valium is used to amplify the effects of opioids. I ended up breaking it in half and taking a tramadol with it. For the past couple of weeks now, tramadol has been doing absolutely nothing for my pain but when I took it with the valium it actually did a surprisingly good job for pain. My question is, doesn't this mess with your tolerance levels for opioids? And can anyone give me more details in general about how this process works?
I'm sorry if this is all common knowledge here, but until recently I had no idea about combining opioids and diazepam.
Thanks,
Tuna
i think that valium was originally intended to be a muscle relaxer but was later used (and still today) for anxiety disorders.
if you follow this link it can take you to a book about the inventor of valium and it well documents its history. although i am not sure if that blog says to much about its orgins (it is in the book though). additionally, many public librarys have this book.

Sounds fine to me, but if I take Norco, I wait 2-3 hours to take Vallium. I take Vallium 5mg maybe once or twice a week, for muscle spasms. I don't think it has anything to do with tolerance levels for opiates, because it doesn't for me, but I could be wrong...
When I've taken Valium with Hydro I didn't feel anything different. I guess chalk this up to "Every body is different"
I've heard of it helping with muscle spasms, but I found a couple of sources saying that it increases the potency of opiates but it doesnt seem to be very well documented. I thought maybe the valium was helping just with muscle problems at first but then I remembered I took a muscle relaxer earlier and that didnt seem to do much of anything. So i was curious as to what this supposed amplification effect was. Maybe it was just because I hadn't taken my tramadol in a while and my tolerence lowered a little? or the pain just died down temporarily on it's own?

Yes I currently take oxycontin and Valium although I don't take it very often. I find valium to be very helpful is controling muscle spasms that I get in my neck and lower back. It is my understanding that valium is used as a muscle relaxant is many people who have spinal issues. Not only that but it helps with sleep.
