if you look at your other
if you look at your other post asking the difference b/w hydro w/ bitartrate, and hydro w/out, you will see that all vicodin (hydrocodone/tylenol "apap") has the hydro bitartrate. hydrocodone bitartrate is just the medical term used for the ingredient. this is what vicodin is: hydrocodone bitartrate/ acetaminophen. it is just that you don't always see the term "bitartrate" behind it all the time.

Sorry, all vicodin contains hydrocodone bitartrate, you just don't always see this medical term. just like you hear the name Sears, but you don't always hear Sears & Roebuck...

solubility
The term bitartrate refers to the type of salt (not table salt but a chemical salt) this form of the drug is in. Neat hydrocodone is insoluble in water - not a good thing if you're trying to make a tablet for people to consume - it would take a REALLY long time to get the drug into your system which is mostly made of water.
By making the hydrocodone the bitartrate salt, you have changed the solubility properties (how easily something dissolves in something else) of the molecule and now the drug will be soluble with water - and presto - you can now happily absorb it.
It doesn't change the fact that there is still hydrocodone in your tablet, it just changes your ability to absorb it.

i still dont understand what bitartrate is. is this a narcotic? how come some hydrocodones include it and some don;t?
