Im sorry im posting again.

Friday night my thumb got smashed by the frame of my s10 blazer falling on it, and torn it very deep. I went to the er and all they did was clean the wound wrap it up and put it in a splint. They x-rayed and also saw that it was broke in many places, they gave me no pain meds.

I been cleaning it all weekend just like they said even 3 times a day, so today monday, i woke up with a high fever, and went to walk in clinic, and had 101 fever and 112 heartbeat minute sitting, she said it got in my blood stream, and i got a shot of penacillin. And gave me some strong oral antibiotics for infection.

She also prescribed me 20 darvocet-n 100's, and i have never took them. I am in severe pain, can some one cmpare this pill strength to another.

I have taken percocet 5's and 10's, and lortabs 7.5's and 10's.

Are they very weak are will they help the pain a bit, im weary too take them, until i know the strength....

Thankyou for any info, it hurts BAD lol

they are considered a weaker

they are considered a weaker class of narcotic pain medicine but I have always found them useful in pain relief.   I remember years ago after an elbow nerve injury I was written a script for Lortab but took it back and asked for Darvocet, worked better.   Guess it's better to say it really doesn't matter how people perceive or classify medicine, it's what works for you....  IE: Never had much pain relief luck with morphine and would take darvocet over that any day... that's a huge difference in strength, but, it works for me.

thankyou, i took one with

thankyou, i took one with aleve as she told me too, and it relieves a very slight bit of pain, it does help for the heartbeat throbbing pain, but its still quite painfull.

Although it is definetely better than what the er said take 3 tylenol at a time for pain lol

I mean why would they even do that, my x-rays on my thumb was broke in several places and said tylenol what a joke, i had a rough weekend, my whole hand is bruised now.

But i can definetily feel the difference between 3 tylenol, vs 1 darvocet + 2 aleve, it makes me not think of it as much.

I have a question though, she gave me 20 for now, with no refills at 4 a day, but if im still in pain, cant i just call in at like cvs for them to ask for a request of a refill??

The only thing they can do is turn me down for another refill, right?

thanks all

I think I understand your question.  You are asking if you can just call the pharmacy where you had the original prescription, and ask them to fax your doctor a request for a refill.

Yes, you can ask the pharmacy to fax a request, but that doesn't mean your doctor will OK the refill request.

This is not uncommon, at least according to the pharmacist that I talked to at the pharmacy I go to (narcotic contract - I can only use one pharmacy).  My doctor's practice changed how refills were requested a year or so ago.  He now request that all patients call their pharmacy and have them fax a refill request over.  No more calls to the office for refills.

Most pharmacies will indeed

Most pharmacies will indeed call or fax an Rx request for both refills and new prescriptions. However most pharmacies, especially chains don't like to do this for narcotics since the turn down rate from the doctors are much higher than for non controlled meds.
At this point you would probably be better off just going to your primary care doctor with your meds you have been prescribed from the walk in clinic and all paper work from the ER if you need more or better pain relief. Obviuosly it wouldn't hurt to call or go back to the clinic and ask for a refill or better med either but in personal experience it's better to deal with PCP's.
As far as darvocet goes it's one of those it works for you or it doesn't. If I was back to no/low tolerance 10 or so years ago and was given a script for darvocet for something that was broken, that doctor would not be getting paid if s/he couldn't atleast give me tramadol. In certain circumstances I understand giving darvocet to new or walk in patients for "lower back pain" especially with out any records. Without looking I believe propoxyphene the opioid on darvocet is something like 6x's or 10xs more potent than aspirin, so 100mg would equal 600-1000 mg aspirin! Doesn't sound very effective to me. This along with the seriously bad side effects seen with higher doses is why it has been restricted in the UK to patients that have been on it chronically for a long time and no new patients are allowed to receive it, so eventually it can be pulled from the market. Our FDA was told be an FDA advisory panel that it should be pulled from the US market as well recently but somehow Xanodyne the current maker of brand name darvocet convinced them other wise.
But like I said before some people do find it to work. Not to sound like a sexist or something but women tend to like it especially for cramps same thing with tramadol, referring to cramps.

ER'S and Walk-In clinics will not

call in refills.  I agree with Solo,  you should go to your primary care doc if you have one.  Also,  I,  personally,  have never gotten any" severe pain"  relief from Darvocet.  I've always thought that it isn't much better than regular Tylenol.  Take care of that hand and let us know how you're doing.

most people don't like

most people don't like propoxyphene (darvon/darvocet)..But to be honest I had great relief from then when I had a tooth pulled. When he prescribed me that I instantly thought "what a joke" but gave them a shot and worked very well for me..This is usually not the case with this medication, and studys show that few people get relief from this med. I had to take 2 of them to get any relief though.

It is actually not working

It is actually not working very well, but 2 darvocets and 2 aleve does work better than, just 3 tylenol.

And yes it was just a walk in clinic that game me that and she said it may make me drowsy and do not drive and im a 250lb guy, so i figured dang if it could make me drowsy it may be as good as percs, but NO where close.

And as of right now what can i do it is really still painfull, try another walk in clinic, and tell them what last one gave me and wasnt strong enough?

Because i have no primary care doctor as of now, also i have been payin cash no insurance :(
