I was just wondering why sometimes when i take hydrocodone i dont feel it for a week or so and then all of a sudden it comes back. It is really strange and i have been looking for a answer for so long but i cant seem to find anyone who knows. I will really feel it for a couple of months but all of a sudden there is a week where i dont feel it at all when i take them. Is it because i eat on them sometimes and sometimes i take them on a empty stomach. please help cause i am wasting money on meds that dont work!!!!!!!!!
Well....
When I used to take it regularly, (both as Hycodan syrup and Lortab/Vicodin tabs), I noticed that it def. worked better on an empty stomach and when I was in good physical health, ie.well rested, not in acute pain, etc. The more pain you are in the less you will "feel" the drug. If you eat a large meal and then take you will have a greatly diminished effect. Also..(this may be obvious, I dont know?)--You DO know that a tolerence develops rapidly, right? If you take for even a week or two, it will most likely require a higher dose for the same result. If you stop using for a time and THEN take, you will have lost some tolerence and again feel the drug as before.
For some reason there does seem to be a rapid tolerence formed with hydrocod. In my opinion, more so than with oxycod. or other opiates.
(edited)Same experience here.. if taken on an empty stomach, I will feel the effects more so than if I just ate. It even says on the bottle that if taken with food, it may not be as effective.
Also, when I am on hydro and I eat a couple hours or more into it, then the "euphoria", if you will, seems to turn into more of a zombie-like feeling... makes me sleepy, and then I feel completely normal as if I never took one.
I find that my hydrocodone medication works best if taken on an empty stomach. I take my first prescribed dose in the morning before breakfast and always wait at least 15 to 20 minutes before eating. If taken on a full stomach they are not as effective on my pain, and there have been times when I don't feel them at all when taking them that way, so I try to avoid it. Taking them with juice works best for me on an empty stomach. Hope this helps.
I definately agree with the posts so far. I am on a very low dose of hydrocondone and it definately works better for me when taken on an empty stomach. Like cruisecontrol said if you take it then wait about 20-30 min for it to kick in then you can eat and the effects will not be altered. In my case I think this is the best way to do it becaue it seems to make the pain killing effects last longer.
If you are taking Hydrocodone for more than 3 scripts you need to talk to your doctor about some things... A. Hydrocodone tend to have a high level of aceteminephine in them which can cause serious damage to your body, especially if you take OTC's throughout this treatment for pain management. B. the drug is not designed for long term use so if long term pain management is your lot in life, you need to either be honest with your doc or go somewhere else. Your doc may just switch you to Percocet which offers a higher level of pain management when you need it and a lower level of aspirin so you can keep your liver healthy and regiment in some non-opiate pain reliever periodically without fear of damaging your body. Be careful, these drugs can quicly become your crutch for everything from a ball game to a car ride. Taking hydrocodone for more than one script is something I rarely hear of. Take care!
First of all hydrocodone is used for long time treatment of chronic pain. Second most mixtures are not asprin they are tylenol. Ibuprofin is not good to use for long time use that is why doctors prescribe opiates with tylenol which is safer for long term use.
Acetaminophen is Tylenol. So fine, however Acetaminophen is even more toxic than Aspirin on the liver. And Doctor's who script hydrocodone for long term pain management are either quacks or on the take because it is a weak and traditionally short term medicine. Sorry, but them's the fact's. Ask someone with pain.

Since it's obvious you're very used to opiates such as the class three hydrocodone. You may not feel them as well from eating that is a possibility. And if you havn't received an increase in a awhile. That could be another contributing factor that is playing a role in you not feeling them as much at certain intervals of time. You may want to check and find out if you can possibly have an increase if you havn't had one recently. If you think the hydrocodones are no longer working for your pain you may need to move up to a class two pain reliever. Such as percocet or oxycontin or a combination of both. I hope everything works out for you and your pain management. Take care.
