IMO

Benzo withdrawal is way worse than opiate withdrawal....All I can suggest is 1) get professional help...there is a real risk of having seziures when withdrawing from benzos, esp. with that high of a dosage. 2) Slowly taper the dosage yourself. Whatever you decide to do ...BE CAREFUL..

Nobody here

can offer you advice on a taper. You said you don't even know if you were actually taking real pills half the time. In any event, 50mg of Valium isn't a colossal dose, but, how can I say this, without professional help, you could die from a seizure if you drop down to quick or abruptly stop.

It's time to face the music my friend. You're an addict. Go somewhere that offers help to addicts. They can customize a taper for your specific situation.

P.S. Keep in mind, if you were getting the pills from a doctor, they would most likely have no problem tapering you off safely. Valium is one of the two most efficent drugs to use in benzodiazepine withdrawal. It could have been so simple. Here is where you will face the consequences of your actions. Best of luck to you. I hope you have an easy go at it.

Theres really no easy short cut around this. Your best bet would be to go to a real doctor so he can moniter your intake and slowly taper you off the right way so you dont have a seizure.

Ashton Manual

...is the gospel in the U.K., but I've found that physicians in the United States seem to prefer clonazepam over diazepam for a taper. They also tend to "rush" the withdrawal process. As you're well aware milo, Ashton basically advocates patient controlled dose decreases during withdrawal, something I'm certainly not opposed to, but U.S. physicians, (at least the vast majority,) might be. Benzos. are viewed in a much different light in the U.K. than they are in the United States.

The link milo provided is probably the most accurate, informative site on the internet at present time regarding benzodiazepines and withdrawal therefrom.

I answered in your other thread

So you have been to your physician, psychiatrist, and community addiction team and NONE of these people can help you?   I can only guess it's because you never had a legitimate prescription, but still this is a trainwreck any way you look at it.  At least one of these "professionals" can predict what's going to happen to you and they just send you out the door empty-handed?  I don't understand this.  People can die from seizures withdrawing like this- Do you live here in the U.S ?  I know without health insurance getting into a detox hospital can be hard.  But that's my first suggestion.  2nd would be go to the hospital emergency dept and hope they will be able to help you through this.

Do keep in touch so we know you're alright.  This is worrysome.  Do you have any family members to talk this over with?  You can pm me if you want because this is not something you should go through alone ~ Theresa

Benzo Withdrawl

I have been in the same place you won't die ,but it's the worst feeling . As of now i'm on .05 clonazepam 4 times a day and 5mg of diazepam and 15 mg of temazepam at night . When i couldn't get my prescription filled or if i go a few hrs with out taking the klonopin i go into withdrawl . My advice go to the emergency room if it get's bad you won't wan't to be around people so rent like twenty movies and make sure you have food even though you won't wan't to eat and try to drink water . Go to the er if it does get bad ,but if it get's really bad you will not be able to drive or want to talk to people . I know you didn't sign up for this so if you do decide not to go to the er. Try to like sit in the hot tub . Just remember your not going to die. Oh yeah make sure you have plenty of toilet paper you'll prbably lose like 10lbs . Rent heath ledger and abbie cornish in candy it's very close to what you will be going through  . Well good luck . i would call a dr .        GOOD LUCK.

I would ask for a refferal to

I would ask for a refferal to a psychciatrist, psychiatrists are usually much more clued in to the the ???$* that is benzodiazepine withdrawal and it psychic and neurological effects. You can suggest that you will give urine samples to prove their are and have been benzos in your system, as doctors are under pressure not to begin prescribing benzos because of the dependency issue and also because of diversion and black market sales. But you have a right to treatment, keep driving it home be adamant, tell them they are avoiding their professional responsibility if they do not agree to a taper at least, but I would suggest a refferal to a psychiatrist if your GP will not help you.

Best of luck.

I dont understand this. I

I dont understand this. I regularly take klonopin, sometimes high doses and even stopping cold turkey I never have a problem other than anxiety, maybe a little extra anxiety. Why do so many claim benzo withdrawl to be such a nightmare? Maybe my body is just different. Also never had a problem with hydro withdrawl. Now oxy, thats a different story, thats not very pleasant.
