We have wonderful moderators and appreciate their time and efforts. And we know it's a hard job.
Maybe we can make it a little easier on the mods by presenting polls every so often. Any mod can write a poll and that mod can also determine the length of time the poll should be open.
Most of the time the questions and comments are repetitive. For example:
- Who makes the best/worst hydrocodone/APAP combo?
- How many times do I apply for SSI or SSDI before approval? Is a lawyer necessary?
- Who has the best prices - Mom and Pop stores, CVS, Walgreens, Express Scripts (mail order)?
- Who makes the best/worst oxycodone/APAP combo?
- Is tramadol a good/bad drug?
- Is Suboxone or methadone better for getting off pain killers?
- Which antidepressants are effective for controlling pain?
- Etc., etc.
The opinions are permanently recorded and there will be no need for all the threads with the same question.
A poster can simply post something similar to:
See this poll for more information.
Here are the results of our latest poll regarding the company who makes the best hydrocodone/APAP combo
Please let us know if having a poll every week or 10 days covering different questions sounds good.
If so, I'm sure one of our mods will be glad to start the ball rolling.
And if you have ideas for other questions/opinions you want, please comment. Thank you.
Yes great idea polls are fun and we can see what Real people who use pain meds and heck just meds think !!
Myself I am tired of reading all caps...So the poll is for 2 days...and if the results show that most people here feel it to be shouting i will start deleting CAPS LOCKED posts...serious topic next time this is a test poll
I don't like reading all caps either. It seems harder to read for some reason.
like each letter is starting a new sentence
You guys crack me up. I think polls are a great idea. However, I don't think it will cut down on the repetative posts much. I think a lot of people come onto this board and make 1 or 2 posts and never come back. They don't bother to search and see if the question has already been answered. Also, some of the topics haven't been brought up for a while so getting newer, updated information is kind of nice. I personally feel weird responding to old topics since the OP's are often long gone too, so I'd probably start a new topic if it had been a while since anyone had responded. Is that the right or wrong thing to do? Anyway, I like polls for the fun aspect of them, but don't know that they will accomplish the goal of having less repetative posts.
please vote in the lower right of the page
I do agree caps are very annoying and I get very tired of seeing them also, but I wanted to throw out there that I do know a couple people, professionally I might add, that type with capslock on for the sole reason that they are visually impaired and otherwise cannot read what they are typing...just a thought.
There are options...I use firefox most of the time and all that you need to enlarge text is go to view/click on zoom/ zoom in...or also hit ctrl and ++..this will increase type size much more then typing in caps..I will post a screen shot as an example.

It makes posts so hard to read, esp when it's all caps with no puncuation...It actually hurts my eyes when it's all caps, and YES it is shouting...The guilty parties know who they are.....But I do Enjoy the polls...It's always interesting to see how a bunch of people vote on different issues, and this is bascially an anonymous site so I would expect the results to be a good cross section of society because pain is not discriminatory. It strikes people of all ages, races, tattoes, no tattotes, gay, straight, short, bald, fat, skinny so on, so forth.... everyone basically at one point or another in their life. And for us chronic pain pts. it's a life altering, dehibilitating thing.......

Using the poll was easy and i liked doing it keep up the polls !
I think the polls should start out every ten days, and see how things go. Then maybe 1 a week and maybe even two a week (or month), depending on the outcome.
Okay, on behalf of a Pharmer.org member, we made a new poll. Here is the link:
http://www.pharmer.org/content/drug-addiction
You can also see it under the "Who's Online" box in the right sidebar.
Please vote. The poll will be up for one week.
And if you personally have any good ideas for a poll, please send your suggestions by private message to Goat, gtrplayer, kirby or TP Admin. Click on any of our user names and then click on 'send this user a message' and type away.
Thanks!
I like the polls and am all in for them. As for the caps, to me that is not as bad to me as some people's spelling, grammar and run on sentences. This site has a spell check and I wish more people would use it. We all make mistakes in our postings from time to time, but there have been a few times I have stopped reading a certain post because of all the misspellings and run ons and lack of punctuation it's unbearable. There I got it off my chest hope no one is offended. Thanks, Greg
We have a working spell check?
I don't see it but, then again, I don't use spell check.
Before we upgraded software at Thanksgiving 2008 we had spell check. But we tried to implement it after the upgrade and it interferred with other functions so it was removed.
Maybe it's been restored and I don't know how to find it? Thanks for any help!
Yep, the spell check is in good working order on this site
speeelcheck .....nah i am not seeing anything? any tips?
try to edit and see if you loose the votes like i did last time...before a bunch of us vote
Aside from the subject line, Ray if you are reading this I hope I am not one of those people who you are referring to that use CAPS lock. Yes, once in awhile I tend to leave it on for a sentence, & if that bothers you or anyone I will gladly stop. It's not that often at all, usually I do it when I am trying to make my point, or to make a point more clear. So on that note, I don't think you are talking about me but if so I do apologize.
The other day I was reading a post & considered replying but you know I could not believe that I simply did not even want to put my "signature" (so to speak), anywhere near such a large volume of incorrect grammar, punctuation & spelling. I'm so not a snob or anything like that, but for some reason that day there were so many senseless spelling errors that I refused to type behind those individuals. Usually I can tolerate it in moderation, & the caps on does not bother me too-TOO bad; sometimes, it does - when it is used for the entire reply.
But, now I am torn between trying to have a genuine compassion for these typists b/c they may have Star-Gartz (like my psychiatrist did; severe macular degenerative disease) or even just really poor eyesight & also the fact of not having had the luxury, yes the luxury of getting an education when they were younger. The word that is starting to get on my nerves is typed as "an" when the poster means to type the word "and". They may just not know better unfortunately.
As far as polls, yes it is a terrific idea! Keep up the good work pharmer.org!
people doing this ....i don't care for it..i type with one hand so you get what i type..sorry
If you use Safari, you have spell check. Take care, htmom
Its late and I am tired... so it bothers people if they capitalize a word in a sentence to express a point? I really wish we had spell check because I change what I say because some of the words I speak with I am not sure of the correct spelling. Rather than look like a fool for mispelling a word I will rather talk like one. Quite the conundrum.
about a few words but a whole post in caps by a regular member i do not care for..we voted on it and the majority felt the same way...so look out
Thanks for the clarification... I dont want an ANGRY goat on my hands
Its true about goats eating anything. I was at this small private zoo/petting zoo and I had a paper bag full of feed. Well I was feeding one goat out of my hand and there was another goat that snuck up behind me and starting eating the paper bag.

my poll topic is what you had in mind?
