had an interesting, painful day (blood in one picture, if you dont like that stuff)
well, was at work, nailing boards with our heavy duty nailgun, when one of the boards I was leaning on snapped and I ended up nailing one to my hand. initial pain wasn't bad, adrenalin I suppose. Got someone to take me to the local clinic (normally I am opposed, since they don't have emergency equiptment) so I get there, some doctor numbs it up and just starts pulling, until I passed out from pain, took an x-ray after and saw that it had wires from the wire feed in it, making it stick in there, but he atleast got the board off my hand. Went to the next town over to the ER, hooked me up to an IV right away and gave me 100mcg fentanyl, doctor there was smarter, dremeled the top off and pulled it out from the bottom. It was horribly painful. Through this whole experience I took some pictures haha, thought I would share.

those were on the way to the doctor, that was alot of pressure pulling my skin down, and really got painful after a few minutes.
This is after the first doctor pulled it, this was all the further he got it, but atleast got the board off. At this time I was in so much pain I was actually in tears, and I don't cry.

I have some other pictures of the x-ray and nail, I will post up when I get home (How sad is it that I have to go back to work now so I don't run up their workmans comp?)
OMG you are going back to work the next day???? I hope they sent you home with some antibiotics...that screams infection to me! Did the ER doctor do it or did a surgeon do it? When I was younger I was visiting my brother in the hospital who had his appendix taken out(he was 16 at the time so he was on the Peds floor) and I saw a child in there that had a pen sticking out of his eye...he must have been about 5 years old...that looked excruciating.
unfortunately it isn't the next day, it is the same day. I came straight from the ER back to work. Just went home to drop my prescriptions off (A very strong anti-biotic and a #30 script for vicodin, thank god, cause this thing is THROBBING now) It wasn't a surgeon who took it out, but luckily for me it was the ONE ER doctor I like..I just wish I wouldn't have let the under prepared doctor make it worse by pulling the steel barbs further into my hand, most painful thing I have ever been through. But when I got to the ER I didn't even have to wait (uncommon for this ER) they sent me right back, got my info, had an IV in me within 10 minutes and fentanyl within 15 minutes after ariving, 50mcg didn't work to well, so he did 50 more and by that time I was so numb I was ready to rip the thing out myself. So he numbed it up good (shots in the palm of the hand with a 3 inch needle are AWFUL btw ;)) but even with it being numb it hurt so bad when he was pulling it out, only took about 30 seconds, but that was enough for me. should be of work in about another hour, will get the x-ray pictures, I can not believe I missed every bone, really lucky. also have my dog obiedience class tonight, that might be kind of rough to, but I spent alot of money and can't afford to miss a class. Glad I have some painkillers to get me through for awhile though.
Ouch
doesn't look bad haha, can't believe it still hurts this much. here is where it is at now, about 6 hours after the removal of the nail.
hopefully these pictures don't post in all weird sizes like the first post.
x-ray..missed all bones, but he said it did some nerve damage and ligament..probably why I cant striaghten out my index finger.

the nails showing the barbs, the board I nailed myself to and the hole. I have the actual nail here to, must have not grabbed a picture, it still has blood and skin on it, so it's kinda gross anyways.

WOW! That is awful...but very impressive.
Nail guns are scary dangerous.
Painful. Glad they got you in and got meds quickly. Good luck. Hope it heals up fast and the pain subsides soon.
Wow. So sorry you had this accident.
It looks horribly painful.
I'm amazed and appreciate your resilience and sense of humor.
Pictures and posting would be the last things on my mind if this happened to me.
Thanks for the post and great pictures.
I hope the wound heals quickly.
Take care of yourself - and be sure to finish your antibiotics.
Ohhhh God that is awful!! Ouch!!
Holy cow! That sure looks horribly painful! I hope you are feeling ok now? Its a good thing though that you went through the "meat" rather than through a bone. That was lucky. I guess since you work around sharp metal objects, that you are up to date on your tetanus injection?
I know, right Kirby? Taking pictures would be the last thing on my mind too. I would just be like "get this freaking thing off of my hand. NOW".
But seriously, thanks for sharing. I'm sorry you are in such pain, but the pics ARE very interesting.

OUCH!!!!
Sorry that happened to you. I hope you feel better.
