The FDA recently approved Cesamet (nabilone) to treat patients with chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.  Cesamet is a treatment option for those patients who do not find relief with standard anti-nausea drugs.

Cesamet is manufactured by Valeant Pharmaceuticals and will be available in the US within several weeks.   Cesamet is currently marketed in Canada.

Per clinical trials Cesamet capsules taken twice daily control severe nausea and vomiting.  The drug is a synthetic cannabinoid (an active ingredient in marijuana) and is a controlled medicine with CII designation.

Pill Identification - Cesamet (United States)

Cesamet capsules (purple and white): 1 mg nabilone capsules will be imprinted with Valeant on the white body and 0247 on the purple cap.

Pill Identification - Cesamet (Canada)

0.5 mg nabilone:  Red and white capsule imprinted ICN 3102

1 mg nabilone:  Blue and white capsule imprinted ICN 3101
