Does anyone else know of any migraine meds, could be old or new it doesn't matter. Cos for like two yrs now I've suffered headaches that I think are due to my Cocktail of medication. I'm not sure?? There mainly stress headaches and temple headaches. There not the blinding come on quick migraine that disables you. I've only had those like 4 times in my whole life. I'm going to talk to my Doctor soon and I'm going to ask him about some advice. Sooo any??
You could most likely be having rebound headaches caused by the opiates. The up down, on off , mixing this and that game is not appriciated so much by your body.
Zoloft 250mg thats alot 9 mg's Invega and 400 mg's 3 times a day of Gabapentin. But also I have to put into account that they are really bad in the morning and when I have a cup of coffee they Go away then reappear around 6ish. So I don't know if there caffiene headaches and withdrawals from caffiene. But I get them alot. And if I don't drink any coffee it's hellish to be honest Cos it's disabling.
I havn't had any opiates and it really just keeps me down in the morning but maybe A CHANGE IN LIFE STYLE WOULD HELP. Thanks...........
Caffine is a biggie!! I can't go without caffine either or I get a headache so I think you answered your own question. Either deal with it and get off caffine all together or make sure you have a little bit before 4 or 5 to keep it from coming back at 6 LOL. I feel it's always better to try and find out what is causing the pain, not look for something to cover it up first. When we have pain our body is telling us something is wrong. If we cover it up before we know whats causing it, it could be bad.
I am on high doses of pain(and other) meds due to multiple forms of arthritis, 3 compression fractures, spinal fusing L4-S1, partially fused sacorilliac joints, DDD, cervical & Lumbar bone spurs, 3 level surgical fusion in my C-spine with the level below the surgery had colapsed due to the weight of the instrumentation and thanks to my husband the level above has a blown disk and is subluxed. I don't want the meds, I need them! I barely function with them, when I go off to control tolerance, I am non-functional. I worry everytime I have a new pain, if that pain is bad enough to show through all of the stuff I'm on, and isn't something thats always been an issue, how bad is it, and what is it???
I guess what I'm trying to say is you are young, you remind me a bit of my brother, he was ADHD, OCD, along with some other psycological problems but was never diagnosed back then "He's a Boy alright" is what they told my Mom. Well, he ended up self medicating, we come from a long line of addicts, and have alot of depression and other mental prob., several suicides, from both sides of the family. Noone would look into what was wrong, they cast him off as another out of control teen, trouble maker.
I found my brother when I was 7 months pregnant with my DD, he had completed rehab and had been sober 6 months. Noone, even in-patient rehab would listen to him fully, they never looked at other emotional/mental stuff. He's just an addict. His note said, I'm not happy using, I'm not happy sober, My mind doesn't work right, won't stay focused unless I take something but I obviously take the wrong things. I'm sorry for all I put you guys through, Thank You for loving me and believing in me but I can't love or believe in myself there is something wrong with me in my head an I can't stand it. Take care of my kids and please don't hate me, I tried, I really did. I Love You, Kevin
He never made it to his 24th birthday. Everyone on this site is trying to help you, but you need to seek proper help for yourself. We are strangers, all over the world on the other end of a computer. We can support you to an extent, give our opinions, ect. But you hold the keys my friend. Mental health has come a long way in the past 15-20 years, take advantage of having a chance to make it. Stop looking for bandaids it's too easy to cover something up. When it's covered up, the infection it's causeing may be so gradual, you won't notice until it's too late.
I'm sorry for such a long post, I usually stay nuetral except for "how can I get" and "I just scored" posts. I have a soft spot for this kind of thing as well as a no tolerance feeling which contradict eachother so I usually just stay out of it and post on other stuff. For some reason it was on my heart to tell you part of my story which I've never shared on here before. I can gaurentee under different circumstances, I too would be an addict instead of just dependant. It is hard, it is tempting, but it's not worth it treat your underlying causes first and you can make it. You'll be in my prayers.
Thank you, A mom, I'm scared now cos I want to live a healthy life. I live by convictions and I'm soooo sorry about your Brother. I will go and get the help. Because this is so touching to me that I need to try to help myself. I did it before without med's and I belive I can be stubbern enough to do it again. Thank you so much for your story.
That story is incredibly sad, but touching. Thanks for sharing.
I'm very sorry about what happened to your brother. My sister was 33 when she commited suicide.
Sonic, sometimes when I abruptly stopped percocet I would get rebound heachaches. That might be the case with you. My doctor told me that men are much more prone to cluster headaches than women. See what your doctor has to say. Take care! Theresa
if its caffiene + pain relief you should try goody's. also there is a perscription drug called fioricet but I believe it may have some kind on minute narcotic in it, however it is made for migraines. I will look into it further for you. I know it worked wonders for my mother
It's amazing what people see happen and don't even question it. My brother went to the pharmacey and in one purchase bought 10 bottles of sleeping pills couple different brands and a bottle of coke. Twenty three years old and the pharm tech didn't even question why so many, didn't even apologize for our loss when we went back with the reciept and the police since there was an investigation. He had an abrasion and goose egg on his forehead so they had to rule out homicide(or maybe look at the corner of the dresser next to where he was laying along with the note on it. too easy there). Yes I remember him, yeah I thought it was odd hoped it wasn't what I thought but guess it was. I can't tell people what they can buy. He was right but it still bothers me cause I think I might of asked for I.D hoping he didn't know any better then called the police to help check up on him. Oh in a perfect world. Take care of yourselves and those you love and never be afraid to offer your hand it's up to others to take it but don't ever be left with what if I had only....
I'm so sorry for your lose A mom. I hope by you posting it on here that someone or many people will reach out for help. You just never know what someone is dealing with. Htmom
Fioricet contains 50mg of butalbital (a barbiturate), 325mg of acetaminophen, and 40mg caffeine. It is indicated for tension headaches and some degree for migranes, though I think drugs like Imitrex and other Triptans or ergot alkaloid preparations are preferred for first line treatment of migranes. Fiorinal is to Fioricet as Percodan is to Percocet, as Fiorinal contains aspirin instead of acetaminophen. For some reason, Fiorinal is a controlled substance, Schedule III, while Fioricet is not controlled. It's not that Fioricet would be very abusable or addictive, but if you need to take it every day then you will eventually experience terrible rebound headaches when you don't take it. In a way this is just like problem with caffeine alone, and the rebound headaches.
Midrin is another drug like Fioricet, though I think it is considered to work better. It contains acetaminophen, dichloralphenazone (a milder form of chloral hydrate), Isometheptene (which is a vasoconstrictor like caffeine). It is a Schedule IV controlled substance. I hope this can be somewhat helpful.
Ask your doctor about triptan inhibitors. There are some rapid-dissolving tablets that you can take at the onset of a migraine and they can really help. Opiates can help a migraine, but they're addictive and whatnot; you don't want to mess with those unless you don't have another option. Triptan inhibitors contraindicate with certain things... off the top of my head, I'm not sure if they're safe to take along with your meds, so discuss it with your doctor. But yes, as others have mentioned, lowering your caffeine intake will help you a great deal as well.
Okie Dokie, Thanks Guy's I don't want anything addictictive so I'll ask him about the others.
Midrin is a good headache medicine and comes in generic. The triptans are excellent, but depending on your insurance or lack thereof, they are expensive. Most times you can only get six or nine per month of the triptans. The Fioricet/fiorinal is also good for tension type headaches, but they do have a tendency to cause rebound headaches and have a small addictive potential.
I work for a neurologist and we see lots of migraine/headache patients. My boss is a migraine sufferer as well. And the med he recommends the most? Excedrin migraine! Lots of people get good relief from it.
We frequently prescribe Elavil every night as a headache preventative or alternately Topamax titration. But the frequent side effect with Elavil is daytime sleepiness and the common side effects with Topamax is numbness and tingling of hands and feet, which eventually goes away and also weight loss.

Ehh, I don't know about Excedrin. A lot of people tend to confuse stress headaches with migraine headaches. Excedrin is fine for a stress headache, but a real migraine... I dunno. Excedrin wouldn't even TOUCH the pain for me if I had a migraine. Nothing over-the-counter ever does. Actually, nothing at ALL ever does, except for the triptan inhibitors, and even they only bring it down to a tolerable level.
Midrin works great for migraines. You have to be care with the dosing tho, as you can take too much. The only thing that ever worked for me for migraines was the Midrin and Stadol NS, and phenergan. I tried all the triptan meds, but the all caused me to have a rapid pounding heartbeat, especially the Imitrex injections. I also tried all the prophalatic meds (depakote, topamax) but still got the headaches. They only seemed to make the headache worse. You have to be really careful with the Stadol (or any narcotic) when it comes to migraines. Stadol is the only narcotic medication that is indicated for migraines. It can cause rebound headaches and is terribly addictive and terribly expensive. My former PM doc would give me 3 bottles a month and it cost nearly 600 dollars, and that was for the generic. There are only 14-15 doses in each bottle so you have to use it sparingly. The thing I did like about the Stadol was that it was the only narcotic that made me sleepy. All the others (oxy, hydro, fent, methadone, codiene, demerol) make me go like the road runner. I don't know why as opiates are generally sedating. I guess it's just me. I think the cause of the headaches was the HIV meds that I was on at the time. I switched to Trizivir and Viread and they went away, and (thank God) i didn't have to take as many pills as Trizivir is an antiviral that combines 3 meds into one pill. So now for HIV I only have to take 3 pills a day. It's wonderful, as before I was taking 12 pills 3 times a day. Not good, and they made me feel terrible. They worked, but the cost (not only the money, 3000$ a month, but the physical and mental cost) was enormous. Thank god for the advances in antiviral/HIV meds and research....>Ray
The BEST and ONLY medication that works for my migraines is called Maxalt. It doesn't prevent migraines, but it does stop them dead in their tracks. The way it works is when you sense that you're starting to get a migraine, you take it and it stops the migraine from coming on. If you're like me, you get warning signs that you're going to get a migraine, like vision issues, feeling naueated, etc. As soon as I start to get any of those symptoms, I take one of my Maxalt pills, even if it may not be a migraine (my doctor said it's fine to take even if it may not have been a migraine as long as I'm not taking it daily). I'd say that the Maxalt works about 95% of the time for me, which is amazing because I've had bad migraines triggered by a coma where my brain swelled so much I wasn't supposed to live when I was 12. The migraines I get are so bad I'd do things (like hurt myself elsewhere) just to try to take my mind off the pain and to release the body's natural pain killers. It didn't work well, let me tell you. NOTHING else has worked for my migraines, and I've tried A LOT of things. Maxalt is a life saver for me. There are times when I take it and because it works quickly and the migraine just goes away completely I'll be like, 'oh wow, I was supposed to have a migraine today and here I am doing yardwork.' The only problem with it is that if you start to get a migraine and you don't have a pill of it around you're SOL. It usually only works if you take it before the migraine gets really bad unfortunately. So, if you don't get any warning signs or symptoms before it comes on, then it may not work for you.
Maxalt is a Triptan migraine abortative, used for when you feel a migraine episode coming on.
Ya I know the warning signs, like numbness in the hands, visuals in the eyes mainly to the side. Then it hit's hard and all I can do is stay in a dark room with no noise and take some OTC pain meds and sleep then it kinda just goes away after awhile. Maybe the next day I will feel a lit'l weak and unmotivated but for the most part I need to change the topic to Cluster, caffinee headaches cos I've only in my life had migraines like that, that I describe about 5 or 6 times so I will try to just cut the coffee out slowly and hopefully get the results I need. Thanks Guys!!
Hey, Kelly- Maxalt is the same kind of med I used to use. I used Zomig, though. A triptan inhibitor, used at the onset of a migraine... I forget, is Maxalt a regular pill, or a dissolving tablet? The Zomig I took were dissolving, so they were very fast-acting. I agree, that type of med works wonders if you take it at the right time. I used to get a tingling, hot feeling in my face and upper chest/neck/shoulders area as a side effect, but it was tolerable- and given the choice between that or suffering for 12+ hours in a dark room with ice on my head, trying not to puke... I'll take the side effects any day! Do you have anything like that with the Maxalt?

What cocktail of medications are u taking sonic? Your mixing could be the culprit of the headaches....
