someone tried to tell me this pill i have is a methadone but ive taken methadone before and i know what it looks like it white oval and has a m with asquare around it on one side on the other side it has the numbers5771 or 5117 ive calledpoison control and they couldnt find it maybe one of you guys could please help me thank you
thank you so much for finding that for me i really appreciate it thank you again
You are welcome!
how come ive never seen it like that before ive always had the ones with 54 142 on them or the ones that say methadone even poison control could not find it
The methadone pill you have is brand new. Poison control probably won't have access to the info until the databases are updated. I think the poison control centers use Micromedex, and that database is probably updated every six months - certainly not daily.
You'll usually find the
most current information on the pill ID boards well before the
'official' databases have the info. That's one reason we are here
- to try and help before the information is commercially published.
Ya candy, Ive had the same problem. Yesterday I got 12 Methadone 10mg's, 8 were 54-142 and 4 with 57-71 that I didnt know. Then I searched the internet to find them and found nothing. Actually I know the reason its hard to find it! If you bought a brand new pill I.D. Book and looked for methadone you will be surprised to find that they don't have one word about it. Thats beacuse noone wants you to know about it unless your alredy a heroin addict! the goverment, methadone clinics, and Methadone addicts want it to be very quite about what they do. The Goverment doesnt want everyone to know that its very easy to get methadone if your 18 or older. The Methadone Clinic doesnt want you to know about how they keep these people high the rest of there life and make good profits. The Methadone addicts dont want you to know beacuse if everyone found out this is the same as heroin and actually did get the users high they might stop giving it out. So you see this is why this drug is hidden. Ive read alot about this i didnt just think it up, Its somthing the underground talks about but only too the inn crowd. I "showed" the odd shaped Square M ones too an Heroin addict and he said ???$* yah thats methadone!
If annyone els know annything about this coverup plz post more.
Hello, I am prescribed methadone and I believe my pharmacist screwed up because the pill does not look like the usual ones I get. I am going out of the country for spring break and I don't want to have a bunk pill. Is the white, rectangular pill with a boxed M on one side and 57/71 really methadone? Could you help me out? I would really really appreciate a reply. Thanks.
Gordon, please read the reply by kirby, as he's already answered your question and provided the manufacturer's website as proof that these are real. Here's the link :

Methadone Hydrochloride 10 mg
There is no conspiracy. The reason that this pill is not in a pill book is because it has only been on the market for about a month or so. The info is readily available from the mfg website posted above. "Pill books" can only help so much, there are so many meds and different pills for each one, it would be impossible to publish a book with every single one. Please read Kirby's post thoroughly.
Like I said, there is no conspiracy.
Methadone is often used as pain reliever for those of us who have chronic pain. I used to use Duragesic 50mcg/hr but because it is so expensive ($250.00/mo) compared with about $70.00/mo for equivelent amount of methodone that Medi-CAL won't cover it, whereas WV MEDICAID did(go figure). ALthough I have to use 5-20mg oxycodone for breeakthrough pain but it worrks, even though I don't like the "sledgehammer effects" that oxycode has, and the upshot of this is that I get be a modertately productive human being. I can give occassional meteorology or biochemistry lectures to 7th to 9th graders whereas those who went to work in foundry after high school have dreams of high school football glory years ago are bedridden or dead. . I haven't risen any great heights as of yet, but I am not dead yet, and maybe I will do something really useful for society even at this late date. This is better that being bed bound and in horrid pain.
A lot of this talk is just underground cow excrement. Lots of legends float around the underground and most of it is prtty much bogus. People's reactions to drugs vary. For most people methadone is not an uinpleasant drug, but very few if any rate it as good as heroin. I have head lots and lots of underground legends and since I have had chronic pain for quite awhile and actute paim due to kidney stones I have had lots of opiates shot right into my veins. Even Diamorph in the UK. Nowhere as good in pain relief and other features as a good dose of fentanyl. My big grumble is that many of us who have legitimate need for these things were prefer it not being messed up becase someone in the underground starts spreading GEMSTONE FILE* conspiracty stories that for some reason some DEA admin believes and decideds he needs a crusade to improve his reputation. Note some DEA admins are as ignornant of pharmacology as your averarge high school student.
So kindly don't spread rumours that are pretty much surely false. Methadone is not heroin, it is is the same chemical class but overrall it behaves differently. If you belief you have good sources to counter this please cite them. I have seen a lot of damage by spreading false rumours of idle street talk. I don't want to start a flame war, but I would like Internet drug and pharamacology information at least strive for accuracy and shy away from sort of underground drug conspiracy stories. Unless I guess some wanted to start a thread that was clearly marked as "Underground Methadome Conspiracy File" .

P.S. Sorry I can't contribute to your conspiracy theory...
A Pharmacist who messes up and gives you the wrong drug, say a vitamin for a scheduke II drug and cause you tto go into major withdrawl and end up in the hospital can be in serious legal trouble. Sunce I get my meds in Quantities of 100 or greater I ask the pharmacst to please leave in the original bottle them came in with the package insertts, Then you can be totally sure. Out here even the bigger chain pharmaceis like Safewaty out a little label on the bottle that says : "THIS MEDICINE IS A WHITE SCORED ROUND SHAPED TABLET IMPRINTED WITH 54 142".
Get to know your phramacist and fidn one you like. If you pharmacis thinks of you as a freind or at least a valuable and trusted customer thern he or she might go that extra 2km or 1+ mile for you, chain pharamcies can be the worst for mistakes. I also found the Walgreens in California the most paranoid chain i have even dealt with. One kindey stone attack convinved me no more dealings with them.
Of course the funniest pharmacy mistake story I hear was this. Nurse with accent calls in what she thinks is a Zantac presecription says 2 something milligrams i-ii BID ...this gets translated/managled to Xanax 2mg #100 i-ii tabs. All goes well and the patioents stomach problems disappear and she's only using half the prescription too, because if I take one in the motning I go right back to sleep. Six Months down the line the error is discoveered as being C-IV the script expired. So the doctor goes "oh well and writes another script" becuase it worked so well. Last I heard tell of that therepeutic relationship she was one of the people for whom "xanax was nor uniquely addictive to..." Will have to throught read tthoguh the literature and see if that even got backed up or was it just it primarily an over-reprteed anecodotes.

I haven't put it to the test, but as far as not finding anything about methadone in a Pill ID book, if your referring to the ones available for 10 bucks at a book store, I believe you won't find anything on schedule II drugs. ...and as it's states on the book itself, "The most up-to-date information about the more than 1,800 most commonly prescribed drugs in the United States." I'm sure Methadone doesn't fall into that category.
if that new 51/17 witha m and a square around it is methadone then why do they call it dolophine is that just a brand name why not call it methadone
It says comparable to, which means Methadone is the generic name and Dolophine is the Brand (or original) name.

my mom was a iv opiod addict for years and would steal to support her 200-300 dollar a day habit then found methadone and she gets twice as buzzed on it one time a day dose than if she got drugs off the street her clinic gives her 140mg a day i don't know what you take but to her it might as well be heroine
I too am a sufferer of severe Chronic LBP, My L4 to the S spine looks like a set of stairs on mri with and without contrast. I heard of people taking methadone for the chronic pain, but here in the North East Panhandle of Florida, it seems to be taboo to even say METHADONE in public, it's like you hear ewwwss and ahhs, they take what? I don't want that clinic in my back yard etc...
And when it come to pain management Dr's. They still have me one hydrocodone / acetamenophen. BUT, I have been on this soo long, my liver enzymes look like I am a 20 year drinker, and I do not drink and am only 34!
I am just basically asking for anyone / everyone's constructive input on pros AND cons of taking the methadone treatment for pain in lieu of the APAP which is truly killing my liver!
I have the option to switch to methadone, the funny thing is to do it, I have to take and pass an N.A. class, which I am fine with, because I don't live to take the meds, I have to take them to move and live.
Surgury is a 50/50 on paralyzing me waist down, so I am facing a real delima, I wish the back injections would help, but I tried them for a year and never had an ounce of benefit.
So I KNOW I am looking at meds for the rest of my life, I just got to find the right one my body can handle.
Thanks,
Walter (catch22)
Actually, I found that methodone and propoxyphene (darvocet / darvon) are as close (in class) than any other drug is to methadone. go figure?
Methadone can be abused just like any other drug, if you take it right it can help you lead a normal life if you an opiate addict. Most people you see that is taking it and they are acting messed up, its because they are mixing it with other drugs or they are abusing it. The drug has saved many peoples lives. Dont judge peoples problems until you experience it yourself...
Son of methadone user
Walter-
I realize it's been a while since you posted your questions, and I do hope that you've found some relief. I would counsel caution with spinal injections. Search the web for "arachnoiditis" for information on a potential complication. (Many people acheive significant relief with injections, with arachnoiditis being an uncommon side effect. But you should be aware of the possibility as it should weight into any decision making regarding injections.)
Unfortunately for me, I took my chances with spinal injections and ended up with arachnoiditis. Unmedicated, the pain is horrific. I had one surgery (partial discectomy L5-S1 and L3-L5 laminectomy) back in '98 that lead to "failed back surgery syndrome" problems for years. After a particulary painful experience on a small airplane flight (I'm 6'7" and the seats were designed for passengers under six feet), I ended up having a series of injections that lead to my developing arachnoiditis.
Having tried many other methods for pain relief, I found a doctor who talked to me about methadone. I was skeptical at first because of the connection between methadone and heroin in my mind. I finally decided that it would be worth trying, because nothing else both helped with my pain and while allowing me to function in the real world. (My job is entirely mental work, so being stoned at work is not an option.)
I'll spare you the rest of the boring detals. Methadone works for me, and does not make me high. The times my dosage was changed to deal with new levels of pain I would go through a few days of sleepiness, but I've never been stoned on methadone. Unlike the standard opiods that I tried, methadone is very effective at relieving my pain and leaves me sober so that I can work.
Methadone can impact liver function. I have my liver tested every few months, and after 2+ years on methadone I've had no negative impact on my liver. Given your current issues, you'll probably want to made sure your doctor does a series of follow-up tests to see if/how the methadone is impacting your liver.
The other important side-effect is that I am chemically dependent on methadone. That's not a problem for me because I'll almost certainly be on methadone for the rest of my life. The drug is extremely closely monitored, so even after 2+ years of clean pill counts I have to wait until two days before I run out to get my next 'script filled. There is no option for receiving more than one month's supply at a time, and every new month brings about a pill count.
The other side effect is constipation. If you're taking opiods then you're aware of this problem. Senekot takes care of that.
I'm currently on 90mg of methadone (30mg 3x/day) and my pain relief is significant. I do have days with breakthrough pain, but on most days my back pain is controlled well enough that I can lead normal life (work, dinners out with my wife, etc.).
My advice would be to talk to your physician about methadone, and to make your decision based on the possible benefits versus the side effects. For me, at least, the benefits far outweigh any side effects. I feel very lucky to have methadone available to me because it's helped me live a normal life.
YOu are absolutley correct, I used to abuse opiates and was on methadone for many years and i led a perfectley normal life. I got up in the morning and went to work just like everyone else, the only difference being i had to stop at the clinic. Then I went about my day doing the same things everyone else does. And like you said, other people on it are acting messed up because they mix it with other drugs... at my clinic it was benzo, xanex and valuim and K-pin. Or they change their coice of drug, they figure the methadone is taking care of the the opiate problem so I'll shoot coke or smoke crack. I hope your son is doing alright.

in my opinion, it depends on the reason you are using methadone, if you get "high" on it or not. if you are using it for chronic pain, and you are truly in pain, then you probably don't get "high". The people who use methadone to come off heroin or coke, probably don't get as high as some, but the people who take pain pills and things to "get a buzz", get a "buzz" off methadone as well. A very good buzz that lasts quite a bit longer than regular pain pills.
Hello everybody,
Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals 10 mg Methadone HCL tablets. I have a disabled friend that has a presriptions for these. She actually gets 600 tablets a month. I'm looking at one right now white square tablet with [M] on one side and 57 / 71 on the other. Post #1 has a link that shows a real good picture of the pill.

X-Factor, welcome to Pharmer, its a good site with good people that usually have good advise or info. This post I think was started back all the way in 2006, so I think these "new" methadone pills are very common now. People take methadone to reduce their craving for heroin or for some people with chronic pain.

And how do you know about the effects of methadone ?, have you ever been prescribed it for longer than 4 months? Firstly it is an opioid and is not like Heroin as such, Secondly you do not get high from taking methadone , if that were the case the clinics might as well dispense pharmaceutical grade dia- acetylmorphine . Methadone is an analgesic opioid that has proven to be very helpful in providing maitenance therapy for people with pre-existing opiate / opioid dependency due to it binding to proteins in the body and hatving a long half life.
There is a big difference between reading about something and experiencing it . Methadone that is given to heroin addicts has 2 purpoes 1. to prevent opiate withdrawl symptoms and 2. To occupy the opiate receptors in the brain and therefore prevent any high from taking any other opiate . How many people that you know on methadone say it gets them high ? And if it is getting them high how can you be sure it is not from taking other substances that potentiate the effects of methadone, like alcohol ( not recommended very dangerous ) benzodiazepines, a bit of weed or whatever. Are you talking from personal experience or is this third / fourth hand knowledge ?
Thank you
Some of the stuff that gets posted on this site is just funny to me. I read some of the most absurd, opinionated, and incorrect things on here. People, please do not post if what you are saying is not a fact. If you cannot back up what you are saying with some kind of proof or good explanation, then maybe you should not post.
kristopherobin1,
You posted about Methadone like it is a bad drug. If it is taken wrong, then yes, it has the potential to be harmful...but, what drug doesn't. You talk about methadone clinics like they are so bad yet, you say that you got 12 Methadone pills the day before...which sounds to me like, you purchased them off of the street. And that makes you better than the people who go to Methadone Clinics for help? I know many peopel who go to the Methadone Clinic everyday and it helps them live a normal life. Not a high life. After abusing opiates for many years, many people need methadone to feel normal. Others need it for chronic pain. And, comparing Methadone to Heroin is completely absurd. Would you rather have someone addicted to opiates going to a clinic daily to receive their government regulated dose...which is guaranteed quality....or would you rather them go to the street and try to score some drugs. This presents the possiblity of someone being robbed or going to jail. Even worse, the person could be trying to score Heroin off the street. The quality of heroin on the street is not regulated and the person has no idea what they are actually putting into their body. Plus, many people are used to low quality heroin and if they were to get something of high quality and do the normal amount that they do, their is a high possibility that they will overdose and possibly even die. So, you tell me, are Methadone Clinics actually that bad?
Oh, and to address your statement about the Government making a lot of money off of Methadone...you are completely wrong. The Methadone Clinic in my town is privately owned and costs $14 a day(which is way cheaper than keeping up an opiate addiction on the street). My guess is that 15-20 employees work at the clinic. So, after they pay bills, medical supplies, rent/mortgage, and pay their employees....they only get to keep a little amount of money for the owner of the Clinic.
Sorry for the rant...I just hate when people post uneducated opinions and think that they know what they are talking about. End rant
Golfer07, you are right about some people making absurd statements... if you read one of the post #21 that person even said that people use methadone to come off of cocaine lol. These people are clearly misguided so I wouldnt even worry about them. If you look when they posted, 2006-07 they are not even worth your time to post about. I doubt they still come to this site. Methadone is very cheap, the little time I was on it during pain management it only cost $10 for a months supply without health insurance.
I can see how it can upset people that talk about stuff they dont know about. I probaly have been guilty of it a few times but I dont represent my opinions or thoughts as facts.

Rectangular white tablet imprinted [M] one side and 5771 on the other side is 10 mg methadone.
