I have some blue round pills with ccss imprinted on them, does anybody know what these are?
thank-you
captain
Your location, please.
I got these from Costa Rica. They said they were Hydrocodone 10/325 mg. Is this correct? Does anyone know?
Very interesting. Thanks for posting, lanell.
I received a message from another poster saying they received the same pill from Costa Rica, and it's supposed to be 7.5 mg hydrocodone and 750 mg acetaminophen. I didn't bother posting the info since the original poster here never replied to Rawoody's question about country of origin.
Is there any way you can take a photo or scan of the pill and upload the image here on Pharmer? And could you please measure the diameter and thickness of the pill? It will really help us. There is a great size difference between 325 mg and 750 mg APAP, so with the diameter we should be able to determine how much APAP is in the pill.
I don't think it's hydrocodone/APAP. I'm not aware of any country that uses that particular combo except the US. Even Canada doesn't have hydrocodone/APAP for pain. I think Canada might market hydrocodone syrup for coughs, but that's it. Most countries use dihydrocodeine or codeine combined with APAP in lieu of hydrocodone. So one of those combos is a more logical possibility.
didnt chemik post a picture of a german hydrocodone?
i will look for it. i am pretty sure that it wasnt with apap though. it was used as a cough suppressant if i remember correctly.
here we go
Generic Name: Hydrocodone
Strength: 10 mg
Manufacturer: Knoll, Germany
Trade Name: Dicodid
Type: Prescribed as cough suppressant in Germany when codeine is too weak, as an Analgesic in other countries
Class: Scheduled
Comment: Knoll Logo imprinted. Dicodid only contain hydrocodone, no other active substances. Doublescored on backside.
i do agree though. it is highly unlikely that your pill is infact hydrocodone since it is primarly manufactured in the u.s.
most of it you see elsewhere comes from the u.s.

The pill I'm talking about looks exactly like the Diazepam - Roche 10 by TeamPharmer listed in the foreign pill picture ID's on this site. The link is:
http://www.pharmer.org/images/foreign?page=6
The ONLY difference is my pill has "ccss" on it. But it's the same color, shape, size, and is also scored like this pill.
I have a pharmacist neighbor look it up and she cannot find that pill anywhere. She doesn't know. This is very strange. ANY CLUE FROM ANYONE?
Hey I have the exact same pills! I have no idea what they are except I'm preatty sure they are NOT hydrocodone 325's like they say there supposed to be. I have looked everywhere possible and have no clue! Will anybody let me know anything that they have on these..
I have no idea what they are except I'm preatty sure they are NOT hydrocodone 325's like they say there supposed to be
I'm sure you are correct. If the CCSS pill is the same size as Valium, I don't think it can contain 325 mg APAP - the CCSS pill is too small. At a minimum 325 mg APAP alone would be about 10 mm in diameter and 3 mm thick.
If LH is correct about the size (and I don't doubt it at all), I have no idea what CCSS could possibly be. Maybe it's a generic Valium that's purported to be a hydrocodone/APAP pill? But I really don't think I've read about that mistake before. Anything is possible but it seems unlikely.
The combo pills are all pretty big from my limited experience of photographing them. Same with plain acetaminophen (APAP), aspirin and ibuprofen, any of which is combined with hydrocodone in the US.
So we are back to the start. The pill is blue, it's relatively small, round and scored. And the posters were told it's a hydrocodone/APAP pill. Seems very doubtful that it is any medicine combined with APAP, but right now I don't have any clues what it could be.
This imprint needs to be added to our 'Most Wanted' Imprints list since we have seen the same imprint several times. Hopefully someone will be able to solve it.
Maybe it is just a generic valuim from another country.
Thank you for your kind reponse, kirby. However, I had some Hydrocodone 10/325 prescribed for me once. They were very small. They only contained 325 APAP and were only about 3/8 inch long and less than 1/4 inch high. They were really small. Obviously, the more APAP you have, the bigger the pill. I was actually thinking that the blue CCSS pills were too big to contain only 325 mg APAP. Hmmmm...the search continues. I WISH someone knew what these darn things are. I see others have the same pill and don't know what they are either. SOMEONE would have to know! Even my pharmacist neighbor didn't know. If she doesn't, who would!?
THANKS ALL!!!
From "A Friend"
Hi LH,
I am confused.
You have the blue tablet imprinted CCSS that is from Costa Rica and is thought to be hydrocodone/APAP.
And you also have a scored white round tablet with no imprint that is also hydrocodone/APAP from Costa Rica per the pic you uploaded???
Round white scored NO imprint!?
These pills came from Costa Rica. The package says (exactly spelled this way): Hidrocodone 10/3,25mg LOTE # 14-24138 They misspelled Hydrocodone and the strength should read 10/325 mg. I don't know the LOTE # thing. These pills have NO imprint.
Am I understanding this correctly that you have two different pills that are supposed to be hydrocodone/APAP? If so, could you please upload an image of the CCSS pill too. And give us the measurements of it also.
Thanks.
I've hunted and hunted and the only CCSS I could find was for :
Caja Costarricenses del Seguro Social
Which loosely translated is :
Costa Ricans Box of Social Insurance
Per http://www.actualidad.co.cr/308-309/46.actualidad.html
Yearly, the medicine sales in Costa Rica surpasses $200 million dollars. The Costa Rican Box of the Social Insurance consumes approximately 38% of these drugs. Stein, Gutis, GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer, are the main manufacturing laboratories. Between Fischel and Farmanova, they control 42% of the distribution. and Of the $200 million yearly in medicines that are sold in Costa Rica, approximately 38% paid to CCSS and 62% go to the private sector. The laboratories with greater participation of market (institutional and prevailed) are: Stein with a 8% of the market, Gutis with 6% and GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer with approximately a 5% each one. |
The pill I'm talking about looks exactly like the Diazepam - Roche 10 by TeamPharmer listed in the foreign pill picture ID's on this site. The link is:
http://www.pharmer.org/images/foreign?page=6<p>
The Roche 2 pill on that page is Rivotril (clonazepam) from the United Kingdom and not Diazepam.
I'm confused!
You are referring to this???
Diazepam - Roche 2
Generic Name: Diazepam
Strength: 2 mg
Manufacturer: Roche, Worldwide (not US)
Trade Name: Valium
Type: Antianxiety
Comment: Scored. Imprint Roche2
I'm pretty sure that's Valium and not Rivotril. Rivotril has a "dot" before the 2 and after the 2 and is quadrisected like this:
Generic Name: Clonazepam
Strength: 2 mg
Manufacturer: Roche, Worldwide
Trade Name: Rivotril (Europe, S America); Iktorivil (Scandinavia)
Type: Anticonvulsant, Antianxiety
Comment: Image courtesy of chemik. Imprint Roche2
I just got some of those pills, also apparently from Costa Rica, though I wasn't expecting them to come from there. Mine were also supposed to be 10/325 hydrocodone. I have a balance beam scale so I decided to weight the whole batch, do some division to get a per pill weight. I got about .733 per pill. of course a tiny amount of that would be hydrocodone even if they contain 10 mg. Depending on how much filler is typically used on these pills this would indicate that they might have as little as 500 mg. acetaminophen, though I was just looking at a PDR that showed some Vicodin tablets having something like 660 mg. Suggesting that unlike what I used to think, one probably can't count on these pills sticking to standard amounts such as 325, 500 or 750 mg. of acetaminophen.
So my best guess is that these have between 500 and 723 mg. of acetaminophen. That's a lot, and a dangerous lie to tell a customer since one gets perhaps double the promised dose of the toxic stuff per pill.
Hi Timothy11,
Thanks for posting.
I'm not familiar with weights. Could you please carefully measure the tablet - diameter and thickness.
Millimeters are preferred, but a careful measurement in inches will do (like 5/8 inch in diameter, 1/4 inch thick).
And a picture of the tablet would be great!
Apparently a lot of posters have received this pill, and we'll hopefully get confirmation some day.
Thanks.
Have you ever received any more information on this pill since you post?
I recently received the exact same product from Costa Rica and doubt that they are for real. I thought I was getting an RX from the US and was lied to.
Thanks much
I can give some measurements. I get .52" in diameter(13.2mm) by a hair over 3/16" thick(4.8mm). The color is light blue, similar to that diazapam. There is one score across the pill on one side an the CCSS on the other side.
If I can figure out how to post a photo I'll try and take a photo with my digital camera.
Tasting a bit of the pill it does seem to be somewhat consistent with a typical APAP/codeine. I'm not 100% sure what hydrocodone is supposed to taste like, but I'm guessing it should be similar to codeine. Kind of bitter. Of course for all I know many medications have a similar flavor.
The question that comes to mind is why would anyone bother to ship a false medication of this type? If the deal is a rip off why mail anything? With the hydrocodone it will be obvious to any user if it fails to have the proper effect.
I think I posted the link in the wrong thread. Here is the link to the other thread:
http://www.pharmer.org/node/6478
Please someone correct me! Let's get the threads together so we can keep the info together and hopefully ID the pill eventually.
Thanks.
Costa Rica Social Security medical system. Don't be so lazy and look these things up for yourself! Hydrocodone? Nope. You got taken!!
Inquire of CCSS and they will explain.
Why not send them back. Ha! Get yer money back? Right. Your payment most likely came directly out of your checking account and not a credit card. Else you could TRY to get your money back. But you would have to "prove" that there is NO hydrocodone in those tablets.
You would also have to prove that you did a LEGAL transaction - which you didn't. Good luck!
Take the pills to a college chem lab. They can find out for you.
I believe these are nothing more than aspirin.
Hi daisygary,
Do you know what the blue CCSS blue is? If so, please let us know.
We are sure it's not hydrocodone/APAP but that's all we know.
Thank you.
Why not try a chem lab in a nearby college. They can break down anything like this.
Taking them there is really a no-brainer. C'mon, people, wake up!
Blue round pills with CCSS marking are 5mm thick x 13.5mm dia. Personal experience leads me to believe these pills are 7.5mg hydrocodone. They appear to have been expropriated from Costa Rican Social Services.
Jacques Woulfe
Jacques Woulfe,
Can you please describe what makes you feel that these tablets are hydrocodone? Personal experience does not properly identify a tablet.
Gtrplayer
The pain blocking effect (narcotic effect) was similar to that obtained from a 7.5mg hydrocodone tablet. I could not differentiate between the two pills.
Jacques Woulfe
So, this is your opinion based on not being able to tell the difference between painkilling effects of each pill?
Out of curiosity, why didn't you have someone run the tablets through a GC/MS tester?
Gtrplayer
Yes. It is just my opinion based on all information available. I don't have access to a Gas Chromatagraph or Mass Spectrometer. I am not supporting this merchant and wouldn't purchase this medication again. I was solicited on my cell phone and was told the supplier was Watson Pharmacuticals but I doubt that is true. I called the clearing house which processed the payment and they offered to refund my money. They are very accessible and said they have had no problems with this merchant.
Jacques Woulfe
Most solicitors are illegal, which is why the board rules state that we do not talk about them by name, and I thank you for that.
We are still trying to find a definitive answer regarding this pill. As of now, we have to assume that we do not have a positive ID on the tablet.
We had a poster come on a couple of months ago, and swore that the pill they had was an "opiate or something else that is prescription strength" based solely on how it made him/her feel. Needless to say, that's not really much a verification.
Thanks for your post though, it was interesting:)

i just got some of those from some online pharmacy, i stopped payment on the check once i heard it would take a month to get them, but they sent them anyway.
so has anyone figured out what they are? i dont want to be the giunea pig. im just going to save them for a rainy day if i ever run out of the real norcos
Can you do what they asked earlier of someone else and upload a pic front and back, and measure the diameter and thickness? It would help alot. Also if you have a campus nearby, take one there and have them figure out the ingredients.
I'm a social worker, not a medical professional. All comments and thoughts are simply my opinion and experience.
i am in costa rica and i promised someone on a similiar thread i would find out what the pill is, (i hope he/she sees this). the ccss is the acronym for the costa rican national health service. i downloaded the picture and had the pill identified by one pharmacist as being a 10mg cod/ 500mg acemt. pill just as many here have guessed. i showed the pic to a second pharmacist and she was not positive but guessed the same. they do not sell the pill with the ccss imprint on them as a rule in the commercial pharmacies here. they are dispensed through the costa rican national health care system.
i stated earlier the cod/ace pills are sold here for about 1 dollar a peice, but i learned today that is incorrect, i just bought 5 brand name pills for just 900 colones which is about $1.80 and they have a locally made pill which costs less .
i am quite sure hydrocodone is neither manufactured here or sold here legally. i would love to be proved wrong however as i have a legitamate perscrption for it and am about to run out.anyone know of a pharmacy here that sells americam meds. please let me know.
i wish i could give you more proof as i know there is alot of mis-imformation on the net, but i am comfortable im right. feel free to pm me if you have any questions about costa rican pharmacies or meds, but please dont ask me to buy anything for you, that wont happen.
ciao, molly
hi molly are you in costa rica still, just wondering ?????

I find most of my pill ids from my dad. He takes a bunch of stuff since he has always had alot of problems. He gets different pills all the time and most each time the marks are different. He keeps a diary with all the pills colors and stuff in it. Kind of neat since it keeps him occupied and happy.
Maybe this isn't a perscription?
