Simvastatin (Zocor) is a

Are you in the United States? If so, this info is pertinent.

If you are not in the US, please disregard. And please give us your location or the location where the pills originated. Thank you.

Simvastatin (Zocor) is a very recent generic for Dr. Reddy - like December 2006.

I can't find this particular imprint (RDY 200), but did find a few images of Dr. Reddy's simvastatin tablets. All are marked with three numbers and no RDY identifier.

Simvastatin comes in about four dosage forms. I'll be right back as soon as I double check all dosages. And all manufacturers.

Don't take this pill yet.

Edited by me:

Okay, I found images of all Dr. Reddy's simvastatin pills at Medscape. Here are the imprints:

5 mg - Yellow shield shaped tablet imprinted 726
10 mg - Beige or pink shield shaped tablet imprinted 735
20 mg - Peach shield shaped tablet imprinted 740
40 mg - Pink shield shaped tablet imprinted 749
80 mg - Pink oblong tablet imprinted 543

There are other manufacturers who make this generic. Here is the info from the FDA:

List of Simvastatin Manufacturers

But only Dr. Reddy would use the RDY imprint. It's possible the company changed from three numbers to RDY XXX in one month's time, but I doubt the company is that efficient.

Or it's possible Medscape is wrong, but I doubt that too.

PLEASE TELL YOUR PHARMACIST YOU WANT TO SEE THE PILLS FROM THE ORIGINAL CONTAINER.

Interesting thing Kirby...

Interesting thing Kirby... the FDA only approved DR Reddy for Simvatatin in Dec 20,2006 and I ran the number through the CDER (dated Jan 8,2007) and those numbers you have from Medscape corresponds exactly to Merck's NDC code. (Merck is 00006-726,-735,-740,-749, and -543). DR Reddy's website hasn't been updated recently to reflect that Simvastatin is something they sell and apparently neither has the FDA's.

Yeah, what Rawoody said

Kirby's descriptions match Merck's Zocor imprints.

I ended up at this site because I got unusual-looking (based on past prescriptions) tablets with a prescription for 40 mg simvastatin, and wanted to confirm their identify. They match the original poster's description--round, pinkish brown, and imprinted RDY on one side and 200 on the other. I guess this may just be Dr. Reddy's look for simvastatin. If that's the case, it's still strange that they didn't go with the usual shield shape.

RDY 200

My database has RDY 199 listed as simvastatin 20 mg made by Dr. Reddy, but it doesn't list RDY 200.

And I see the ones kirby talked about at Medscape.  They are all listed as made by Dr. Reddy.

So Dr. Reddy Labs probably make the 'authorized generics' for Merck with the shield shape and also make their own generics in round shapes.

Dr. Reddy simvastatin

Hey....I just got the Dr. Reddy version of 20mg pills that are round, kinda brown and have RDY on one side and 199 on the other.  I'm not sure what to think cuz my pharmacy didn't tell me of the change.....I just got really different looking pills than I was used to. hmmmm.  Any thoughts on these new versions as good, bad or otherwise?  Haven't started taking them yet and am considering requesting other version.

Dr. Reddy's simvastatin 20 mg

I am highly perturbed.  I will not take a drug made outside the USA from underdeveloped counites.  From what I see on the news these countries are nasty.  This is the first shipment from my AARP mail order.

 You would probably be

You would probably be upset to learn this little tid bit too. The worlds 3rd largest generic manufacturer Mylan Pharmaceuticals gets a lot of the bulk pharmaceutical powders that they turn into tablets from a company they own 71.5% of called Matrix Labratories which is in India. But seeing that the US goverment has good relations with India and there are FDA inspectors on site at all inside and outside the country pharmaceutical plants the quality should be ok, as long as you get them from a reputable source.
