Looks like it may very well

Looks like it may very well be generic Demerol. The generic name of demerol is meperdine (hence the M on your pill) and 50mg is a common strength of that med (hence the 50 on your pill).

Since the med is not from the U.S., it will be really hard to get an accurate i.d. on it, however, I would say that there is a pretty decent chance that it is just what they told you it was. If it is not, then they at least went to some effort to try to make it look legit.

Unfortunately, it will be near impossible to know for sure without expensive lab testing, however, if I had to guess then I would say it is legit.

Phisher, that was my first

Phisher, that was my first thought too. However I remembered that outside the US, mainly Europe the chemical name for generic Demerol is usually refered to as Pethidine instead of Meperidine. It appears that Belize was under brit control until 1981, so one could guess that they would also refer to it as Pethidine in that country. However, there is/was a brand called Mefedina that sounds a little spanish (but could also be Italian...?) and thats another common language in Belize. Hopefully the OP will remember a little more detail or someone will recognise these pills. I always love a mystery.
