I've curiously read the threads on Suboxone (including the Jeff Tuttle Series) and I am interested in what the dosage might be for an average adult and for how long. I think I've read here that they make 8s and 2s, dont know about 4s.'
Is anyone out there using it and if so what is your "prescribed" dosage for it.....What mg, how often per day, for how long...........
I've read and heard that this stuff can truly help with withdrawal pains and RLS, everything, with no euphoric side effects. If this is true it's a product worth learning about. I'd be interested in the stigma's associated with it, like Methadone, what? Thanks to anyone that may have some experience with it that wants to help. Just a little data chip for my brain for future reference.....
Hypothetically speaking, we are discussing the 6 sided orange N8 pill pictured on this site. I saw a picture from an ID by Kirby.

I don't think any question is inappropriate. People don't have to answer if they don't want to. The initial target dosage for withdrawal prevention is 12-16 mg per day usually dosed once a day. There is a ceiling effect, and dosages beyond 16-32 mg per day may have no greater effect than a lower dosage. Since the analgesic effect is shorter than the effect on withdrawal symptoms, it is usually dosed 3-4 times daily for pain in those countries where its use for pain is approved. There is even a sustained release patch for pain management in Aust, NZ, or the UK. I have not had much luck with Suboxone for narcotic experienced patients for pain relief, but it stops withdrawal and craving like a dream for addicts. For pain it may work better for narcotic naive patients.
A really good site that you must register for, but that you can access for free is: http://www1.buprenorphinecme.com/PageReq
I am 27 years old. I have been using this for about a month now and it is fantastic! My doctor perscribed me to take 1/2 tablet once a day to start out with. That was too much for me because I reacted in having too much of a euphoric effect. We then changed it to 1/4 twice a day and that has worked. I take the orange 8mg, the normal dosage for this amount is 1 tablet a day. You place it under your tongue and let it dissolve, it will not work any other way because of how the drug is designed and made. It doesn't taste that bad, a little bitter, but you can drink small sips of your beverage of choice as long as it is not alcohol. It takes about 2 min to dissolve and another 30 min to take affect. The program I am in will take about a year, any shorter time period than that has a high percentage rate of relapse. I have had no withdrawl symptoms and can do my everyday routine with no problems. There is one side-effect to this drug, but will only occur if you don't take it at the right time. If you take it before you start going into withdrawls, it will speed up the process and cause the withdrawl symtoms to be about 20 times worse very quickly. If you take an opiod after taking your suboxone, it will cancel it out and you won't feel the effects of what you took. Let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be glad to help!
I have tried the 8mg ones. I took 4mg in the morning for two days. I have to say i agree with the post above me. It does cause withdrawal symptoms when you go from a normal analgesic to sub. I have to say i am amazed at what it can do. Not for pain as much but for symptoms of withdrawal it was great (even after i stopped talking it i was well for like 36 hours, most def not euphoric though) I felt a more opposite reaction then i do with other opiates. I talked with some other patients and some had similar reactions. In short, I was amazed but don't know if its right for me.
im not a MD just someone who has experienced something, respek
I went into my doctors office this morning after 40 hours of not using opiates (oxy/morphine 400 mg per day) as sick as anyone who has been there can imagine. No sleep, freezing, vomiting/diarreah, dehydrated, etc. 2 hours later, after 12 mg of Suboxone, I can't believe how much better I am. I haven't felt this way in 3 years!! Obviously, I need to be concerned and aware that this IS A SERIOUS DRUG that can also be abused, but if used properly under the direction of a SOLID doctor, this is an amazing drug.
The orange hexangonal tablet contains the above dosages. Buprenophine is a partial antagonist, unlike methadone which is an agonist. Google "buprenophine" for more information. There are restriction to this drug in the U.S., in terms of dosages. Good luck
suboxone will make you feeeeeel better...but it is just like any other opiate---you will have withdrawals so dont think youre getting off easy.
kbm87..........I also take Suboxone and have been taking it since 8/08. I don't think "I am getting off easy." It sure beats having to worry about running out of my meds early, Dr shopping to find more and possibly getting caught and booted from my Dr or PM clinic. I feel better about myself because I now have nothing to hide from my family, no more lies to them or my Dr. I am fully aware that when I quit the Suboxone, there will be w/d's and I am prepared (mentally) for that. Suboxone has helped ALOT of people. Including myself.

the poster was just warning them that suboxone is not so easy to stop also...nothing more then that.
My Dr. did say that withdrawal symptoms would occur when I stopped taking the suboxone (buprenorphine&naloxone). But the part that scared me the most was that the withdrawals from suboxone could also LAST longer than those from the oxycodone I was taking. I'm not at the end of my treatment, though; I just got started. He also says that even though suboxone withdrawals last longer, the symptoms are much milder and easier to tolerate.
I agree, an opioid addict addict will never get off easy with (or without) suboxone.
I WOULD say though, that by getting into suboxone treatment, the patient is getting off easIER!

I've read some previous threads and done some other research that tells me what I want to know here. I have my answers.
I did not look at this question from every angle. I never meant to ask a question that could put anyone on the spot. Genuine curiousity......My apologies, if I should not have asked this question.
