Got a question for the pharmacists

I'm a forensic drug chemist, and I have a real puzzler.

Three unmarked, clear capsules with a cloudy white liquid in them.  The capsules are unususal in that they appear to be glued shut, like some pharmaceutical caps (most of the homemade ones I have come across are not...though this doesn't mean that someone hasn't done it).  The substance inside contains caffeine, a beakdown of sulindac, piperine and ethisterone (only the caffeine can be confirmed at this time).

I have two questions:

1: Is it possible for some pharmaceutical capsules to depigment? (these are kind of old)

2:  Are any of you familiar with a similar concoction, that might point me in the right direction to identify the questionable components?

Thanks.

Okay, three questions...

3:  Have you ever heard of a pharmaceutical capsule containing a liquid?  (It's not like a normal liquicap, and it also might explain the glue).

Isn't piperine an akaloid

Isn't piperine an akaloid from the pepper plant? Why would it be in a pharmaceutical? It is in the capsule so it isn't for flavor. I have never heard of a standard capsule holding a liquid or semi liquid that isn't a special gel capsule.

I was just shooting in the

I was just shooting in the dark, posting here.

I'm 99% sure it's not pharmaceutical, but I have been working on it off and on for two months.

You're right about the piperine.  I'm not absolutely sure that's what it is...that's just the computer's best guess.  There are some ions that don't match, and we dont' exactly keep a piperine standard around to compare to.

The compound of inetrest is the one that is matching up as ehtisterone...again not a perfect match.  It's most proabbly another type of steroid though...I have to figure out if it's a controlled steroid or not.

I haven't been able to come up wiht an extraction that can isiolate it to try to get an IR, so GC/MS is all I have to work with.

Lipo 6

I had these capsules a few months back and also had a hard time determining the contents.  Long story short, take a look at this website: www.nutrex.com/lipo6

If you found some caffeine (amongst several other peaks of mysterious library hits) in your capsules chances are this is what you are dealing with - a diet supplement.

hehe

It even has the pepper extract in it.

I still consider myself fairly inexperienced...how did you make the connection?

I feel like I should bow down before you or something LOL.
