Hi There,
I found some pills that look like MS Contin,30mg.They are the same size, the same purple color and have the number 30 on one side. But,the other side has a V on it,rather than the M or PF that I have seen on other MS Contin. Is this still MS Contin just from a different manufacturer? I'd appreciate any help with this. Thanks!

Hi Kirby...Thanks for trying.Ya know, the more I look at it,I'm wondering if the "V" might actually be an "A." (depending on how you look at it,of course!) I'm just trying to cover all bases here! I have been searching as well and can find nothing with a V. So...maybe an "A" but the horizontal line in the A is only a partial line.I have about 15 of these and they are all the same so I'm certain it is meant to be like that. I do have my own 30mg MS Contin and these other pills are identical in every way but for that "mystery letter!" Thanks again for the time you spent checking this out for me.I do appreciate any and all help. TheForgottenPoet

I believe you!
I
did check for A 30 and different logos that might look like either A or
V. One logo keeps coming to mind, but all the imprints with this
particular A have three numbers. Of course, there could be
something new with only two numbers.
Can you upload an image? Or maybe first check out the logo on Zanaflex at http://www.pharmer.org/node/794 and let us know if your A or V is similar.
Thanks.
TheForgottenPoet,
You are correct - the pill certainly does resemble MS Contin 30 mg. I took the liberty of cropping the 30 mg tablet from Purdue's product photo sheet:
I am not familiar with that logo, so I still can't answer your question
"Is the pill a generic MS Contin?" Hello Kirby...Thanks so much for all the research you have done.I must say,you went "above and beyond" the call of duty already.I also posed this question on a different "pill ID"website,(where I am known,so to speak,as TheUnknownPoet)...anyways,incognito also did alot of research on this pill at that site, but his search was also to no avail. I'm thinking it just may be foreign but I'm not hip on foreign pills! And,if it were simply a generic, you'd think it could be found somewhere...right? I just want to say "Thank You" for all the time you put in to assist and advise all of us on these sites.I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that you are very much appreciated.
Thanks again! TheForgottenPoet![]()
I believe that is Antitrypiline, I'm not sure of the mg. but I was taking both MS Cottin and Antitrypline A few years back and I remember I always had to douple check them because they were so similar.
If you mean Amitriptyline instead of "Antitrypiline" then yes, the pills look somewhat similar.
However, I do not think it is Amitriptyline (Elavil). I am still leaning towards MS-Contin.
This one has been around
awhile on a couple of boards, and the original post above was made
almost a year ago.
Hey did you guys ever find out exactly what this pill is? the purple A/V 30mg one? I was told it's morphine sulfate but it's different from the old ones I had. If you could help me I'd love it!
no we have not ever confirmed this pills identity.
if you could ask whoever you recieved it from if by chance they know what country it came from or who makes this particular pill then that could help us confirm its identity quite a bit.
thanks and stay in touch.

I'm stunned!
Has anyone noticed how the 'A" on the maroon tablet looks like the 'A' in the picture recently contributed by imprintman:
Only look at the 'A'.
Now compare the 'A' on the photo submitted by TheForgottenPoet:
Please click on the thumbnails for larger views.
The 'A' is identical. You'll have to rotate the one of the tabs so it's the same orientation.
If someone is bored tonight (Rawoody??), please feel free to crop and rotate and post the images of the 'A'. They are identical!
Now I'm about 99% sure the A 30 tablet is 30 mg morphine extended release sold in other countries (not US) and is made by Purdue.
In the US we call this an 'authorized generic' - meaning the pill is made by the same company that makes the brand name.
wow!
nice catch kirby.
i believe that you have nailed this one on the head:)

I am always impressed at the things you catch!!! I would have never even thought to put 2&2 together!

Hi TheForgottenPoet,
I've checked every source I have access to, and so far I haven't found anything with a V 30 imprint.
Also checked all manufacturers authorized by the FDA to make both extended and immediate-release morphine. No new companies are listed - looks like Ethex was the last company to get approval for ER morphine.
I'll keep looking, but it might be quite awhile before the databases are updated. Just this morning I read that Ivax is distributing generic OxyContin supplied by Purdue (the patent holder). It's very possible that Purdue is producing a generic MS Contin. And some other company, or even Purdue, is distributing Purdue's generic.
