While I was in China last November, I was afraid I might run out of my prescription Xanax (from U.S.) I was told I might be able to buy xanax over the counter. I went to several different pharmacies in a large busy market place but was told I needed a prescription.
Then a friend of mine said there was another pharmacy I could try after going to about 5 others. When I asked if I could purchase a few tablets OTC, the pharmacist said I could. I paid probably the equivilant of $125.00 U.S. dollars for 30 0.5 mg. tablets. A worker went into the back and the tablets were put in a small plastic zip-lock type bag and marked Alprazolam 0.5 mg.
Initially, I thought they were peach colored. But when later when I took a closer look at them, I noticed they were a whitish - to pale pink color, scored and no markings or imprints at all. No identification. I never took them, but now find myself out of my xanax and need to take one, but am afraid these pills might be something dangerous. Has anyone every bought xanax from a Chinese pharmacy in China?

Funny, but I tried tasting one a little while ago, and said to my husband.. this doesn't taste ANYTHING like what I know xanax tastes like, and I often chew mine. This was different. So now, I'm not sure what to think, except that I'm going to have to tough these next few days out till I can get my refill, and throw these down the toilet.

If it wasnt bitter, I highly doubt it is alprazolam. The one time I chewed Xanax it was a 0.25 and it was still disgusting.
Sounds like they sold some random pills.

Okay, I went back and tried the "taste test" again. The initial taste and texture was sort of different, but the second time I tried it, the familiar bitter after taste of alprazolam was there. Except these pills are much more bitter, and the after taste lasts a little longer. I'm going to assume they probably are alprazolam, and take my 0.5 3 times a day until I can get my refill. So far, I've taken 2 and haven't died yet. Here's hoping there are no weird ingredients that can hurt me. It's a little scary taking Xanax bought in China. I was leary of eating the food there..nevertheless did, and never once got sick. Wish me luck.

You said you have taken a few of these pills, so were they alprazolam ? I mean did you get the same feeling, satisfaction, result from taking them as you do taking your regular rx Xanax?
Please let us know and try to submit a picture & disc if you can! I would love to add this to my personal pill dictionary and im sure the site would find it handy to have a picture also.Thank you

for example, the Trika-1 from Unichem India taste sweet when touched by the tongue. when taken into the mouth you would feel that the sweet "layer" will dissolve, then a smaller and harder piece is left which has the typical alp taste when the sugar is gone.
BTW: is that a typo, 125,- US$ for 30 x 0.5 mg ?
I am not condoning that you do this, but I am pretty sure alpraz could be identified by taste to a fairly certain degree, by merely touching the pill to the tip of the tongue. If you have taken alprazolam for a while, I am sure you know how horribly bitter the taste is. It is very unique, and even the other common "zolam", Halcion, does not taste like Xanax. I have taken alot of different pills over the years, and nothing compares. I chewed a Xanax 1 time when I was having a panic attack, and that 1 instance was enough to burn that foul taste into my mind.
Chances are it would not be anything harmful if it is not xanax, let alone something so powerful that it would harm you just from a taste, but you never know.
Again, I am not condoning tasting an unidentified pill. This is merely a theoretical thought about ways to ID a suspected alpraz, and alprazolam only tablet.
