My grandmother passed away several months ago and while sorting through her things, I found an unmarked pill bottle with four capsules in it. Half of the capsule is a peachy-orange, the other half is gray. The printed code on each capsule-half is SKF 467 (the 467 is right beneath the SKF). I have no clue as to how old these capsules are - they could be 5 years old or they could be 20 years old. Any ideas as to what these are? Thanks for your help!
the advice you were given. Unless, of course, you want to make a donation to a pharmaceutical museum.
SKF imprint should have ceased to exist around the late 60's, since co. changed it's name around that time....someone with more expertise will chime in-
I disagree. Not with your motives, but with the result
A question was asked about an imprint - this site is foremost an imprint and identification resource. I don't think we should start picking and choosing who we give answers to if the answer is known.
You may delete this ID if you wish, but it will be against what I think this site should be.
from Logo Index 2002:
SKF 467, orange and gray capsule, propoxyphene 65mg, Aspirin 227mg, phenacetin 162mg, caffeine 32,4mg
if i could have found it i would have posted it...my post was more for harm reduction. You should know by my many ids over the years i am not anti id, but i just had to say it because when i was younger i was much like the op..curious..i did not use the net but PDRs..thanks for the id i knew one of you guys could dig it out..so this was still made in 2002?
Much respect, no harm.
That ID index is what I use for very old imprints. It just happens to be a 2002 edition - no info on when the product was discontinued.
Thanks Goat.
is either dead, void, an can be extremely harmful, any new medicine shelflife is usually a year, what you found should be flushed, no an s if s or buts.
Woodstock
maybe i was wrong thinking that this was a young lady who had "found" some old meds "hoping" for something "good" to be honest this is the first thought i had...but still i tried to id it for them...no matter what the post is, presented like it was i feel the obligation to say something..but i am totally pro id no matter what within reason.
SKF was still in use in 1993 when Smith Kline was Smith Kline Beechman. 1993 is my oldest PDR is why I mention is all. This particular capsule/medication was however not in the PDR. just the use of SKF.
was my last one. i then was married and a good boy since.
Hello all! Thanks for the info. Please please please rest assured that I had no plans at all to "sample" these meds.
I was just merely curious, that's all. :-) I probably should have mentioned that in my original post. Since my grandmother passed away, I have found many pill bottles in her medicine cabinet, but they were labeled -- Synthroid, Lipitor, furosemide and the like. These particular capsules just piqued my curiosity simply because they were in an unlabeled bottle which I found in a little round wooden decorative box with various other odds and ends. I plan to destroy them now that I've had some input as to their ID and age range.
Again, thanks everyone! I look forward to becoming a contributing member to this site over time and providing help when I can.
I took note of the propoxyphene mentioned above. She probably had these prescribed to her years ago when she fell in the driveway and ended up having to have a shoulder replacement. Or....it could have been after her bunion surgery (which resulted in some painful complications) which took place even before that.
thats all they gave me after my first motorcycle crash that fractured 4 vertebrae and smashed another..well that's what i got after the hospital
darvocet n100
I had Darvocet-N 100 (propoxyphene) prescribed after I had an inner ear infection, got dizzy, and fell down the stairs......from the top step down ALL 13 stairs, all the way to the bottom. I ended up with a very painful back which fortunately eventually cleared up nicely, as well as a concussion after conking my head on the parquet flooring at the bottom. I'll have to say that I didn't note any pain relief with it at all, and that's really saying sumpthin considering I didn't have a "tolerance" issue going on given that I had never been on any sort of pain meds before that time, plus I'm a petite person.
I guess I'm taking this a bit off topic beyond the pill ID question I originally had. Sorry about that. I'm known to be rambly at times.
I will hush now. :P
Oh, and the referral to me further up as a "young lady" pleased me to no end. I'm 40, very soon to be 41, so feel free to to use the word "young" ALL you want!

of them, smith kline and french was sold to glaxo long ago..how long? not sure..it does not really matter what these pills are.....does it? be safe/take care..goat
