My boyfriend was over my house the other night and I was laying on the couch with him and felt a bag in his pocket. I asked what it was and started to pull it out and he panicked and said it was nothing and jumped up and said he had to go to the bathroom. When he came back I pulled the bag out and this time it was empty. I went into the bathroom about 10 minutes later and found a capsel floating in teh toilet. It was clear and had a grainy brown inside. I approached him afterward and once again, he said it was nothing until I insisted that he tell me what it was. He finally said it was a weight loss pill and I asked him why he lied about it earlier. He just said he didnt want to say anything since my mom was on the other side of the room. I just dont understand 1.) why he would lie about it and 2.) he's been being urged to GAIN weight for football, so why would he take a pill to lose? Im worried, any clues as to what this could be? Thanks so much for your time.

Weight Loss Pill

Hi Rachelle,

I'm glad you joined us, and I hope we can help you. But we need a little more information.

First of all, US prescription medications by law have to have a unique imprint - some kind of identifier. And the same applies to over-the-counter medications sold in the US (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc).

No such laws apply to supplements like calcium, vitamins, weight-loss, herbal or other types of OTC medications.

I can't tell you what your boyfriend's capsule contains because I need the imprint. If there is no imprint, it's an OTC supplement or a foreign drug (both impossible to identify without lab testing).

I don't know why your boyfriend would lie about the pill unless he is afraid of your mother overhearing the conversation as you stated. Moms are critical.

Another very good possibility is like you mentioned in your second point. He might be embarrassed that he needs to gain weight. It's hard for a male to admit that he must gain weight. It's much easier to say "I have to lose weight." It's a macho thing.

We want to help. If you can find an imprint, we can find out what the pill is.
