Hi. I'm 17 and have recently been diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder and Depression. Just yesterday I was prescribed Zoloft and Inderal LA. I was just wondering (if anyone here is even on it) how long the effects of Inderal LA last. I was invited to a girl's house last night and on my first night taking it...I was able to make it through. I know if I hadn't of taken the Inderal LA, I would of just avoided going at all. I forced myself to go and by the time I got there I think the drug had kicked in. I didn't tremble once, I wasn't afraid to talk to anyone there, and my breathing was normal. Either it was all in my head or Inderal actually works. I just wonder how long the effects ( I don't know if I should be saying Effects or Affects. I have never known that.) last because I liked what it did. I'm taking that the "LA" stands for Long Acting, so hopefully it lasts for all day. Also, I have noticed that I am having neck muscle spasms and some insomnia already. I don't know if it's the Zoloft or Inderal LA causing those. I have read that Inderal LA can cause cardiac arrest, weight gain, and various other negative side effects. Does this happen to everyone that takes it? Please help me out here.

I said I thought I felt the effects of Inderal LA the first day I took it. My Dr. told me that the Zoloft would probably take about 3-4 weeks to actually kick in. But the Zoloft I have says its from "Roe". I don't know if this will help any with my Inderal questions, but just so you know I am taking the 60 MG capsuls. I guess my main questions was: Does the "Long Acting" in Inderal LA really mean it will last all day? I would prefer it if it did so. Thanks.

Inderal LA can generally be dosed once daily for 24 hour control of blood pressure. Since it is not approved for anxiety, there is inadequate data to confirm that the anti-anxiety effect lasts all day. Sleepiness, slow heart rate, aggravation of asthma are common side effects. It would not be unusual to feel the anti-anxiety effects of inderal right away, less rapid heart rate, sweating, flushing, anxiety induced increase in blood pressure, etc.

Thanks for the help. I have noticed, however, that either the Inderal or Zoloft has kept me awake a lot latly. Is there some sort of OTC sleep med I could take to help me out or should I just go to the doctor again and let him know?

Probably the Zoloft. Most of the time this type of side effect will get better in a week or two. It is probably safe to take an OTC sleep aid like diphenhydramine until you can get in touch with your doctor. Hopefully the insomnia will be improved by then.
ive been rx'd zoloft and personally i hate it. it made me feel blank and very edgy. i also couldent sleep on it. you said you felt effects the first day u took it. it usually takes this medicine a week or more for full effects. good luck
