Generic vs. BrandI was wondering what the general consensus is about generic medication vs. brand medication when filling your prescription. Is it a matter of cost, or do you prefer to have your prescription filled with the brand instead of the generic because of its effectiveness when treating symptoms? I prefer the brand medication over generic. I have my Oxyxontin prescription filled with the Purdue brand every month, (the doc writes it DAW upon request), even before they started discontinuing some generics. I was having it filled with the generic Teva in the past and based on suggestions and word of mouth on this board went with the brand and have been quite pleased ever since. I was also wondering about the brand Percocet. I am also prescribed #60 Percocet 5/325 but have that prescription filled with the generic brand. Is the brand Percocet better than the generic by Mallinckrodt? I might have that filled with the brand as well. For me, the brand medication only costs me $35 for the #90 Oxycontin 20mg. It is quite affordable. The generic would cost me $5, but the relief from the Purdue is superior to the Teva brand I was receiving. I am hoping the Percocet brand costs the same, or even less, and any input about the brand Percocet would be appreciated. So thanks, for me it is all about the brand - what about you? Merry Christmas! ( categories: Discussion of Prescription and OTC Meds )

I also am on Oxtcontin. The 40 mg. for 90 cost me $7.00 The only generic left is TEVA and that manufacturer from what I have read is to stop production the end of December 2007. I imagaine they will have enough for maybe 90 days then I have to pay I think $150.00 for the Purdue's I also have the breakthrough oxycodones but that patent expired so there are at least 3 generics, I don't have to worry about them.I would hope Purdue will make some type of arrangement with a manufacturer to produce generics, maybe Purdue themselves will make their own generics I will find out soon enough when I look into my wallet. hello and merry christmas.if
hello and merry christmas. if i were you, i would ask your pharmacists if they may be able to order order endocet for you in place of the mallinckrodt. they may or may not honor this request depending on a variety of factors. if you are using a large chain pharm then they will likely not honor it, however if you use the mom and pops variety then the probably will. brand name percocet is made by endo pharms. endo pharms also make their own generic called endocet. it is the exact same pill in every regard except for the imprint. and yes, i personally prefer the endocet or brand percocet to the mallincrodt. all thoughts and opinions expressed are those of my own and should not be mistaken for medical advice. i am not a doctor nor a pharmacist. all medical questions should be answered by a licensed pharmacist, doctor, or primary care manager. Happy X-mas to all, I agree
Happy X-mas to all, I agree with phisher on this one, Endo brand percocet or endocet is a far superior product. If the big chains don't want your money give it to mom and pop(where it should go in the first place) they are usually more than oblidged to order medications. As far as Brand VS. Generic in general, I always try to get brand and they always seem to be superior meds than the generic. Check with a licensed MD before you take any suggestions! |
