The Health on the Net Foundation, a non-profit organization, is dedicated "... to guide the growing community of healthcare consumers and providers on the World Wide Web to sound, reliable medical information and expertise. In this way, HON seeks to contribute to better, more accessible and cost-effective health care."

The Health on the Net Foundation's Code of Conduct sets certain standards for webmasters of health-related websites to follow. Websites that receive HONcode accreditation must adhere to all eight principles of the HON Code of Conduct to receive and retain eligibility.
