I have a question about the difference between 350mg Soma and 10/500 or 10/650 Hydrocodone addiction / dependency. I use both of these drugs and have noticed that if I don't take my meds first thing in the morning I get very nauseated and get diarrhea. Can Soma cause this or is it the Hydro? Or both? Also, can a person experience withdrawal symptoms from Soma? If so what are they?

Is Soma a more addictive drug than Hydrocodone? One of my Doctors seems to think it is but I have a hard time accepting that.

2 cents

i would say they are both pretty addictive. ive heard withdrawl symptoms from soma are flu like, hydrocodone withdrawl can also cause nausea as well. its defently a combo of the both

Soma comment

I've been Rx'd Soma for over 4 years now, (1 tab QID), for severe muscle spasms. Just a comment that my Dr made to me about NOT taking more than prescribed. I did have a problem about 2 years ago with taking more than I was supposed to. I was honest with my Dr and told him that whenever I did take more than I was supposed to, I could barely control my walking or balance, etc. It was then that he told me that in the medical profession, they have a nickname for it. They call it "Soma Coma". It is VERY dangerous to abuse this drug. When I was abusing Soma, I would 'pass out' and had no recall of what happened. So since then, I've been taking it exactly as prescribed. It was a wake-up call that probably saved my life! Just thought I would add my 2 cents worth to hopefully save someone from OD'ing on this drug. It works wonders when taken as prescribed, but just DON'T overdo it! Always follow your Doctors orders! I had a friend who was given

I had a friend who was given soma. She used to tell me about how she could not function or even get out of bed in the morning until she had her pills. She said her pills and water were on her night stand and as soon as she woke up she had to take it and lay there until it kicked in before getting up. My hydrocodone does not have that effect on me so my guess would be it is the soma, and maybe the hydro just makes it worse.

Certified Medication Tech

I work with a pharmacy and a nursing home here in missouri.  I've also been in the past consumed by chemical abuse.  One thing that I do know about Hyrdocodone is it causes major constipation.  No doubt about it from work, and personal use.  Now thats not to say that there are no withdrawls from it.  I know that during my abuse of Hydrocodone, that when I was not taking them.  My pain threshold was horrible.  Now I was never taking these because I was accually in pain.  But when I had not taken them, I was hurting pretty bad because my body was not attempting to fight off any discomfort.  As for Soma though, it does cause flu like symptoms.  Ranging from dizzyness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and upset stomache..  Also yet again more pain, and in ability to sleep!  Thats all I got for ya hope it helps!

soma comment

I believe soma helps me with fibromyalgia and stiffness in the neck

I recently tried to fill my prescription and they sold out to some other company leaving me to suffer the pain. It does though make a difference for pain level if I don 't take it! If it helps I don't know why discontinue.

Soma discontinued?

Hi bonilla413. I'm trying to understand your post. You said that the pharmacy has discontinued Soma by being sold out to a different company. I've been on Soma for 4 or 5 years now, and never had a problem getting them. Are you saying they are completely discontinued? There are a lot of different pharmaceutical companies that make Soma. As for myself, I use the same pharmacy, (due to my contract with my PM doctor), and some times I get a different generic brand, but NEVER had a problem with getting them filled. Have you tried going to a different pharmacy? Surely someone has to have them in stock. I wish you the best and hope you can find a place that carries them. AIP

Soma is not discontinued

Soma is still going strong. I just recieved an order for 120 Watson (DAN 5133) from my online NROP RX today. They have added a 250mg pill and my sisters Doc told her the plan was to phase out the 350mg because the 250mg is supposed to be just as good. I have not tried a 250mg but I hope they do not mess with the 350mg because they are the only muscle relaxer that I have gotten any relief from.

 Im not sure if your

Im not sure if your sisters doctor is correct or not. He/she may just be speculating. But he/she is right, according to the clinical trials of Soma 250mg there was barely any difference in amount of pain relief and Im pretty sure the amount of side effects was only a little bit lower with the 250mg.

I'm with you Bad2WD

I'm with you Bad2WD. I hope they don't phase out the 350mg's. I have never heard of the 250's till I read this post. That's close to a 30% decrease in the medication! And as you said, Soma is the only muscle relaxer that helps me also. I've tried them all - including Valium 10mg. But they are no way near the relief I get from the Soma's. How could a 30% decrease be just as good? It just doesn't make any sense. I've gotten the "Dan's before, but lately my pharmacy is giving me the Qualitest 2410's, (the one with the funny looking "V"). And I can say from my own experience, they both work equally as well. Soma addiction / withdrawl symptoms

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to carisoprodol or meprobamate (Equanil, Miltown), or if you have porphyria.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:

  • epilepsy or other seizure disorder;

  • liver disease; or

  • kidney disease.

If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take carisoprodol.

This medication may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Carisoprodol should never be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. You may have withdrawal symptoms when you stop using carisoprodol after using it over a long period of time. Withdrawal symptoms include stomach pain, sleep problems, headache, nausea, and seizure (convulsions). Do not stop using this medication suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely. This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether carisoprodol passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Do not give this medication to a child younger than 12 years old..

soma/vicodin combo

I've been on soma 350's and vicodin 7.5/750 for about 4 years now. my doc has told me shooot, a million times now that when taking these 2 drugs together is like takin stright morphine...

i too am at a point where I NEED to take them, first thing in the morn. I dont.... i wait until I seriously have too, but im not well until then.. i shake, have bad tummy troubles, pain threshold is wide open....... i try hard to get up out of bed and go on with my day before i take them.... i can usually get thru a few hours, but then i cant take it anymore and take them....

i do know that when the time comes, i will need help coming off of them.. i wont be able to go it alone... no way.... i've run out before i should have, and those few days are horrible.... i dont allow that to happen anymore but when it has, its been horrible... cant get out of bed or off the couch... much like a bad flu.. but 100% worse as the pain threshold is wide open and everything just hurts horrible....

Sounds like opiate withdrawal

What you describe sounds more like opiate withdrawal symptoms, however I know that Carisoprodol has some withdrawal symptoms also.  I doubt they are as profound as the ones you are feeling.  Meprobamate is what Soma™ turns into when you take it.  Look it up and see what you find out about it.  I believe it used to be in a drug they called "Black Mollies"  I think Soma 250 is a new way to market an old drug, Big Pharma needs more money...

incorrect

black mollies was slang for Amphetamines.

somas vs hydros

I just got finished coming off of OC. I took massive amounts of hydros when I couldn't find my preferential drug.  I'd say the diarhea is from the hydros.  Coming off any opiates is like having the worst flu ever...and it's worse depending on what you were taking & how long..you'll feel like you are dying...but you won't, you'll just wish you were...just keep going!  It gets better after about 2 weeks.  Coming off the somas (which are muscle relaxers) didn't bother me at all.  Coming off benzos without dr supervision can be lethal.  And I do feel better now....so keep trying. And if you don't make it on the first try...try again.  It will eventually stick.

I don't understand

what you are saying.  What do you mean they sold out to another company and left you to suffer?  That should not have impacted you if you have a valid prescription.  Confused.

So true, Im sure you all

So true, Im sure you all have read my recent posts but Ill say it again.  I just recently went from about 30 to 60 mg of oxy a day to about 5-10 mg a day about 12 days ago.  I went through a flu like symptoms thing that made me really achy and weak.  It lasted for about 10 days and now I feel perfect. I still take about 10 mg a day but My flu is over now.  If you can get through about 10 days then you have made it through the worst of it.

Soma Addiction/Withdrawl Symptoms

In its generic form, the muscle relaxant Soma is called "carisoprodol." It has strong painkilling properties, and many people become addicted to it after having received a legal prescription from a physician to treat muscle pain. The risk of overdose is high, as people who develop an addiction to Soma must take increasing quantities of the drug to achieve the same effects.Know that the post-acute withdrawal symptoms of Soma include craving the drug, heightened sensitivity to stress, memory difficulties, lack of emotion and problems with ptysical co-ordination.
