Anyone know how to report a doctor?1

I just had a demoralizing thing happen to me when I was at a doctors office recently. I was waiting in the waiting room for a long time then finally I was called in and without hesitation the doctor started berating me about "oh this isn't a drug factory" or "I dont precribe to people I dont know and trust". Now, all I had done was show him my records and was talking to him about my condition. He became extremely ANGRY when I started to ask him questions about his education and what not. I was only asking because I want to know his qualifications BEFORE he sticks a needle in my back to do an epidural. Just the way he treated me, I want people to know what horrible treatment they get when seeing him and how unprofessional he acts. Is there a way to do this?

i do feel bad for you and

i do feel bad for you and the way you were treated. unfortunately there is no law or recourse for people whom act like jerks.

probably the best thing that you could do in a situation like this is to not support the doctor with your hard earned money or your insurance.

you could also voice your concerns of his lack of compassion to friends and family and hopefully word will get out that he is treating his patients like this.

State Board

You could contact the State Board of Medicine, but I dont know if you are going to have much recourse. However if you feel mistreated then perhaps making a mention to the board would help you to feel better about the situation. Although, the above poster is correct, there is no law against a doctor being an jerk...

Thanks

I figured there wasn't a legal way to do it but what you said seems good. Seriously it was horrible. The reason why it shocked me was because I had an impression that pain mgmt doctors are compassionate and understanding. But this guy seriously wasn't. Thanks for your input.

You can always complain to

You can always complain to the state medical board.  However, as Phisher said, there is no law against being rude or being a jerk.  Is it possible you are being overly defensive?  It is not abnormal to describe office policies and practices to new patients especially when they are seeking treatment for pain.  "This is not a pill factory and I don't prescribe for patients I don't know or don't trust" is a reasonable warning.  Many people come into the office, especially the pain management doctor's office, expecting to be able to get a script for a narcotic.  Usually the doctor evaluates you before doing an epidural, reviews your records, does a history, does a physical, discusses treatment options and then scedules a separate appointment to do the proceedure.  Did you look up the doctors credentials on line before going to see him?  Were you referred by your primary care or another doctor you trusted?  What did they say about him.  By all means tell your primary care doctor about his behavior if your PCP recommended him.  It may influence his referral practice in the future.

Don't tell me you have never lost your patience with a client at work or a clerk in the store.  Why should a doctor be expected to have a saintly demeanor all the time,  after all we are not God, as people so frequently like to tell us :)

Yeah I did everything the right way

Then now I will most certainly write around about him and what he did. I understand that there are certain clients and people that you cant stand but I meen come on. I had records, I was friendly, I called the insurance for him and everything else. I practically did his work for him except be a jerk back. And I am so angry that I didn't be a jerk back. Honestly, I just felt taken advantage of and BERATED. And I was a punching bag for him to get out how frustrated he was against drug "users" I am normally a calm guy and very respectful but he just crossed the line. But either way I just found a doctor who looks promising. We will see and I WILL keep everyone posted. And I will research them from now on.

Dr Lois brings up an

Dr Lois brings up an interesting point regarding this pain management Dr's now somewhat infamous statement, "This is not a pill factory and I don't prescribe for patients I don't know or don't trust". it is hard for us just reading it to know exactly how the Dr said it. If someone says this statement in hostile or accusing manner then yes, it is probably out of line, however if they said it in a informative to the point, simply "laying down the law" manner then it is probably acceptable. After all, some pain management practices don't prescribe narcotics to anyone (no matter how well they know them). Most Dr's will want to better know a patient before starting to prescribe narcotics on a long term basis (especially a pain management Dr).

I guess the bottom line (at least IMO) is that you being the patient, you need to feel comfortable with who will be treating you for your conditions. That said, if you dont like the guy and think that he has nothing to offer in regards to your well-being, then you should find another doctor.

I hope that you are able to find someone who can offer the care and help that you need.

Well yes

yes definatly but he said it in a negative way. Like I said, I had records and was completely respectful and honest. I'm sorry it's hard to type it the way it sounded but yes it was very negative. Simply stating his position (obviously) wasnt so much of a problem for me but then when he started becoming EXTREMELY indignant when I was asking him about his education, that in itself would show you guys what I went through. It was enough for me!! Doctors like this NEED correct training if you ask me. Like reading this website and Pain Networks etc.. They have to hear both sides and hear other doctors who have heard both sides and know the facts like on here.
