My Drs Office StaffMy primary care dr is maintaining my pain management meds norco 10/325s. and is understanding and compassionate about my pain. I am currently am doing therepy for sciatia and what ever is causing my knife in the back, extreme pressure feeling between my shoulder blades. His nurse and helper + receptionist. have something against me. I dread the days it is time for a refill and I have to call them. They always make me go 2-3 days without before they call it in!! I never call early for my refill! My last office visit was 3 weeks ago, I go in get examined, doc says I will get your script so you can go back to work. Then in comes the nurse acts like he is gonna give me my script then yanks it away and says before I give you this I need a urine sample, and i need to take blood. (and he snickers)...ok! ...I wait 15 more minutes then he comes back in with a mad look on his face and gives me my script... I dont understand this treatment I am getting....would you bring these issues up to the dr if it were you? ps this is a small drs. office and I am afraid they all might be family! Kinda Weird
Did you test postive for something else? Does he thing you're faking? I know that in my doctors office there is a sign on the wall that says: "If you're prescribed narcotics from this office you will be subject to random drug screening at no cost to you".....I think it's a fair policy, but I don't think the treatement that you receieve is appropriate. I know that in my psychiatrists office any medication refill that you call in will take 3 days to fill/answer. I don't know why, that's just there policy I guess.... I would consider looking for another doc....I know how you feel....I was dumped by my family doc since in was born when he found out I was HIV pos...all the sudden I became a narcotic/benzo seeker.....imagine that?......anyway best of luck..... Ray Remember: Just do it.. EVERY PILL EVERY DAY My problem is the exact
My problem is the exact opposite. I do not deal with the receptionists, I deal only with the doctor's nurse or the doctor herself. I have been seeing my doctor for about 18 yrs. and I just got tired of dealing with the receptionists who come and go and have to start again with things I have done a dozen times. I brought this up with my doctor and she told me to deal only with her or her nurse. Honestly they feel like family to me. I found out over the years that some people bring their outside problems to work with them and it may have not a thing to do with you, but I agree that the doctor needs to be noticied good luck I don't deal with the office
I don't deal with the office staff either, Thank god the clinic i go to has a PA dedicated to each doctor, so that minimizes the people you have to go through for prescriptions and stuff....I would def. say something to the doc about the demeanor of his staff towards you....That's just not nice... Ray Remember: Just do it.. EVERY PILL EVERY DAY drs office staff
JCC you arent in Maine are you?? Because I went thru that EXACT situation to the word. As i was reading your post, i couldnt believe it and i swore u were going to the same place i was. the only difference is my doc was giving me roxi 15mgs, 120/month. But everything else that you said was exactly the same! I wanted to switch docs so bad, but my doc was so good to me, and listened to me, he was a little younger that helped a little I think, but the women than worked in the office...ugh i cant even say what i want to on here, im sure you get the jist of it. But I never really brought it up to him, because everytime i was done seeing him, i was in a good mood coz the visit made me happy , coz the dr did what he was supposed to do. so by the time i got to the receptionist window to get my script, i didnt care about them. and every time i grabbed that script from the lady, i felt like saying haha B***h! Anyways I would bring it up to him definately, its discrimination on the highest level. I just cant get over the fact that there is someone else out there that went thru what i did and feels how i did. kinda dont want to bring it up
I am really leary of bringing this to the DR s attention. I go to a very small drs office with a staff of about 4 ...dr, his wife, nurse and receptionist. I am afraid they are family, and I may get no relief if i offend the dr....But I am eager to hear Dr Lois' take on this situation. and I am in Ft Worth Texas take a stand for your rights
If i was you i would certainly bring this up with your doctor as no one and i mean no one has the right to treat you that way.the are being very condelecence and who knows how many more patience their doing this to.just before i got a new doc ,about 8 months ago the receptinist at my last doc ,i felt she was treating me with disrespect.i would walk in and she acted as if no one had come in and as if i was not worthy as much as other patience, when i would call in for refills it's as if i was waisting her time.sorry ,but that is one of her functions being the receptipnist and i also found out that she was the doc's sister.i guess she felt that she could choose who to be nice too.so i did tell my doc about her manners and then she started acting nicer to me.i have notice that in my years dealing with nurses recptionist and even the staff at certain pharmacist take upon them to treat us like children, some of them treats you like your a drug addict and for others they try to interfere somehow thinking that they are the doc.for those poeple i say you need to bring them back to earth and let them know that you will not be treated that way and let your voice be herd.be strong and let it be known to them also that if that kind of behavior still continue there will be consiquences for their behavior and then if nothing changes,do tell it to your doc. sorry this comment turned out so long but it just aggrivates me to see some poeple treating others as if they are not worthy of any respect and taking it in there own hands to insult any one, they are bullies.time to take a stand. It can take several days to
It can take several days to call in any perscription. The request from the patient has to be complete (you would not believe the number of people who ask for a refill but don't even leave their name, let alone the name of the drug or the pharmacy phone number or their own phone number). The chart has to be pulled, the medication must be verified, the call made and the call documented. Sounds like it should only take 5 minutes, right? multiply times 10-20 scripts a day in a busy office and you get the picture. Narcotics are especially troublesome since lower level practitioners even PA's and CNC's may not call in narcotics in some offices. A friend of mine, who has an HMO, said her doctor's office is charging $10 for every script they have to call in! Make sure you call for a refill 3-6 business days in advance. Tell them what day you will be out of meds, and why you are calling for a refill and not being seen in the office (ie. "the doctor said she wanted to know if the medications were working and if they were lasting a full month, well they are working great, and I didn't need to use more than she prescribed for the month.") Call back in 3 days to see if it was called in, if it is not available at the pharmacy. Most insurances will let you fill a presciption 3 days before you run out. Some pharmacies will discard scripts that are called in but not picked up within a few days. Try to get all your scripts in writing at each visit, so you don't need to call for refills. I see all of my CII patients once a month anyway, and CIII patients who are on regular doses, as opposed to as needed doses come in monthly as well. So there should be no reason to have to call in narcotics, more than occasionally for an unexpected problem. Make yourself a super-easy patient for the staff to deal with, and it might stop the dirty looks. Not that there is any excuse, but it happens. Be the flowing water and not the great mountain. drs office
If I was you, and u dont wanna bring it up to the dr. maybe go to or call the board of health, or whatever organization is in charge of drs and their staff. Im not sure if its the board of health or what, but there has to be someone else you can call and bring this to their attention. I can guarantee you arent the only one going thru this, I mean just from this site, I went thru the EXACT same thing. And I am a big guy with a shaved head, and piercings and a ton of tattoos, so imagine the looks I got from them! And if somebody already suggested this I apologize, as I didnt read all the replies. With what Dr Lois has said
With what Dr Lois has said may be at her clinic or whatever doctor's office she works at but in my instance I have never waited longer than 5-6 hours for a refill, but she is correct in saying that you have to have everything absolutley correct and I always ask the pharmacist(if I do not call the nurse myself) to repeat what I have told him/her on the phone and my doctor's office has 8 doctor's in that one building alone.I have down to almost a science, lol and it just seems to work for me. I usually call the nurse myself and she is fine with that. We generally tell patients
We generally tell patients to expect it to be called in within 24 hours. I usually do it at the end of the day or first thing in the am. Many practices in my area say to allow 3 business days. Some very large practices will have a staff member whose full time job it is to call in scripts and do prescription and proceedure prior authorizations. What luxury! I have had patients call me at home on a Saturday afternoon, asking me to call in their narcotic right away because they had just run out! That really takes nerve. I may be in the rare
I may be in the rare exception but I am rx'd roxi 15mgs 120/month and my dr. doesnt even like me to come in for a visit more often then every 3 mos. for medication mgmt. unless I have worsening symptoms or need an adjustment in dose. I just call his nurse advice/rx refills line in the morning and most times get a call after lunch telling me I have an rx waiting at the front desk. On the message it does say to allow 2 business days but I've never waited that long. All the staff are very kind regarding narcotic refills and the nurse has even gone out of her way tomake sure I got my rx within a few hours after being delayed when returning from a vacation. He or she WILL appreciate it
"well said Dr. Lois....I try to help my doc out as much as i can by being the good little patient" He or she WILL appreciate it and not give you cross looks. Faces will light up when you walk in, and not look like they just got booked into steerage on the Titanic! EXACTLY.....I saw my GP
EXACTLY.....I saw my GP today, and if they could just bottle her up they could make millions, because she just makes you feel good...one of the rare finds in doctors that actually take they time to listen and involve you in your treatement....I ask a billion questions, and i do everything she asked...even peed in the cup today beacuse they do random checks if you're prescribed narcotics from that office...no problem....i'm not diverting and i'm not abusing, i'm just leading a "Normal" life....with the help of medicine, that's all.......Ray Remember: Just do it.. EVERY PILL EVERY DAY This definitely sounds like
This definitely sounds like the nurse/and or receptionist is stereotyping you for whats considered "a user". It sounds like you are not having the same problems from your doc, but just that your doc is not stopping this rude behavior, even in his presence, correct? I would wait until the nurse or whoever leaves the room, and it is just your doc and you. Then, jokingly (but nicely), ask if she is having a bad day. Most likely he will answer yes or no, then ask why. At this point you can say that she just seemed to have an attitude in her interactions with you, or that she was rude. Say "maybe it's just me, but _______". Then you can try to segway into she's always treated that way, or I don't think she likes me. This way you are not offending anyone, or making yourself look bad if the nurse is a friend or family of the doctor. Maybe you just remind that nurse of an ex or someone in her past, and she is unknowingly transfering these feelings to you. She may not even realize she is doing it, but maybe later the doc can call her attention to it. If this does not work for you, then you should approach her directly. As nicely as you can go up to her at the end of your appointment and ask if she doesn't like you, or has a problem with you. Make sure you don't have an attitude when you ask b/c you don't want her to get defensive, but maybe the two of you can get this figured out and build a working relationship, or friendship. Again, she may not even realize she is doing it. Also, are you waiting until your meds are due, then calling for refills? As Dr. Lois said, most doc's offices take approx. 3 days to fill a request, so I would suggest calling 3-4 days early. If your meds are due on the 20th, call on the 16th for your refill, and tell them you just wanted to give them enough time to get it done before it is due. I'm a social worker, not a medical professional. All comments and thoughts are simply my opinion and experience. Fixed
well problem resolved... I went in and saw my Dr last week he came in sat down and we talked for about 30 minutes.. I told him nurse makes me feel bad everytime I call in for my refill... when I call on the day its due ...I have to wait 3 days.... when I call in three days early he says you are abusing them its too early? and wont even listen to me trying to tell him i am not out just giving him time to get them filled...I told the doctor that my pharmacy nor my insurance will let me fill even one day early.. and that i have added anxiety just dealing with his staff...dr said he will take care of his staff issues.. and when calling in refills to staff I should say "dr told me to call when i have 2-3 days left so you can get it called in before I run out" we will se how that goes this month! jc
