I have been taking 20mg of Oxycontin twice a day and still require 4+ 10mg percocets a day. I do have a PM appointment coming up on the 23rd to go over how everything is working. I am sick of leaving his office with not nearly enough medication to keep my pain level under 6 out of 10. What should I tell my Doctor?  I don't want to seam like a drug seeker but from everything I've read I probably need at least 30mg 3x a day of the oxycontin to reduce or even eliminate the need for the b/t meds. I'm not really sure how to approach him. I have tried everything he has offered without question. I don't want to tell him what I should need because I think he may take that the wrong way. I just want a baseline dosage that keeps my pain under 6 out of 10 and b/t meds should keep everything under 4 out of 10. I don't think this is a unrealistic goal. All responses are appreciated so please comment. I need help here I just don't know what to say to him. He started me off on the 10 mg oxycontin twice a day and had no relief and I feel the same way about the 20mg dose. The percocets do work so why isn't the oxycontin working. Thank you all in advance for reading my post and replying.

Is this a new doctor or have

Is this a new doctor or have you been seeing him for some time? I have found out that if you are a new patient he might be wanting to go slow with you for any number of reason's. The Oxycodone ER you are taking is 40 mg over a 24 hour period, IMO that is why the Oxycodone IR is working so much better for you. I would just be upfront with him and ask him how his procedures are regarding pain. Luckily I have a doctor that spends time with me if I need it but so many doctors are in and out with patients. Just tell him what your pain level is because you know best and if he is prescribing the med's you  are mentioning IMO he does not see you as a drug seeker Ask him how he would feel about slowly advancing your pain med's until the level of pain is bearable with the amount he is prescribing. That is how I would (and did) approach it but there are many different ways in asking your doctor

He is a new pm doctor I have

He is a new pm doctor I have seen him for about 3-4 months now. I moved here from Massachusetts that's why I have new doctors. He prescribes the percocets very liberally he gave me 180 the first time I saw him. He just seams to be very conservative with the oxycontin. I'm not sure if he is just cautious about giving to much or what. I suspect he wants to keep my dose as low as possible because I will be on these drugs the rest of my life and I am only 26. I am sure I will build tolerance over time and will leave more room for dose increases. The problem is the amount of oxycontin doesn't even do anything it is so small. 20mg every 12hrs. I suspect I will need at least 30mg 3 times a day to achieve proper analgesia unless by the time I get to that dose I already have built to much tolerance. He is will to prescribe the oxycontin 3 times a day because he asked me to try the 10mg 3 times a day first and I was like I'm gonna wanna go right to the 20mg from the 10 mg every 12hrs. Also I think once we find the right dose of oxycontin I will like to switch my b/t medication to dilaudid 4mg to take advantage of incomplete cross tolerance. I am just trying to achieve proper pain control. I don't think I'm asking to much. I just need help trying to figure out how to tell him without offending him. I don't wanna ruin our relationship since it is new. I know how important a relationship with your doctor really is. I would appreciate anyone's advise or comments. Thank you and please keep posting your thoughts.
