Xanax QuestionWhy does xanax cause short trerm memory loss or what may be described as a blackout experience. I have not done anything out of the ordinary during these episodes but just woke up the next day with memory block. I can recall up to certain point then nothing. I have never exceeded the rx'd dose but have experienced this type of memory loss at least three times now. I am only looking for the reason this happens. Please do not tell me to stop taking it etc. I only want to know if anybody can tell me why it occurs at all. ( categories: Discussion of Prescription and OTC Meds )
what? who? when? I DID WHAT?
Xanax will cause amnesia at prescribed doses, mabye you should consider lowering the dose if this is happeneing...I'm sure you've heard of the problem with drugs like ambien and lunesta causing "sleepdriving" or "sleepeating"......xanax will cause this too...just be careful and tell your doc about it..... Ray Remember: Just do it.. EVERY PILL EVERY DAY Dosage Lowered
I am using a 1/4 of the rx'd dose and it is doing what I wanted. I am using it to reduce the anxiety I feel from lowering my hydrocodone use. I have managed to cut my hydro useage in half without to much trouble so I am happy so far. This next weekend I going to try and get down to 40 mg or less per day. I actually drove my truck home, parked my trailed in the back yard, unhooked it, put my 4-wheeler up, changed clothes, had dinner and went to bed and have NO recollection of even arriving at home. I remember driving home but not actually getting there. My wife did not notice any strange behavior at all but it scared the HELL out of me the next day when I woke up and had no memory of the last two or three hours of my previous day. Quite interesting I had this
Quite interesting I had this problem with 2 mg of Ativan 3x daily then I had to switch to diazepam and over the last 10 years not a one blackout. Blacking out on those Ativan scared me for I did drive my vechile, went the next day to my doctor and gave her the remaining 85 or so. Very dangerous stuff for me but I do know of several people that have no problem with the ativan I rarely take the diazepam because I refuse to be dependent on more than one med, that one being oxycodone I experienced similar
I experienced similar effects even at low doses with Xanax, 0.5mg BID. It was usually on a smaller scale though, things like going through a light and thinking a few minutes later "Was that light red or green?" or "Did that red light change green or not?" or "How the heck did I just drive 40 minutes and not remember getting home?". Its possible that if you where driving on a freeway/highwal that doesnt have many curves that you experienced "Highway Hypnosis" with the added amnesia effects of the Xanax. Xanax=Felony if you're not careful
Esp. at lower doses you'll not remember little things like that....ususally people do 1 of 2 things, remember vagely (sp) what happened or don't remember a thing that happened. Remember that other medicines will enhance this effect....Even stuff like nyquil..etc.....just be careful. Ray Remember: Just do it.. EVERY PILL EVERY DAY I've been taking (4) 2mg
I've been taking (4) 2mg Xanax for about 6-8 months now... I've had serveral occasions where I do not remember doing anything of what I have done and then other times it doesn't effect me at all... Nothing in my habitat changes (alcohol, prescribed medication, unprescribed medication, etc)... I asked my doctor why this happens every now and then and she said that sometimes it's just the way the drug reacts with the natural chemicals in your body... it is normal to have Short Term Memory Loss no matter what your dosage is...
I can take this medication and run around happy go lucky full of energy without anxiety, however on the other hand, my husband can take the same dosage and 15 minutes be asleep... It affects everyone in different but simiular ways just depending on your natural chemical production...
Hope this helps :) Take one day at a time! That just goes to show how
That just goes to show how the same drug affects people differently...I'm the same way, I have a high tolerance for benzos, but the only time i've ever had any problems with amnesia was when i had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago, They gave me enought versed (15mg) for a horse, and with 500mcg on fentanyl on top of that....I didn't fall asleep, wasn't tired or out of it....the nurses were actually surprised....That one said that she had never seen anyone get that much versed/fentanyl and not be out of it......The only thing is I don't really remember the rest of the day....I never did go to sleep....the day just kinda slipped by and i didn't notice...lol..oh well, could have been worse i guess ... Ray Remember: Just do it.. EVERY PILL EVERY DAY Slitter the same thing
Slitter the same thing happened to me last year when I had the colonoscopy,I was only give 300 mcg of fentanyl but because of my high tolerance of oxycodone I was wide awake and talkin to the doctor. He had to stop about 1 minute later and I have to go back where they will really knock me out and give me a drug that will paralyze me which I really feel very leary about. I am worried I will be aware of what is going on and not being able to tell anyone |
