need help about going from one doc to anotherI broke my ankle about month and half ago. Went to podiatrist and had x-rays done and a boot cast put on. Was given script of 4 hydrocodone 7.5 a day for two weeks and told to come back. Went back for evaluation and was given the same script but for a month. Went to last app. three days ago for evaluation and Dr. referred me to an orthopedic doc for evaluation. Problem is that when the ortho doc called me with appointment I will have run out of pain meds for three weeks. What should I do? I forgot to mention that I was also given a script of neurontin on second visit to podiatrist.( categories: Discussion of Prescription and OTC Meds )
If you dont have enough to
If you dont have enough to last untill your new appointment call your podiatrist and explain the situation and I am sure he will most likely give you another prescription for the three weeks untill your new appointment at least thats if he still wants you to be taking them. You say you broke your ankle
You say you broke your ankle about a month & a half ago and you don't see the Ortho doc for 3 weeks, right? By then shouldnt it be close to healed? I know when I broke all my toes, it was pretty well healed by 2 months. About the meds........Just call the Podiatrist & explain it to her. I'm sure the Ortho won't give you anything until you see them. Is there any way you can get in sooner w/ the Ortho? Call the last doc you saw
Call the last doc you saw (the one that was prescribing) and tell him that you are gonna run out of meds until your next appt....I've had several docs do that for me.....Make a referral and then make sure to give you enough meds to last until the appt.... Ray Remember: Just do it.. EVERY PILL EVERY DAY i agree
i have had drs do this for me too, just dont count on the ortho to give you anything. I was referred to an ortho for my neck, and he was the biggest ******* u would ever meet. and when i asked him about pain meds he told me he didnt believe in them and gave me a script for naproxen! which i could just get otc! he was such a loser. so if this guy is supposed to take your care over from the other doc that has been giving u the meds, dont count on any more. just be ready for that. here is why
Here is why I am just now getting the appt. to orto dr. Podiatrist treated me with a boot cast, but on my last appt. the swelling had only went down .4 millimeters and the pain got a little worse after I went back to work. Thats when she decided to refer me to the orthopedic. or thast a good point.
Good point. KK. But just be ready to defend yourself and the level of pain you will be in. If he said he doesnt believe in them you should have said, you do and YOU are the one who will be in pain not him. I swear to god its such a lack of care. These jerks use that same 'ol cop out... Goodluck man!! I called podiatrist to schedule
to schedule appointment to see the doc to get my meds rescripted. The dr.s assistant said she did not know and that she was super busy at the moment. So I asked if I should call back later. She said no that she would call me back. That was two days ago. My meds will be gone on Sunday and my appt. with orthopedic dr./surgeon isn't until June 2. Should I call the podiatrist office back Friday morning. Thanks for any replies. Dont mess around with the
Dont mess around with the phone. Go there in person. Take what meds you have left with you, so they know your not trying to "get extra" pills from them. If the receptionist tells you she or the doctor is too busy again, just tell her you'll wait. Anyone can blow you off over the phone. NO YOU SHOULD NOT AND WILL NOT WAIT
hey man quick advice. go there in person and do not wait until you are in extreme pain. even if you wait, the medicine will not be as effective if you are in the middle of a pain crisis. take it before the pain happends and get the scrip before hand. I mean you have records, mri's and all this proof and you are still getting flack?? What ever quack!!! Tell us your progress ok? Later!!! called back
called podiatrists office back yesterday(friday) and asked dr assistant if she had tried to call me back to schedule an appt. She said no that she had been too busy. Keep in mind it had been 5 days since she said she would call me back. Anyway, yesterday when I called back she said doc was not in office so she couldn,t ask her what to do. so I told her to schedule me an appt. for Mon. that I would talk to the dr. about rescripting my meds ,til I see the orthopedic dr/surgeon. Will let you guys know how it goes. norco 10/325
Went to my appt. w/podiatrist today and told her my situation about being out of my lortab 7.5 and neurontin and that my appt. with orthopedic surgeon is still 2 weeks away. She rewrote my neurontin with 2 refills AND she gave me #120 Norco 10mg. A months worth. Also she said that if the ortho cannot treat me that she will continue to treat me and if the time comes that she will refer me to a pain management clinic. I guess I was worried over nothing. Actually I wasn't because dr's in my area of the country are very reluctant to write narcotic pain meds. I know this from experience. In the past 10 years I have had 2 severe car wrecks in which I fractured my skull, broke my knee, leg and sternum, and punctured both of my lungs. Recieved 95 stitches on my forehead and 30 on my knee. After a month in the hospital the strongest pain med the drs would give me was 5mg hydrocodone. See and you were owrried about nothing
