Suboxone

Enter the word 'suboxone' into the search box in the upper top right of the page and you will find hundreds of posts discussing the drug.

Apparently it's an excellent drug for treating opioid dependence.

You can find comprehensive information and a doctor finder on the Suboxone website:

For sure(first hand knowledge)

I was on methadone for many years due to my opiate addiction which started with oxycontin and took me places I do not want to re-visit.  But I relapsed many times and don't think I ever had a period of more that 6 months clean.  However, I have now swithced to suboxone and have been clean for over a year.  Listen to kirby, research it first.  Also, Because of the naloxone in it, you must have not used any opiates for at the very least 24 hours, I would recomend 48 and be in withdrwal before you start taking the sub or it will def. put you there.  But the doctor should tell you this.  Keep me up to date on how you do will ya?

Its a GREAT way to treat

Its a GREAT way to treat opiate dependence. Well it was great for me anyway. Naturally everyone is different. But to me it was literally a miracle drug. I couldnt believe that it really took away the cravings of my oxycodone addiction. From the very first dose I took of Suboxone, I felt like my old self....the person I was before I became addicted to painkillers.

I have become a huge advocate of Suboxone since my experience. Once again I will state, everyone is different, but for me personally it was a life restorer.

Short Term

The suboxone is very effective in treating WD's from opiates in the short term (7 days or less). I would get some sound medical advice if you want to continue on a longer term maintanence plan. Long term suboxone users have said the withdrawal from suboxone is very difficult. I  have tapered from 12mg down to 2mg the past month. The 2mg seems to work ok for my pain. At some point I will have to taper even more from the 2mg/day and take the final leap. I had a lot of mental side effects with suboxone such as libido loss, depression,no motivation, and lethargy that some folks experience. If your goal is to detox and remain opiate free I would say the shorter time on sub the better.

When I first started to take

When I first started to take suboxone I asked the doc how long I could expect to be on it. He said anywhere from 6 months to a year maybe 2.Their suboxone customers are cash cows and THATS why they want you on such a long duration. I went from hardcore oxycodone addiction to painkiller free within 6 weeks using just a supply of 50 8mg pills. The doc said take 2 8mg per day everyday but I soon tapered myself down to 3/4's 2x a day to 1/2 2x a day to a 1/4 2x a day to finally just a 1/4 once a day until I no longer had anymore desire to take painkillers or suboxone. So just a warning, IMO you dont necessarily need to follow the docs dosage suggestions if you feel you dont need it. Remember you are a customer to him/her...... bottomline.

And of course I will follow this up by saying everyone is different, what works for some may not work for others.....bla, bla, bla. My words above are just advice to keep your eyes open to that.
