I have been diagnosed recently with 2 bulging discs, 1 internally ruptered disc, spondylosis, and spondylolytheses. I have been on Vicodin ES 4 two years it is not as effective as it used to be and I am going to a new doc due to insurance coverage. What do I do if they take me off of it? I wouldnt mind switching to something else but what do I do if they try to cut me off?

What I would do

Bring in your prescription bottles and the medical records to the appointment. If and when the medication part comes up, you can tell him that you brought the prescription bottles and if you can, try to get  your prescription records also. Just talk to the doctor and be honest. Also tell him that since you have been on it for a while (your medicine) it isn't offering the same pain relief you had from when you first took it. Just be honest. And hey, so honest that if the doctor starts becoming indignant, tell him that you would be willing to sign a contract and to be drug screened. You know, I feel really bad that we in the 21st century, with advancements in medicine and technology, people have to endure suspicion and doubt when they report pain to someone who can help. It is somewhat unethical but necessary to prevent drug seekers. But to be honest, this seems to be the "side effects" of prescription monitoring programs and the DEA  but that is another topic. And hey, once they becoming involved in the mix of medicine, god help us...

Anyway, I hope everything goes well and please update us. This will help us see how this issue progresses from the get-go.

God Bless :)

thanks..

I am going today and I forgot to mention but the doctor who was prescribing me the Vicodin ES is not a good doctor. He will prescribe anything to anyone as long as they have $$ I legitimately have pain and w/ out insurance it is hard to find a good doctor which is why i'm switching since i have new insurance but with this doctors reputation I am kind of afraid to mention that I went there because i dont want them to think i am seeking or something bad like that. I will keep u all updated. I am also taking copies of my MRI and x-rays and my chiropractor has helped me a lot but the conservative approach hasn't been working so well, and I have really tried to go without but some days I cant even put ona pair of pants and I can bearly sleep due to the pain in my hips and the shooting pain down my leg. So when I go in I will just be honest and go from there.

well....

i went today and ended up paying $130 out of my pocket and they sent me away for bloodwork. I dont know if I want to go back because I dont want to end up paying out of my pocket again and waiting for the ins company to reimburse me. They seemed really unprofessional, and I just got a feeling like the doctor wasnt listening to me and just rushed me off.

Wait did you ask why?

Wait why did they need blood work if you dont mind me askin? Bloodwork is expensive.. I think you hit it with your last post when you said he LOVES the $$$. Hey dont worry, a doctor's reputation is his own and not yours. If you chose to go to him then its your choice just like it is for anyone else. Dont be worried. What happened with the medication issue? You had reports and everything right?? What happened??

 Wishing you well...
