Watson's Round Yellow - Advertised as Codeine 60mgI've never seen this pill before - as the subject states - Watson's Round Yellow - Advertised as Codeine 60mg. I'll be posting an image soon. Can anyone verify this? Thank you! ( categories: Pill Identification )
Here's the pic
Tablet Imprinted Wilsons
Thanks for the image. It's an interesting tablet. In fact the background on the imprint side closely resembles a Canadian Tylenol #4 with Codeine: Submitted by Aesthir on November 9, 2005 - 4:35pm.
One other poster asked about this imprint and thought it was codeine. And you think it's codeine, so it very well could be some type of combo product containing codeine. Here is the other thread: http://www.pharmer.org/node/8383 No one replied to the previous question apparently because no one has access to references covering Pakistani meds. sjd0103, please measure the tablet for us. Millimeters are best. But if you don't have a ruler handy, then compare the tablet to a penny, nickel or dime and give us an approximate size. Thanks. I'm not a pharmacist or a medical doctor. Thank you very much, cohnnyjash, for the closeup image and especially for the measurements. Okay, based on the measurements the tablet is probably not pure codeine. The size is the same size as most US round tablets containing 500 mg acetaminophen - see these images: http://www.pharmer.org/node/11290 http://www.pharmer.org/node/2309 http://www.pharmer.org/node/8354 And the diameter is the same as two US generic Tylenol with Codeine tablets. So the Wilson's tablet, if it actually does contain codeine, has another ingredient - probably APAP. I've only seen one pure codeine tablet (30 mg) and it was tiny - about the same size as Dulcolax (5 mm diameter). I'm guessing 60 mg pure codeine is probably a little larger, maybe 6 or 7 mm. I guess it's possible the tab is extended-release codeine or codeine that's effervescent (like Alka Seltzer), and these would probably be bigger than plain codeine. But you could probably tell by the texture if it's those types of tablets. I'm not a pharmacist or a medical doctor. This message is not medical advice nor is it an offer to provide medical advice. I dissolved some tablets in water (nothing effervescent happened) and chilled the water right down. Almost all of it dissolved entirely, although when the solution was filtered a small amount of some filler of sorts remained (though noticeably less than you would get subjecting a typical cocodamol tablet to the same procedure). The solution was clear with a slightly yellow colour. Wilson's Imprint
Thanks, cohnnyjash. I guess we're back to square one with this pill ID. If you say the tablet doesn't leave much residue, then apparently it doesn't contain APAP. Maybe someone with a chemical background can help us out here. What other drugs are water soluble and likely to be combined with codeine? Carisoprodol, aspirin, diclofenac and ibuprofen are about the only drugs I can think of that are common all over the world and sometimes combined with codeine, but there are probably others. And I have no idea about solubility of these meds. And one other important question - is there any significant size difference between codeine sulfate and codeine phosphate? The tiny pill I mentioned earlier is codeine phosphate. I'm not a pharmacist or a medical doctor. This message is not medical advice nor is it an offer to provide medical advice. Thanks for your considered opinion, Kirby. In my view I don't think these tablets contain APAP (paracetamol), aspirin, ibuprofen, nor carisoprodol (I'm sure I would have felt that), or seemingly any other non-soluble filler. Wow thanks for the ID...a
Wow thanks for the ID...a picture of the blister packs would help..... From what i read it appears there is tylenol in the pill and i never heard of wilsons so chances are it is a foreign codeine/apap pill. Here is a link to a pakistani website talking about the codogesic made by wilson that says they do make the 15/500 pill although there isnt a picture. http://www.pakmedinet.com/trade.php?id=5402 |
