Oxycontin, 8hrs or 12Has anybody that takes oxycontin ever got pain relief for 12 hrs as claimed? ( categories: Discussion of Prescription and OTC Meds )
Oxycontin dosing
I was on Oxycontin a few years ago, and my doctor put me on it with TID dosing. I went as high as 160 mg TID. I never had a dose last longer than seven or eight hours. It was that way at 20 mg when I first started with it and all the way up to 160 mg.
Well, yes, but...I have
Well, yes, but... I have fibromyalgia, and I have noticed that on my bad days, it doesn't seem like I get enough relief from the regular dose, like 7 or 8 hours. After a few bad days, I will feel a lot better, and on these days the oxycontin (same dose) seems to be much more potent, and the effects will last longer- 12 or even 14 hours. I have this varying pain-level effect with migraines, too. If the headache is getting worse, it takes a lot of break-through meds before I get pain relief. I think I am able to manage oxycontin long term because I do have good days, and on these good days I am able to reduce, even if just slightly, my opioid dose. The dosing of Oxycontin
The dosing of Oxycontin never came close to 12 hours releif for myself at all,not even the first time it was RX's for me .For a long period of time I never told my doctor out of fear. The fear was one of many different reason's but when my doctor asked me at least 4 or 5 yrs later how the med's were working for me I told her the truth that it did not come close to 12 hours releif The doctor mentioned that for many 12 hours did not work for them and asked me if I wanted to try taking one every 8 hours and of course I said yes. That was absolutley how long the med's worked for me-8 hrs. Now 13 yrs or so later different problems developed in my back and neck by way of an irresponsible driver of the car I was seated in. There used to be a weekly chronic pain support group I attended and was surprised of the amount of patients who were taking Oxycontin or MS Contin and at 8 hr dosing. I am sure it has to do with tolerance for myself but I never asked about the other attendee's I did move to a different state and do miss that weekly session. i think it is this way with
