hi all. I was reading the interesting thread on xanax and methadone. My question is does mixing xanax with meth compare with mixing valium, subutex, stemetil as this is what my gp prescribed me during my "opiate" detox. Started me on 60ml of valium , 16 ml subutex , and 3 - 5ml stemetil four times a day . I suppose my question is did my doc over prescribe ? although it worked well, and my valium has been lowered (tapered) to a much lower dose, could this have been a dangerous cocktail of meds? I"m still here , so obviously it was"nt dangerous to me , but could the same mixture be dangerous to his next patient ? hope this makes sense.... thankyou.
Thanks for your comments..... and yes you are right MG"s of course. I forgot to mention i was am/ was , also prescribed britlofex for the hot / cold sweats , although also great for a nap...... now all i have to do is get the brain working again lol..... which i have been prescribed citolapram , 2 -20 MG"s in the morning , although looking at the side effects i might just try ride that one out as i don"t fancy walking about with man - boobs ! gosh, i sound like a walking pharmacy ha ha .... but so far i have beat the devil , fingers crossed, thanks for taking time out to reply , be happy , buck.
I myself am on 20 mg of diazepam daily or as needed and I was always nervous that I would get dependent to them. I am for sure dependent on a type of narcotic and I sure would not like to be addicted or dependent on any benzo's I never have so far and I always wondered what the difference is between withdrawl of opiates and benzo's I would guess that the withdrawl of opiates (for me) would be worse than benzo's but of course I am only guessing. I am on a fairly high amount of this narcotic daily.
The recommendations for using buprenorphine in the US for narcotic addiction strongly advise against using benzodiazapines, like valium or xanax, at the same time. However, because of the ceiling effect, and the low risk of respiratory depression with suboxone or subutex, it is not as risky to use benzodiazapines with suboxone or subutex as it is to use benzodiazapines with other narcotics, especially narcotics with very long half-lives like methadone, or variable metabolism like hydrocodone or oxycodone.
Hey happy did you just start this detox program? I was just wondering because subutex is usually used in the induction stage of detox, or did you switch from suboxone because of headace issues? Taking benzos with suboxone or subutex could be fatal but taking them as prescribed under a doctors supervision is fine a doctor wouldent rx you somthing if he/she didnt think it would be good for your own well being. As far as benzo and opiate detox I would say that benzo withdrawl is far worse than that of opiates.
Regards, JpD
I agree that benzo withdrawal is worse but it all depends on the amount your taking. Also anything can be lethal if you take too much normally if a doctor prescribes it they should know the limits and normal prescribing procedures so you shouldn't really worry about it if you are being prescribed unless the doctor is completely retarded and thus shouldn't be a doctor in the first place.
HI again...... sorry , should have added i slipped up last year while doing my "opiate" detox and was seen by a new doc who prescribed the mentioned meds..... in other words started a new detox which i have just about completed... i really did"nt realise how many "life" changes i had to make , hence my slip up. I stayed with my girlfreind who i thought i could help as i felt strong enough (stupidly) once i was clean. i OFTEN WONDER why addicts , whatever their choice of drug seem not to like you (me) straight, clean and basically live a normal life ? One of the reasons i started this thread is because the prescribing doctor was dishing out up to 120mls of methadone along with benzo"s and valoid , which here in the UK is widely abused as when mixed with illicit opiates is a lethal combination because of the cyclazine, people were dying losing limbs etc. I mean this doctor was genuinely trying his best to help addicts, but obviously was"nt clued up enough to realise how cunning and sneaky addicts can be. You would go to the chemist once a week , pick up your meds and do what you wanted to do , either go on a mad one , sell your bits on , or be genuine and take your meds as directed. Sometimes i would"nt even see my gp for 6 wks so you can only imagine the out- come ! I personally felt sorry for this doc as my counsellor actually told me the gp could"nt say no to these people, whatever they asked for they got ! I can honestly say he helped me turn my life around , but some of his patients are still on the merry go round. I am in no way tarring gp"s or addicts with the same brush, but in my town anyway things have to be tightened up A LOT. Sorry this was such a long post , but thought i would give forum members a picture of how things can be totally messed up and doctors lose their good name while thinking they are helping you. He helped me and i shall be forever thankful to this guy, now the hard part begins , abstinance. thankyou.

Hi happy! what u are asking is pretty similar for detoxing, if its done right, theres usually an opiate in low doses so u dont get high, just to take away wd symptoms, and some type of antianxiety med, again not too hi of a dose coz u are mixing with opiates, and a med for your stomach issues. when i was in detox they gave methadone in way too low of doses even for detoxing, and librium which is a weak benzo for anxiety and sleep, and bentyl(spelling?) for stomach issues.
This is all similar to what you got. The subutex is the opiate part, the valium is obviously the antianxiety part and the stemetil for stomach issues. to me it doesnt sound like overmedicating at all. it sounds like he was right on, though you typed ml, did you mean mg? coz it would be milligrams, not milliliters.
Potentially if taken NOT as directed, and taken in higher doses the valium and subutex COULD be dangerous, but not at the dosage he rxed you. Thats what I think about the whole thing. So obviously you detoxed all right and it worked for you, so congrats.
