What is KadianIs Kadian like Avinza. Avinza manages my pain but is is very expensive. Is their a generic form of Avinza? I like taking it once daily too. I never thought of changing meds until now and my current situation I would appreciate any information on other meds like it. Thanks, AnnHurts ( categories: Discussion of Prescription and OTC Meds )
kadian is morphine sulfate
kadian is morphine sulfate the same stuff in Avinza. There is also MS Contin which contains the same ingredient morphine sulfate and there are tons of generics for the MS contin. I have only seen brand name Kadian so i dont know if there are generics. Thanks
Hi Frkonaleash1010 Thank you for the information. I have been on Avinza 5 years, and now have been off it three weeks or so. Only because my Pain Management doctor (I have been with them 10 years, since I had my car accident) will no longer write schedule 2 meds. I have been on hydrocodone the past 3 weeks and I hate the way it makes me feel. I want to be able to go into my new Pain Management doctor and discuss other obtions in medication that were like Avinza but not so expensive. Thank you for sharing some of you time with me. I appreciate the information AnnHurts Thanks Goat
Hi, Goat ms contin is that something that you take once a day? Do you know if it has many side effects? If I wanted to do some quick learning about schedule 2 meds. Do you know if there is a web site that compaires meds to another etc., dosage, side effects, costs. . . Thanks again for your help. I sincerely appreciate any insight you have. AnnHurts
ms contin
Hi I was on ms contin w/oxy ir 5mg for BT pain. The ms contin dose was 1 20mg pill twice a day. Did not work for me Morphine just does not help me. Now I am on methadone just started 5mg x 3 per day w/ same BT. MD says it will take time to get right dose of meth, but it does work and for 45 pills it would have been $7.00 with no ins. Hope this helps. Feel Better and Best Wishes, Nan The avinza is the only one
The avinza is the only one dosed once per day. The MS contin and Kadian are supposed to last for 12 hours but I have heard of people saying they only last 8 and having the doctor write for 2 or 3 per day. But for the price difference it is worth it because I am sure generic mscontin will be much cheaper than Avinza. Hi, Frkonaleash1010I am
Hi, Frkonaleash1010 I am feeling a little foolish for never asking if there were other meds that would be cheaper. Wow the money were have spent in 5 years, I'm not doing the math on that, WOW. Thanks for the suggestions and sharing them with me. AnnHurts
In my experience Kadian
In my experience Kadian works well with 2X a day dosing, although some people can take it once a day. MS contin is one of the least expensive "long acting" medications, but most people take it 2-3X a day. Methadone is also inexpensive, but has it's own set of problems. Did you ever find out why your doctor will no longer write for C-II drugs? Avinza or not
Dr. Lois Thanks for you concern, I did find a new Pain Management doctor, I see him this week. His PA said if I bring an prescription bottle for Avinza that they would refill it for me. Thanks for asking! HERE IS A NEW QUESTION: I was so sure that when I stopped taking Avinza and starting taking Tramadol, my face and lips swelled from an allergic reaction from Tramadol. On day 3 of Tramadol is when my face started swelling. I was sure it was from Tramadol. My son/25 thought it was from not taking the Avinza. Then explained "opioid-induced hyperalgesia"...... the receptors were reacting to the absence of Avinza. . .WHAT DO YOU THINK What are the pros and cons to Ms contin. What would be the safest in the long run. All things considered I am in great health, 50 years young. I have appreciated so much your interest in me and the contrbutions to this forum. I have been staying up late reading back dated articles and have learned so much. Thank you for your time. AnnHurts Hi Nanie,Thanks for the well
Hi Nanie, Thanks for the well wishes. With the cost factor of Avinza close to $350.00 a month/I have no insurance, I might consider other meds, but Avinza does work for me. If I might ask what kind of pain do you suffer from? Thanks for your interest in me and for sharing your thoughts. AnnHurts |
