Methadone and XanaxMy brother is 57 yrs od and has been an active drug addict for about 40 yrs. He has done it all. His wife of 29 yrs overdosed a little over a yr ago and died.Needless to say his abuse has gotten worse.However so has mental health.He wants help and is willing to go to rehab.I am wondering if there is anybody who has had any kind of similar experience. He has been on Methadone for about 25 yrs and Xanax on and off for about 5 yrs now.He takes 10 or 12 bars a day when is activley abusing. I always wonder how he lived through it. I still believe there is hope for an old addict. I would like your views or similar experiences. Should we try to get help AGAIN or just leave him alone? Hi Sful.....i am on a methadone clinic also, and on klonopin for panic attacks. not nearly as long as your brother though, but i do have experience. Well you said he wants help and is willing to go into rehab right? Obviously his abuse and mental health got worse after losing his wife, and using was the way he dealt with it, like most addicts deal with death and other problems. So if u said he is willing to get help why did u ask if u should try help again or let him be?? If he wants help then u definately do it!!!!! that is the time to do it, when he admits he has a problem andis willing to go for help!! if he was fighting u about it and not willing to go THEN u leave him or do an intervention or something. But if he is willing then DO IT NOW! there are no guarantees, but u have to try, he has to try. I also cant believe how many poles he would take when he was abusing! u are right about how he lived thru it, especially on methadone, coz if hes been using as long as u say, then his mdone dose must be pretty high. SO FIND HIM A BED SOMEWHERE! AND STICK BY HIS SIDE AND ENCOURAGE HIM. sfulmer

Ever since ive been in recovery and on methadone, i feel like i need to help other addicts or people who have addicts in their lives and need help and dont know what to do. mostly coz i have been there and done it all, so i know how to deal with certain situations.
Methadone and Xanax
Hi- Thanks for your reply -It has been a very rocky couple of weeks! My brother ,T would get very close to going into treatment and then back out! On Friday he overdosed and is now in the hospital.He moved form CCU to the mental health facility yesterday(Sunday).The doctor is going to help him detox off of the Methadone first and put him on a drug called Naltrexone. Iunderstand it to be similar to antibuse for alcohol. His tolerance is extremley high and I am ALWAYS amazed he lives through it all.I found Fentanyl suckers he had been using as well. We will take it one day at a time and for today he is getting help!

well well well....i guess its been a rocky couple weeks huh? First let me express my regards for your bro od'ing. BUT he is alive and somehow made it thru. someone was watchin out for him, now im not religious, but i believe there can be someone looking out for u when u need it. So im happy for u for that, that he made it and is now gonna get help. See it took him overdosing to physically get into a place where there is help, but things happen for a reason; i think anyways. if u dont mind me asking... what did he od on..was it just opiates, or opis and benzos, or just benzos... i am just curious. from what u said he could down the bzs like candy, so im guessing it was mostly that. But I have to go to my clinic for group now, so i just wanted to reply and tell you good luck, and he is where he needs to be right now. Brother T
He od'd on xanax and methadone -the methadone intesifies the affect of the xanax. Not a pretty situation. If you dont mind my asking I would like to know more about your story. It helps me to talk to other people here and I very much appreciate your time.

See there are people in here who care. I stand back and see that not only are there people who are using opiates for their conditions but those who are honest and say what they have been through if they have abused them. Its rare that you find those who have an addiction problem and yet have unbearable pain and we see their struggle. Man hats off to you MD. And if he is willing to stop, DO IT NOW. Thanks a lot flyer, much appreciated. Yup I was an addict BEFORE i got hurt, usually its the opposite. I had been using for about 6 years before i got hurt, then i was getting pills legally?? i was in heaven...BUT not for long. i spun outta control real quick, month long scripts of roxi 15s were lasting a few days, there was a lot of doing wrong to get what i needed, but im over it now. On a clinic, with counseling sessions and group sessions, and taking non narcotic meds for my neck injury. But like I and others said, u or they, whoever it is, MUST ADMIT TO HAVING A PROBLEM< AND WANT TO GET HELP! if that part isnt in place you are standing still. methadone and xanax
do not ever give up there is always hope. he needs a 6mo.lockdown rehab but a person really has to want help before it can really work. have u tried an intervention. his tollerance is so high i cannot beleave he is still alive. i will keep your family in my prayers GET HIM HELP!!!
i think you deff. need to get him help. i am only 17 yrs old so many people think i am nieve (spelling) but about 7 months ago in december i overdosed on exacty that. methadone and xanax. i am a recovering drug addict. i nearly died. i passed outt in an odd position causing the circulation to my legs to be cut off. my mom found me in my room after 12 hrs while i was siezing from my overdose. i nearly lost my life and my legs. i was a perfectly healthy teenage girl who now is on 9 diff meds. i have to use braces on my legs to walk (witch i will have to where for the rest of my life) and after 7 months of hard work i walk with a cane. i perminatly lost all feeling and movement in my feet. so i think you really need to get him help or he might endup losing his life.\

you have learned more in your very short life than most people learn in an entire lifetime! I am really happy for you -that you are alive and abuse free. Your legs will always be a remider of what DRUGS are good for. Everything BAD.I admire your courage and wish you the very besT!
