Detoxing Oxycodone with Vicodin, Darvocet, CodeinAnybody try coming off Percocet/Oxy with hydrocodone, darvocet, or even girl??? I need to come off but am too undiciplined to wean myself off DOC percocet and really think I can (need to)beat it without rehab... Take care ( categories: Discussion of Prescription and OTC Meds )
doing it as we speak ...
I have used 2 1/2 OC 80's daily, or should I say abused them... I used the same amount of lortab in mgs as percs to begin weaning.. Im sure you realize that, Oxy, is more potent than Hydro codone... so I basically went from 2 1/2 80s to 6.5 perc 10's to 5 perc 10s, to 1/2 perc 10 + 5 Lortab 10, to 4.5 lortab 10s (no percs), to 2.5 10s of lortab, to 1.5 lortab 10, to 1 5mg lortab.... It sucked and you will still go thru withdrawals and sleep and all that stuff is still an issue (in case you didnt notice the time of my post, but it is 317AM where Im at) you will sweat like a horse, the cha cha cha's will be present, but they arent to the umteenth degree as if you just stopped cold turkey, but the flip side is, if you go cold turkey, you have like 3 really bad days and then it gets better. Ive done it before.. Which really tells me that prolly most all of us in your boat need some help.. meetings or counseling.... I have not heard the "cha
I have not heard the "cha cha cha's in years. LMAO Wow I had a good laugh when I read that term, but there was someone in here that had a 10 month detox formula that looked like it would definitely work. This person had it down to the day and seemed to me a good formula. When I was a social worker I had seen quite a few methadone clinic clients that had gone to jail, self detoxed in 30 day's and other type detox's that I thought was too short, but it is up to them. IMO one might want to go to N/A meetings or some type of support groups and probably the hardest is changing friends or even staying away from relatives who are addicted. Sure ain't easy You are simply substituting
Dr. Lois is completely
Dr. Lois is completely right. Saying you dont have the will power to ween down the the oxycodone but have the power to do it with hydrocodone or propoxyphene or codeine is the stupidest thing i ever heard. an opiate is still an opiate no matter which one it is so i dont get how you can possibley say that. Just because its weaker doesn't mean it wont still give you the opiate effects that an addict is looking for (and this is coming from an addict). You are either gonna ween off or you arn't but going to a weaker opiate wont make the weening any easier. need help detoxing from 2+ er oc 80's daily
Hello I am new to posting on this site ,although I have perused it for two years at least since 06. I have been abusing I ,think the Teva generic oxycontin 80 mg ER, they are light green/blue oval shaped, and have the # 33 on one side, and 93 on the other side ,with no scoring, on them, for about 4 months now , I want to quit taking the oxys, but I am really scared to just quit cold turkey, I am a fairly strong willed individual. and I ,have gone through wd's before on both methadone, about 30 mg a day for a month maybe , and also the oxys 80's but I never used them for longer than a 6-8 week period, around 1 80 er a day, a lot less than the 200 mg's+ I have been abusing for like 4 months or so now. The meth wd's were in my opinion worse, really bad for 3-4 days, and that was only taking them for a month or less, before I , decided to quit them ct. Now, the last time I tried to quit the oxy habit ,cold turkey I got so sick I had to go to the er , and get seen , and I avoided having to get admitted , but I had to take steroids, for my lungs I , was havind difficulty breathing, and REALLY STRONG ANTIBIOTICS, LEVAQUIN, TO GET WELL, AND IT TOOK FOREVER TO QUIT FELLING SICK IT SEEMED ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS although it was winter, and I tend to get sick at least once every winter with an URI anyway. I, have a bone on bone rt. knee no cartlidge left really, and the doc I was going to is not going to prescribe any more meds to me because I was truthful, and admitted the abuse, is it possible to wean from such a habit of only about 4 months now? I , am trying it now and am down to about 30 mg perc's twice aday, and it is helping take the edge off, although I , am still feeling pretty sick, obviously my body was used to a lot more a day with the 2-3 80 oxy's, but I have quit them totally, and I am maintaining at present, sick somewhat but not as bad as cold turkey. I , still have a lot of Watson 10/325's Perc's left which is all I , can get now , and does anybody have any advice on how long you should wean, and will it help you to avoid the major wd's? Also, is there any other meds that would help, I do not agree with methadone , and refuse to ever try those again. I do not want to take any more pain med's ever again long term, you just become a slave to them ,YEAH LIFE SEEMS BETTER , ON THE OXY'S AND i CAN GO TO THE PARK WITH MY KIDS, AND ACTUALLY RUN AROUND A BIT AND KICK THE BALL TO THEM AND SUCH, AND I,m LIKE WHAT PAIN IN MY KNEE? I will consider knee replacement surgery first before I ever get stuck on pain meds again ,my resolve on this way strong, and maybe a few days of pain med's after the knee surgery only. I, cant go to a rehab if I can help it, I need to detox from this myself, is it better to wean , or taper down from the 2-3 oxy 80's a day,or just flush everything and quit ct? I really am scared, I do not want to get so sick that I have to go to a hosp. or some inpatient facility , any help would appreciated, many thanks. Have you asked your doc
Have you asked your doc about Suboxone? I was using (abusing) the Fentanyl patches for about 4 years. The doc Rx'd the 100mcg's to wear 1 every 3 days and change to a new patch. Well, I was wearing 2 patches and I was getting to the point (obviously) where I was running out early and then the anxiety would kick in because I knew I was going to run out early. Anyway, to make a long story short, I went to my Therapist 2 days ago who is also an addictionologist and confessed EVERYTHING to her. She started me on the Suboxone and let me tell you 1 hour after my first dose, the w/d's were gone. I have not had 1 craving or any sign of w/d since I went to her office Friday morning sick as a dog and feeling like I was going to die. I have noticed a slight headache but she said that will stop after about a week on the Suboxone. I just got so sick & tired of having so much anxiety about where my next patch was coming from and that the doc could cut me off at any time. Sorry so long winded but Suboxone is the best thing I have ever done for myself. My husband and kids are very happy that I did this and so am I. Also, my pain is ok and I still feel it but it is tolerable. I go back to my Therapist tomorrow morning to get my 30 day supply and to see how I did over the weekend. Colorform: ask your doc about the Suboxone and see what he/she says. It sure beats sitting in rehab (that I've done 3 times already.) Good luck to you and keep us posted. ---chuck---i second the idea
---chuck---i second the idea of cold turkey, first WEEK is really hard, everything will annoy you/bother you, take some hydroxizine to takea little edge off,the thing is once you get over the feinding, you cant ever take a pain pill again,or you WILL go back to a habit, even though ive never tried suboxone because i take percocet for lower back pain,i have had to quit before, and i think its a cycle drug that could lead you back to using because its still a drug with opiates i believe, try to quit the old fashion way, smoke your ciggs, drink your coffee,go to meetings etc.if you really wat to quit this is the best way in my opinion Best way to detox from oxycontin oxycodone
i tried alot of diffirent ways to detox from oxy's cold turkey with other pain medicine amd i was taking about close to 200mg a day so without the med's it was like dying sleeping all day no energy, not wating to eat or drink anything oe do anything for that matter, and having a full time job and trying to come off the med's is impossible its not an overnight thing. I finally found a doctor threw an old friend that had the same problem and had got off the med's. its not a rehab program its outpatient and noone even has to know about it. the medicine is called suboxone and it works wonders i went from taking all that oxy to taking 2 suboxone a day one every 12 hours 8mg to start and within a month an a half i was off the med's completely. insurance doesnt cover the doctors visits but will cover the med's which in my case did so only 85 once every 2 weeks for doc visits. i tried alot of things and i think without the suboxone i would still to this day be taking the oxy's its been 4 months and still clean Your first IDea sounds okay
Your first IDea sounds okay to me,not rediculous(except "girl") I have often used perc and vics to wean down from an oxy and methadone habit and it can work quite well. Oxycontin is slightly different for those abusing it in certain ways. Benzodiazapines seem to help a good deal, as well as clonodine. I would just bite the bullet, wean and get on with it, screw the suboxone and the methadone which are both stronger by the way. Good luck Check with a licensed MD before you take any suggestions! quitin loratabs cold turkey
first off im new to the site an would like to say hi ... Ive been tryin to quit cold turkey an as yall allready no its no picnic. this was my second day an i had to have one an did but i still want to quit just need support an advise thanks (edited) quiting lortab
Great job on fighting temptation on 8/30. I hope you're doing ok. You will slip even if you're careful. One thing you can be thankful for though is that you're catching it with Lortabs instead of some of the other montsters that many people "graduate" to. Not to minialize your prob at all, an addiction is an addictino is an addiciton and they are all mothers. Much love. RE: Detoxing Oxycodone with Vicodin, Darvocet, Codein
I've been there - a few years ago after back surgery. I had to wean off of approx. 200mg of Oxycontin daily. My doc weaned me down, but STILL I had issues at the end (I'll detail in a minute). Weaning down is DEFINITELY better than cold-turkey if you have the option. I had my husband hold my pills for me and give them to me so I wouldn't end up doing it cold turkey... I was glad he was in control, because after being on such a large amount of Oxy for over a year, I needed someone with a clear head to make me adhere to a weaning schedule - ya know? The other response to your post was correct. No matter what, you will sweat, you will need to be near a bathroom for a while, and sometimes QUICK access to a bathroom is necessary, but all of the "usual" side affects DO eventually subside. HOWEVER... The reason for MY commenting is to add one thing that NO one warned me about before I started weaning off of Oxycontin... LEG JITTERS My doctor didn't even me about them... Even after all the "regular" withdrawal symptoms disappeared, I still had what I call Leg Jitters or Restless Leg Syndrome. This only happened when I was tired and trying to sleep. It made me NUTS! LOL I tried, unsuccessfully, to handle this by myself... IF you have the option or opportunity to work with a doc or have access to a doctor, I recommend the following: Once I gave up trying to get over this by myself, I called my doc who was weaning me, and she prescribed Benzodiazapine, which IMMEDIATELY did the trick! I used that for approximately a week, and once I had used up all of it, I had no more restless leg syndrome! :) Just something you might keep in mind. Good luck to you - and just remember that a LOT of people have gone through it, and I'll bet there are people here who can sympathize and people to lean on if you need a friendly word :) Deb of Youngstown, Ohio *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Sometimes I lie awake at night and ask, 'Where have I gone wrong???'Then a voice says to me, 'This is going to take more than one night...'” |
