fibromyalgia

I am already taking Oxycontin 40 and Lora-tab 10 for breakthrough pain and I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I already have a disease called scleroderma which is similar to lupus( its in the same family as rheumatoid arthritis) I am also taking klonopin, for depression and anxiety, but this may sound strange it seems like they help with the pain. But the pain has been bad the last couple of months and that s when the Dr wrote me the OCs. They help alot more than Lora-tabs alone but the Dr's seem to think that when the pain became excruciating was when the fibromyalgia began. I have not seen my family Dr since my diagnosis, and I fear if I ask for something stronger. I have been in a great deal of pain the past couple mos. but I told him that the pills were helping alot so that I wouldn't look like a "druggie" any suggestions on how to approach him? And is there a much stronger mg of oxys? Also is the klonopin thing in my head or does it really help with my muscles? or should i ask for a muscle relaxer? Sorry about all the questions but I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

There are two more steps up

There are two more steps up in oxycontin doseage...60mg and 80mg. Also most doctors are aware that it is natural to build up tolerance so if you have been on the 40mg for a couple months maybe it is time he bumps you up to the 60mg  Klonopin is in the same drug class as valium which is prescribed as a muscle relaxer andcould reduce pain although i dont know much about your specific conditions to know if it would help. I do know that me mother has fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis and is prescribed muscle relaxers along with pain medication and a bunch of other things so I would guess that the klonopin would help a little bit due to its muscle relaxing properties.

Klonapin is not an

Klonapin is not an antidepressant.  Have you tried a real antidepressant?  Cymbalta is an antidepressant that is also FDA approved for treatment of chronic pain, but others may also work well.  Are you currently taking lyrica or neurontin?  Is your scleraderma being treated?  You doctor will probably be more receptive to these approaches to treatment as opposed to increasing your narcotic pain reliever.

fibromyalgia and morphine

hi mendy, I've had fibro 8yrs, many battles over the wrong drugs finally got me ms contin 100 a slow release (that's the ms part) morphine. I have three hundred a day and that's usually enough to reduce pain to something I can deal with.  It's not perfect but side effects are min, just eat more fruit, drink water and use salt soon your body gets used to the drying effect (ie constipation) and yr ok. there's no sleepiness, nausea etc. a nearly perfect treatment.  AntiDs did'nt help me because despite all I'm happy and grateful for all the good, but some people find they help w. the pain.  I started out w. smaller mg ie. 30 and 60 but it was'nt enough and too many little pills were involved. 100 is just simpler and you do build a tolerance quickly so you won't od.  You don't get "high" or happy and will probably have some pain but move up in mg and maybe use  a muscle relaxer sometimes (they knock you out), and life should get easier. Then you can move around, walk, mayber exercie, do a bit of yoga and start to feel better    good luck!

the MS does not mean it is

the MS does not mean it is slow release....the MS stands for morphine sulfate....it is the Contin which is short for continuous which means the extended release. also the 100mg dont make you "high" because you started with the 30 then 60 and built up a tolerance. and also you can OD on anything if you take a large dose without building a tolerance. Also i dont understand how you say that the 30 and 60mg were too many little pills as you should have started taking the 30's then the 60's and now hundreds....unless your saying you were being prescribed the 30 and 60 at the same time which is rather stupid when ur paying two prescription fees for a total of 90mg dose when you should have just been at the 100.

Mum,My ex sho had never

Mum,My ex sho had never taken a narcotic in her life (other than in the hospital) also has this disease. I thought it quite odd that her doctor also had the disease. She told the doctor she had never taken narcotics and she was prescibed 60 mg of methadone daily. I was not happy at that time for her  being prescribed that amount and as I thought she`she did was sleep. She would get up and last 10 minutes and the right back to sleep. I had to hire a friend in the neighborhood to watch the 2 youngest until I got back to from work. I do know it is a terrible disease but the doctor said this medicine would help her. Well it did because all she did was sleep. I am glad after 2 months she was RX'd 5 mg oxycodone (I forget the amount) and everything got back to normal. Best of luck for I saw firsthand how this disease worksCool
