Can someone please help me?

Hi everyone.

I just joined, but I have many questions.

To start with...

I have been struggled with depression for 11 years now.

About a year ago, I was talking to my friend about it.

She was taking Adderall and told me how it helped her.

She told me to try it and I did.

I just needed something to for once get me out of the cloud hanging over me everyday.

I was desperate.

I took it and felt amazing for the 1st time since I could remember.

That was the end of that.

It's now a year later, and I am still struggling with my depression heavily.

I remembered my past experience with that pill.

I got on the subject about it with a different friend of mine.

She said her boyfriend gets them, so I could buy some from him if I wanted.

(In case you are wondering, I have no medical insurance, or I would just go to the doctor about all this.)

I bought 1 and took it today, and I finally got relief again.

I felt so great and I had to make sure that I could feel it all the time.

Long story short, I ended up buying 15 more from him.

So here's where a bunch of my questions come in...

1. Something tells me that he tampered with them, because these are cloudy on the clear part of the capsule. Unless I am just paranoid, I'm pretty sure the 1st pill I bought was not like that.

2. I really don't know too much about it (Adderall XR 30 mg.), other than the little tid bits I found on here. I would like to know as much about it as I could.

3. He gave me some Mylan A1 (He called them something else). He said they would help me sleep because I took the Adderall too late in the day to go to sleep tonight. Plus, because of my depression I don't sleep at night, so I have to take sleeping pills normally anyways. I would like to know as much as I could about these also.

4. Does anyone know of any other way I could go about all these pill problems and such? As I mentioned earlier, I have no medical insurance?

Basically what it all comes down to is after reading my post if you have ANY comments whatsoever, please, please let me know. I appreciate it very much!

I don't have much to say on

I don't have much to say on this other than what you are doing is both illegal, and unsafe.

I know of certain situations where a patient has been treated with a stimulant due to their inability to "get going" in the day. However, the stimulant I see most frequently prescribed for this is either Provigil, or low dose Adderall.

Just be careful. You are not really treating your depression by taking a stimulant. It is simply a substance that, for you, makes you feel better because of a side effect such as an exaggerated sense of well-being. Sooner or later, your body will get used to this dosage, and you will end up in a pretty bad situation. Amphetamines are notoriously hard to quit (from what I have read, they have the highest relapse rate of all controlled substances).

Again, be careful. You'll go from being depressed, to being depressed and addicted to a substance. Then your depression will only be magnified when you can not get your hands on your drug of choice.

In short, I think what you are doing is a bad idea. But, that's just me. Others may disagree. Whatever I say is not going to change anything, so do whatever you feel is best. It's your life.  I just wanted to tell you I think you are getting into more trouble than you realize.

Regards,

I guess that is one of the

I guess that is one of the points that I was trying to make.

I know what I am doing is illegal and unsafe.

I don't want to do it but I feel like I have no other options.

Hence, why I came here.

Would you say that Provigil is safer than Adderall?

Do you know how I could get it without medical insurance?

Adderal is a stimulant

Adderal is a stimulant amphetamine. Since it is an amphetamine it works on dopamine and serotonin (the bodies pleasure chemicals). So of course it is going to make you feel euphoric and non depressed. It isnt fixing your depression just temporarily masking it. Adderal is also addicting and will cause withdrawals if you stop taking it suddenly. Also I have found through personal experience that self medicating your depression with pills that "make you feel good" is not going to help at all in the long run because once you come off of it you feel worse than you did originaly.

The mylan A1 was a generic xanax pill. It is a benzodiazepine in the same class as valium and klonopin. It is a sedative so yeah it will help you come off of the stimulant and get some sleep.

Also you always have other options....since you build up a tolerance you are eventually going to need more and more of the adderall and the money you are spending on the pills you could just go to the doc and get on an antidepressant. An office visit cant be more than 150 bucks plus prescription cost....and in my eyes curing severe depression is worth any money that it costs even if you have to get an extra job...dont take the easy way out and buy amphetamines it will just hurt you in the long run.

I never can quite understand

I never can quite understand this type of reasoning.  How much does it cost to illegally buy adderall 20mg?  Is it that much less expensive than going to a doctor for a legal and appropriate antidepressant.  What are you going to do when you get busted for illegal drug use, and you loose custody of your child?

If you do not qualify for medicaid and do not have insurance, look at www.PPARX.org.  Many antidepressants and other meds provided free of charge by the drug companies to modest income people without insurance.  Sometimes stimulants like adderall are prescribed for depression, but usually not as a single agent and self medication is never a good idea.  Most counties have somthing called "community mental health" programs which offer free or low cost psychiatric care.  Start by calling your county health department which is listed in your phone book under county government offices.

Not qualifying for medicaid is a good thing!!!

Hello

Hello Prblmgrl.............Are you giving the Antidepressants a good 4-6 weeks to build up in your system? Taking just 1 or 2 pills won't automatically make you feel better. It's strange that not 1 of the antidepressants worked for you. Just give them a chance. Have you tried the new one Cymbalta? I've heard/read that it is really effective in treating pain and depression. Just Google the Health Dept in your city and they will probably be able to help you. Don't get into taking some one else's Adderall. My daughter was on that and when her doc took her off due to too much weight loss, the w/d's were bad.

Be careful & good luck...............KK

Everyone reacts differently to anti-depressants.

 Quick comment:

Its actually not that strange if the anti depressants didn't work. We all react differently do anti-depressants, due to the nature of the depression and our own chemical make up. What worked for one person won't work for another. That has been well established.

There are also a couple

There are also a couple different types of antidepressants SSRI's, norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors and tricyclics and thats all i know offhand there may be more. I know my mom is on a combination of effexor and cymbalta although i think the cymbalta is primarily for pain although deffinitely is an antidepressant. Either way i started self medicating my depression years ago with opiates and even minor amphetamine use when i couldnt get opiates and it still leads to the same thing....rising tolerance dependecy addiction and eventually you are spending almost all your money for pills just to temporarily relieve depression.just because you tried one or two antidepressants doesnt mean u tried all the different classes and also as said above they do take 4-6 weeks to even start working.

I know depression is a very hard problem for thousand's of people. It is extremely dangerous for you to be self medicating to begin with. My dear PrblmGrl, you are putting yourself on the chopping block, it is so dang dangerous to obtain "Meds" in the manner you are -you have no idea what you are taking. Not having any medical insurance stinks, it does not make it okay for you to seek illegal drugs. I am not trying to make you feel bad, but what if you were arrested? You need to get help.Try the bureau of the department of public health, or go to your county health department and try to get some help. There are many programs that help women;women, single moms that are in dire circumstances. One program that is in many states is called "Turning Point" and that one has many different kinds of programs that have helped alot of women.

It is so important for a person whom has depression to be properly diagnosed, What one person takes for depression could be deliterious to another person. I hope you get help for your depression, I wish you the best of luck for you and your child.

I also have had trials of as

I also have had trials of as many as 10 plus different depression meds until I found the one that worked. Cymbalta was the winner for me. It, with a combination of prescribed Alprazolam at a low dose helped my many years of pain, and depression. As stated above, Do Not Self Medicate, with some one else's meds. You may end up not being there for you two wonderful kids. Save the money you are paying for the illegal meds, and get on the right track. Just my two cents. I've been where your at.

yeah u must of been given a

yeah u must of been given a stimulant or even a narcotic? because taking one antidepressant will do NOTHING for you. it takes weeks to see the results of antidepressants and then again sometimes you will see no results. ive been on a few types of antidepressants and some are horrible. i know ill never go on effexor again. im also glad i live in canada where doctors visits are covrvered by medicare, theres not much thats not covered..... watch sicko and you'll know what i mean. i thought canada was good. the UK u get meds for free if you cant pay for it!

PrblmGrl: What to do when you don't have insurance:

The first thing you can do is look on the internet for any free clinics in your area. Your local Dept of Mental Hygiene may be a good place to start. I have a friend who was suffering from depression and found a great nurse practicioner who got her history and symptoms and started her on something right away. I'm not sure if it is all free or if you are expected to pay something based on your financial situation. However, it will get you on your way to dealing with your depression and also probably offer some sort of Talk Therapy in addition to the meds. Good Luck and let me know how you make out.

Suggestions

PLEASE Listen to these good people.I lost my sister at age 45 from what you are doing and she left 2 boys with no mother. If need be, go to the local ER and explain your situation. They can not turn you away and they have social workers as well as staff MD's who can help you. If you have 2 children and have 2 jobs, I would look into State Assistence, and also All hospitals have clinics that you can go to for free or on a sliding scale.PLEASE DO NOT WAIT.It breaks my heart to hear a story like yours, It does not have to be this way. It will take a bit of footwork but I think you know its all worth it in the long run. You owe it to yourself and your two beautiful children to get the help you need and deserve. Please keep us posted You will be in my thoughts and prayers. All The Best, Nancie
