detox at hometryin to free myself from a deadly addiction to pain pills open to any help i'm am the mother of five married to my first love who has joined me in addiction (edited) ( categories: Chronic Pain and Pain Management )
If I may ask what type of
If I may ask what type of painkillers are you taking and how many a day and what milligram are you taking. That makes a big difference in the way that you could "detox" yourself. What I reccommend is slowly tapering yourself down from the amount that you are taking. Say you are taking 10 pills a day of what ever strengh, try taking 2 in the morning say about an hour after you wake up. Then take 2 in the middle of the day and 2 at night. Or you could take 1 pill in the morning and another pill every 3 hours so that your overall intake of pills is less. Keep reducing the amount of pills you take per day every week. This way you will avoid withdrawls and be able to slowly ween yourself down. If you want to detox at home
If you want to detox at home you only really have a couple of options. You can always go cold turkey and just hold it together through the withdrawals. You could taper down slowly by a small increment every day or two or you could try to locate a longer acting med like methadone or suboxone that you can dose once daily and then slowly reduce the mg you take per day. When i like to taper myself i like to switch to suboxone and do a taper lasting no more than 10-14 days taking just enough to stop withdrawals but not everyone has access to suboxone or methadone. I also like switching to the once a daily longer acting meds for the taper like suboxone or methadone because it gets you out of the habit of taking pills all day yet keeps you out of withdrawal. The title of the thread was
The title of the thread was detox at home.... if a person wasnt trying to do it at home you can always try suboxone, methadone, or a rapid detox facility. but since the OP said detox at home.....those are out of the question, as you have to go somewhere and seek help to be put on those and that isnt at home. detoxing @ home
Rocky ride my friend
First thing you do is wash your sheets with some good smelling detergent. You are going to spend alot of time in bed. It is really a miserable time so you don't want to smell dirty sheets for the next week or two. Get some movies or books and lock yourself away if possible. Try and get up and move occasionally and stretch, take hot shower. Don't eat alot of red meat it makes stomach cramps worse. Drink some green tea. Keep a positive attitude and hang in there it will get better it takes some time. I wish you the best of luck. I have been ther many times. Priester
Question
Are you prescribed the pain meds from a doctor? If you are there is no reason you have to suffer. If you are honest with him or her I am pretty sure they will help you with your detox to make it as comfortable as possible. If you are on any type of benxos I really suggest that you do not do home detox as you could have a seizure from stopping suddenly. If it gets really uncomfortable, you can always go to your local ER. Most hospitals have a detox floor and will help you out with meds to make it easier and also therapy and meetings to help you along.Do you have any support systems , such as friends, relatives that could be of some help?I have not gone through it myself, but I know people who have and I give them a lot of credit. Please take care of yourself and keep us posted as to how you are doing.I worked in a Hospital when I was working so if you want to talk please feel to private message me.Best of Luck, Nancie detox at home
I agreeeeeeee.....Rocky ride. do all Priester says except get to ready to spend time on toilet and do try to eat something, also agree with red meet. Take multivitamins everyday. Get ready fir those sheets and if you think you need to go to ER and be honest. Everything should be confidential, maybe. you are taking alot now so you might want to cut back every 2 days instead of one...if you choose to go thaat wy. Im just talking my experience only by mistake. Thought I could dose my self. Didnt work. I follow ONLY my pain docs ride now and life is a little better but worth not going thru that anymore. GOOD LUCK!!!! |
