Am glad methadone has helped you, but isnt methatdone a narcotic as well.  If you are going up 5 mg a week I believe that your addiction is not going to get better unless you are able to ween down on the amount you are taking.  You made the right decision to obtain the medicine legally but you are not helping your addiction much by upping your dosage every week.  Try staying at the same level that you are on now and instead of going up 5 mg next week stay and the same level.  Then the following week try to lower the dosage to 5 mg less. and so on until you get to a very low dose.  That my two sense on the subject

Without a doubt methadone has helped so many that not. I cannot count the number of clients I had who praised the Methadone maintanence program,as a social worker, allowing them to work,.raise a family, and stay away from  illicit drugs.

I have to agree with spence and disagree with you sissy.  Although I believe methadone is a better alternative to obtaining illicit drugs, it is an extremely powerful full opiate agonist with morphine like qualities.  Methadone clinics are money pits and they want to keep you on methadone for this reason.  It makes no sense to keep raising the dose, as this is a never ending process as there is no ceiling limit on tolerance to opiates.  I cant even imagine the dose you must be on after 11 years.  I think if you really want to be clean then you need to slowly wean down as spence said and eventually trully become clean by being opiate free.  If you have legitimate pain issues and addiction issues then you may want to talk to a doctor about getting a prescription to methadone.  Methadone has an extremely long half-life but once a day dosing is for MMT and not pain.  When I was prescibed methadone I would take it once in the morning and then again at night.  This works better IMO than once a day dosing for both pain and for maintainance.

Dear Jccj300,I too feel like i will be on methadone for life, but a healthy productive life is much better than the life we were living. Hang in there things will only get better. For the record sissy, I am very informed.  I think it is wonderful that you are what you consider to be clean.  You go to one of the few clinics that may not be a money pit, not all are so fortunate.  You also go to a cheap clinic which is why they don't have counselours which are a major component to recovery.  The average clinic costs usually an inital couple hundred dollars and then about 13 dollars a day for your dose.  Yes this is nothing compared to someone spending hundreds of dollars a day to get high.  And lets see so far they have made 20x12x11=2,640 plus what you initially paid to get in. I don't know your age but if you plan to go for life it is going to be a couple more grand.  If it is a sliding scale shouldn't the price "slide" i.e. not always be the same? The original poster is a male for one and does have pain issues for two.  This is why I suggested a doctor that deals with addiction as well.  You are new here and If you think I am uniformed on methadone just track my postings for the last few years and you will see I know more about this drug than any person in this forum.  Maybe you didn't notice the picture thats comes with all my posts.  I am very sorry that you have had cancer twice possibly not your fault.  And I am sorry you have hep C but I know how this virus is caught as well as you do.  When I went to a methadone clinic and they said we are going to raise your dose and I said that's rediculous, I came here to get clean not more strung out.  You are on a fairly low dose, there are many people who take upwards of 200mg in a dose and claim to not get euphoria and as a person with experience with this drug I know this is not true.  FYI I am not an idiot.  I know they have MD's and nurses at methadone clinics, they also have MD's nurses in hospitals and schools.  My one question is you say 35ml of methadone which doesn't tell me anything(I know how uninformed I am) since that could be 1mg of methadone or 200mg per 35ml.  I assume you mean 35mg.  Please don't say it is always a one to one ratio everywhere.  If you understand you will be on methadone for life and that methadone is a synthetic morphine substitute synthesized by a german scientist in anticipation for morphine shortages during WWII and is a full opiate agonist just like oxycodone and diamorphine and is extremely addictive then I wish you all the best, and I am glad it has helped you with your family.  To the Original Poster I do understand what you are going thru and as I said before MMT is a much better alternative than illicit drug use.  I wish you nothing but luck in your recovery.

You def. have the right to that info and I would just be very firm with them and if you have to you could subpena the records.  Clinics are money pits and try to keep people with just old addictions hooked as long as they can, thats why I keep recommending a doc who maybe also deals with addiction issues.  The whole thing with the early morning dosing or your sol is very dumb in my opinion.  Even with the long half life which varies quite a bit and you may have fast metabolism by the time you go to bed you aren't going to be sleeping well.  When I was prescribed 80mg a day I would usually take 40 when I got up or was about to get up and 40 at night and it was great, but even with that and 6mg of xanax a day I couldn't keep from relasping.  As I said I wish you the best and hope you can get to a doctor that can help you, because having to go to a clinic everyday is just a pain, esp. when a months supply of methadose costs about 25 bucks without insurance.  Good luck with everything if you have any real specific or personal questions shoot me a PM and I'll try to help the best I can.  I like that "opiate ABUSE free" very accurate.  Three months today congradulations.

King, your just to tuff a nut to crack! First of all i never called you an idiot! & i used the wrong suffix mg, ml, i never claimed to be an expert on anything, i just know what's worked for me! Not very nice of you to try to undermine  the treatment plan i'm on. Let's say my clinic is inexpensive, not CHEAP. My clinic has a full staff of accredited counselors & I attend weekly groups & a one on one with my counselor monthly. As far as you bieng the most informed re: methadone i'd have to give that to Mdonia. The amount of your posts means nada to me it's the content that counts. I'm done going back & forth, just a waste of energy.P.S. what the heck does the picture next to your post have to do with anything!!!!!!!!! One thing i feel i'm iinformed on, you mentioned doing xanax with methadone. Forshame!!

No offense sissy but I find that very hard to believe.  I quote "and now diagnosed with Hep C."  1982 was 26 years ago, I find it hard to believe you have had hep c for 26 years without ever finding out until recently.  Not to mention blood is checked for everything, not to say it is an impossibility because it does happen.  I repetedly said that I am happy for both you and the OP that methadone has helped you.  As for Mdonia, I have a Private message he sent to me asking for my help on methadone questions because he was told by various other posters that I am very informed on the subject.  I would foward it to you but that would be a breach of confidence.  But if he was around lately I'm sure he would be glad to verify this.  I don't claim to know everything sissy, but I will say again that I know an extreme amount about methadose.  The picture is of 40mg methadone wafers if you couldn't figure that out.  I was prescribed methadose and xanax by the same doctor and although it can be a fatal combo so can a lot of other drugs that are prescibed in combination.  If you know so much about M'donia's posts you would know he takes clonazepam as well as 195mg of methadone in one dose, which would probably kill about 99.9 percent of the population.  These are only dangerous interactions when abused or used by people who are opiate or benzodiazapine naive.  You said your clinic didn't have counselors and not all are so lucky, yada yada.  I am not here to argue or pass judgement on anyone, I understand opiate addiction, I believe it is a brain disease caused by many factors including genetics.  I get along with just about every person on this site and many have come to me with questions about methadone.  Again I am glad you are opiate ABUSE free but to say you are clean is inaccurate, that would mean you are free of all foreign substances and you are not.

Of course it makes more sense to save that money but let the guy(originally i interpeted a female poster excuuuuuuse me) let him reap some benefits from the hard work he's done to stay "opiate abuse free"
