I am not a Dr. I just play one on tv. Spence,Nearly all of the
Spence, Nearly all of the name brand products can be found in the Common Imprint section. I'll never understand your obsession with name brand only. I hate to think that you are becoming preoccupied with the name brand narcotics to the point of addiction. Be careful. You're taking meds for a short term injury, not chronic pain. Sooner or later you are going to be cut-off. Regards, gtrplayer As far as Walgreens or Rite
As far as Walgreens or Rite Aid, I would choose Rite Aid personally..but better still, I would search out a good mom & pop pharmacy first, you might do better on the price. Those are good points to keep in mind too that gtrplayer mentioned, Spence. Unless you have a chronic painful condition that requires ongoing narcotic meds, your dr. is going to draw the line at some point and say whoa, always good to keep that in mind, and maybe start tapering if you can ahead of time, makes it easier when the day comes that you can't refill. brand name drugs
Just wanted to say that my opinion on brand name versus generic drugs is that in some cases there is a difference in generic drugs. I was taking an extended release pain medicine and the doc had ordered generic and when I took the generic I had a bad reaction because of a "filler" that the generic manufacturer used. I was told by my pharmacist and doc that I should never take the generic brand of that medicine again because different manufacturers use different "ingredients" I now take the brand name and have never had a problem. Just my opinion and I wondered if anyone else had experienced a reaction to a generic drug but had no reaction to the brand name. Have a great day everyone Thanks guys for your input
Thanks guys for your input it is always appreciated. I would like to think that I am not additcted yet more excited that a pill can bring such relief to pain. I do understand that at a point in time I will have to ween myself off. By no way am I going to taper now. My pain has increased since starting my exercies everyday. It should get better in about a week or two so I should be on narcotics for say 3 more weeks in total. For my last prescription I'll tell my doctor to fill the lortab 5/500 instead of the percocet. That should help me taper better. As for now I do not intend to decrease my dosage of about 4 per day until I am completely pain free. I am taking advantage of a good thing but thanks for your concern. Gtrplayer maybe you are mistaking my enthusiasm for addition. I see how that could happen but I do intend to taper in about 3 weeks and shoulder surgery isnt the fastest type of surgery to recover from either. (edited by admin) I just wanted to post my
I just wanted to post my personal opinion and say that if youa re only taking 20mg of oxycodone per day i wouldnt really worry about a taper at all because the withdrawals wont be that bad at all. You might just feel like you have a cold for a few days. I have stopped cold turkey from 20-30mg and just felt like i had a cold. Stopping a habit cold turkey of over 100-150mg oxycodone per day will make you feel like your dieing.but for only 20mg oycodone i wouldnt even worry about withdrawals...perhaps go to 10mg for two days then stop. Also i do agree with gtrplayer that an obsesion with getting brand name can lead to addiction. i am not saying you are addicted....but just be careful (edited by admin) Pain Free
Hey spencej6, I am really glad that you are doing well with your physical therapy; and I know that the therapy can be challenging for each individual. I know that it (p.t.) is so important for you to heal. Listen to your Doc & therapist for the do's and don'ts - I know you already know this Im really hoping that this
Im really hoping that this surgery will help me live a pain free life as far as my right shoulder is concerned. It may happen that a couple years from now I could have problems with it again. I'm doing a lot of phsical therapy right now and I can tell that my shoulder has gained a lot more range of motion. For all you shoulder sufferers out there get an MRI and check if you have impingement. I had no idea thats what I had before going to this doctor. I was just expection him to say that everyting looked normal. Impingement is treatable and from my experience surgery was a life saver. I am able to lay my arm by my side and have it feel normal. I still am experiencing a lot of pain due to my exercises that I have to do now and will continue to do along with physical therapy for an additional 2 months. I dont want to get addicted to percocets I just want to have relief from pain while I'm recovering. I am starting to take more again like tonight I took 35 milligrams just to get the same effect when I used to take like 20. Im afraid that I'm beginning to build a tolerance to oxycodone. I've been on it for a month solid now averageing about 30 milligrams a day. I am positive that I can stop using it but I need it right now. Icing alone and ibuprofin are not enough to ease the pain after my exersises. I see myself taking percs for another 3 weeks so I may need you alls advice when I'm ready to quit. Thanks everyone. spence
you dont mean you took 35 mg at one time do you...since you are taking perc 5s .... that would be seven tablets and you have been saying you are taking 3-4 a day 15 mg to 20 mg ... please take as directed ...it is a terrible road to go down (being addicted to pain meds) and we dont want you heading there!!!
Nascar #88 GO JR!! Well I have to say that
Well I have to say that addition is very hard to explain. Is one addictied to a medication when 2 pills no longer work and has to take 2 and 1/2 to get the same relief. I think that this is more of a tolerance issue than an addition. I have never gone to the streets to obtain my medication and am getting a refill from my doctor who has talked to me about my pain and understands how long it takes to recover from shoulder surgery. I like trying new things, for instance trying the brand name product which is more costly but could be a better quality product. I have tried 10 pills so far and it has been 3 and a half days. I took 7 the first day which was much more than I normally take but I was in pain after a long physicial therapy session. Yesturday I took zero and I did start feeling withdrawls. I couldnt sleep and when I did I had nightmares and sweat alot in my sleep. I woke up this morning with diarreah and I think that is becasue opiates constipate me and when I dont take them at all for a day it gives my body time to get rid of the waste that has built up. Addition and tollerance are different things and In my opinion I am starting to build tollerance to my medicine. There deffinitely is a
There deffinitely is a difference between dependence and addiction and there is also a difference between abusing a medicine and full blown addiction. Some people can abuse a medication once and never do it again unlike an addiction. Also just because your getting them from a doctor and not the streets doesnt mean that you are not addicted or abusing them. No matter what you think if the prescriptions says to take 4 per day max and you took 7.....that is abuse as you are not listening to the doctor. I personally would have done the exact same thing as you if it was warranted by your level of pain as you probably have built up a tolerance already to some degree. Well the prescription says
Well the prescription says take 1-2 pills every 4-6 hours. So I dont know where you got 4 per day max. You must have misunderstood what I said. I average about 4 a day, I could take 8 a day and that would be legitamate. I havent had to take that many but my directions on the bottle would warrant that if need be. my point about having a prescription was that what I am doing is legal, but I do agree with your point about abusing them with or without a prescription. I would like to think that Im not abusing them because it says take 1-2 every 4-6 hours and I dont average about half that amount even though my tolerance has gone up. I would like to comment on how the endo brand has lasted a true 4 hours when the watson brand lasts about 2 hours. I am not bias in my conclusion becasue I have no favorite in either one of them. I have noticed that the endo brand lasts longer. Maybe its due to the different fillers which maybe are harder to break down which in turn releases the medicine slower. What is your opinion on this.
