Oxycodone Er to Morphine ER

I was supposed to switch from Oxycodone Er generic to Morphine Er generic about 3 months ago but my doctor allowed me to fill the Oxycodoen ER's until a certain branch of my pharmacy were out of them. That time is now because  my Medicare D plan does not fill brand name med's of any type. I am quite nervous because I do not know how many Morphine ER generic's I will have written to me. If there is anyone that has been through what I am about to do this week or if they have gone from Morphine Er to Oxy ER's any input would be helpful. I do know that every person is different when it comes down to med's but I would just like to know what I may be in for Thankx

dylan, ive been on mthadone,

dylan, ive been on mthadone, oxycodone ir 30's, and also generic MS contin for chronmic pain.  For ME, and IMHO, the MS contin 100 mg's are equal  to about 40 mg of oxycodone (IR)..  but of course the morphine Contin lasts longer.. Hope this helps some..

KIT Thankx. I am going to bring 2 or 3 conversion chart's that show the difference between the 2, not that it will matter, but my doc told me to if I wanted . Even some of the conversion chart's show different mg's between the 2. Well I appreciate it. I have been on the Oxycodone ER 's since they were put on the market sometime in the late 90's and only once was put on Duragesic by my doctor. I had  unwanted side effect's from the patch's so my Doc put me back on the Oxycodone Er's again.

In my personal experience i would say that 30-40mg oxycontin is equivalent ot 60mg Mscontin. Although i would deffinitely prefer the oxycontin because morphine makes mevery tired and lethargic.

My experience with morphin

My experience with morphin was not that good but I have never taken ms contin.  I have taken dilaudid and that didnt work for me.  It made me tired and I got no pain relief like the oxys would do.  I know dilaudid is hydromorphone but it is a derivative of morphine.

yes dilaudid is a derivative of morphine but I have tried morphine sulfate and hydrmorphone and the effects are very different for me at least. Morphine gives very poor pain relief and makes me very very tired and lethargic while the dilaudid gives me great pain relief and not as much sedation and lethargy as the morphine sulfate does....it isnt like hydrocodone which actually gives me a little energy but it just isnt as sedating as morphine sulfate is and gives a lot better relief at equivalent doses.
