compounded hydrocodone 15 and 30 medsI am wanting to talk to people who are on the compunded hydrocodone 15 and 30 pills without tylenol. I've heard they work quicker and last longer. My doc is thinking on switching me from lortab 10/500 to cut down on the tylenol. I am wondering if the pain relief is the same but just more intense because of the increase in the hydrocodone, and if it takes time for my body to adjust. I've tried perocet, but it tore up my stomach. I also was prescribed Kadian which did not agree with me. I am currently dealing with cronic pain due to cmc joint replacement in both thumbs, severe degenerative disc disease,in c4,c5,c6 and L4,L5 with bulging discs, and in need of total knee replacement, bone on bone in L knee, as well as problems with R knee as well. I really am in need of some good advice. (edited by mod2) ( categories: Chronic Pain and Pain Management )
I take the 15's
Rex, i got with my doc because I was concerned with the amount of tylenol going into my system and they switched me to the 15mg roxicodone (it has nothing but the pain relieving medication I want in it). It is an immediate release pill and I think it works quite well. I have found however there was a reason for the tylenol part...helps the medication to work "longer" So you may want to get some from your doc (I get the 800mg pills from my doc). You can now take your 15's and control whether or not you wish to include the tylenol. Thats my feelings/opinions on it. Macc, I think Rex is talking
Macc, I think Rex is talking about custom compounded 15mg or 30mg Hydrocodone not 15mg or 30mg Oxycodone that is in Roxicodone unless Rex is confused about what his doctor is talking about swithcing him to. Rex, I wouldnt expect a great amount of difference between a Lortab 10/500 and a compounded Hydrocodone 15mg capsule/tablet except the price. Have you ever taken one and a half of the Lortabs? That would give you a really accurate comparison, except you would get slightly more relief since the tylenol would be helping out. I wouldnt really expect it to last any longer either. The half life of Hydrocodone is only like 3-4 hours whether you take 10mg or 15mg, however it may feel a little stronger for those 3-4 hours. Another thing to take note of is a custom hydrocodone compound without tylenol is going to be a CII medication, which means no refills. So you could always try and ask for 1 1/2 Norco 10/325 ( would be 15mg hydrocodone and 487mg Tylenol per dose) before you make the switch to a CII to cut down on tylenol. I wanted to agree with the
I wanted to agree with the post about the roxicodone. The doctor tried them on percocet but the tylenol wasnt agreeing with them so roxicodone would be the next best thing. Compounding the hydrocodone is pointless unless the oxycodone and other schedule II meds dont work. They would both be schedule II although you can get roxicodone and dilaudid without compounding that is still schedule II and a lot cheaper. Also 15mg of hydrocodone would be equal to 10mg roxicodone so he can prescribe you two of the 5mg or just bump you to the 15mg and you wouldnt have to pay compounding costs yet still taking a schedule II either way. You said the kadian (morphine sulfate) didnt work so i would look into the roxicodone or dilaudid before you look into compounding hydrocodone. Also if your doctor tried kadian there are a whole slew of extended release meds out there like oxycontin, fentanyl, or methadone you can try but since you are on the hydrocodone i would assume he is trying to stick with immediate release meds so look into the roxicodone or dilaudid and if they fail then look into the compounded hydro. |
