PAIN! I am 21 years old and consider myself very healthy. I had a baby 7 months ago, but the wholetime I was pregnant I had problems with my sciatic nerve. The doctors said it was because I had such a small build and the weight from the pregnancy was causing pressure on the nerve. But, 7 months later, I'm still in pain. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas why this is happening to me? ( categories: Chronic Pain and Pain Management )
i am not a woman but

I am not a Dr. I just play one on tv. I am not a doctor but I know
I am not a doctor but I know my mom has herniated discs in her back that push on the sciatic nerve I believe so perhaps it does not even have to do with the pregnancy perhaps your back is messed up. This is just a suggestion though. You should probably see a doc who would know more about the sciatic nerve yes
frk is right...i have 2-3 herniatians that mess with the sciatic nerve in my left leg some....and how much does your baby weigh...when mine was small it was a pain to carry her everywhere...that might be a problem.

My son is 11 months old, he was born posterior, meaning he scrapped on my sciatica nerve. I never knew pain like that. I was in severe, not able to take more than a few steps at a time pain for over a month. If you continue to be in pain it maybe as the others have said, it may now be a serious issue. Like I said my pain subsided completely after about 6 weeks, not that all pain and damage is the same, but thats my experience. I hope you find relief!! PAIN
I have DDD among other things and I have an annular tear in one of my discs I have had sciatica since I was 27 and now am 54. Had 2 cervical surgeries but now within the next month or 2 I am having one on my lumbar area as it is now affecting my ability to walk, not to mention the constant pain which I am sure you know all about. The back pain is bad enough but the shooting pain down the leg, through the knee into the foot etc not to mention the numbness.Getting to the point now where the leg will give out on me and I have to grab something to stop from falling. Good thing I have lots of furniture LOL.I hope you find some help and relief soon,Best of Luck, Nancie falling
I as well have a problem with my left leg giving out. I will use a cane if i am out for awhile. My dr did not "prescribe" its use but when i explain that its happening he has nothing much to say..i have been thinking of looking for a different dr.

Did your MD give you a DX? My PM doc RX'd a cane for me and it does help but BOY does it make me feel old LOL .Is this MD your Pain Mgt doc? What DX did he give you? Just curious as some of these docs just do not make sense to me.Maybe a new doc could give you new insight as to what the problem is but if your anything like me, I hate to start over.I guess it depends on how long you have been with him and if he is meeting your needs.Sorry for all the questions, I just like to know what kinds of treatment others are receiving. Thanks, Nan re:
main problem is Arachnoiditis...affects both my legs..left the worse...DDD..arthritis...broken back at 18...my first pm dr i was with for 5 years till my insurance forced a switch..and i have been with the current one for about 4 years and 2 surgeries. did i say i am 41?
I am not a Dr. I just play one on tv. It is anatomicly impossible
It is anatomicly impossible for a fetus to "scrape" the sciatic nerve during pregnancy and birth. It is more likely what you are describing is piriformis syndrome. This is a highly commercial site but the info is pretty good: www.womenshealthcaretopics.com/preg_sciatica.htm Sciatica...or SI joint?
My problems with my back pain reemerged after giving birth to my 2nd child. It's way too long of a story for the time I have now, but I urge you to ask your doctor if the pain you are feeling can actually be coming from your SI joint (your sacro-iliac joint). We thought my pain was from my back too, but REAL long story short (e-mail me if you please), I had a severely damaged SI joint that went misdiagnosed for about 5 years. I am now paying the price on high doses of pain meds, and once I get some money saved up, I will be trying a procedure that my MD says is last resort - something called prolotherapy. Unfortunately it's not covered by insurance. Good luck, and make sure to ask your MD if you could have possibly damaged your SI joint during labor. |
