Suboxone

Could someone share with me their experience or knowledge of the length of time required between the use of suboxone and safely go back on regular opioids like the fentanyl patch, morphine, percocet, and oxycontin?  Unfortunately, the suboxone  is not (as I was told) effective in the management of chronic pain.  With that having been said, I direly need to either reverse this painful mistake to get back to the levels of analgesia (despite the opioid dependency) necessary to mediate the pain.  Or, find something that is compatible with the suboxone to mediate the breakthrough pain.  Herein, your experience and knowledge at this particular juncture... is priceless.  Thank you so much.  rickj

It is a fairly common

It is a fairly common misconception that you cant take anything when on suboxone. I personally have taken other opiates during and right after and it just makes them less effective until all the bupenorphine is out of your system but they do still work.

ive had the same

Experience as frk the opiates still work with the suboxone. IMO the time needed to withdraw from the suboxone and take a regular opiate such as oxycodone, morphine, fentenyl ect.... is about 40hrs (from personal experience)

suboxone

whoops

screwed that post up. Anyway, I am on 24 mg of suboxone daily, and I can tell you from experience that at any dose it is not an effective analgesic. You can can take other opiates in conjunction with it, but it is contraindicated because the sub, as a partial opiate, blocks the receptors and will reduce the effectiveness of any narcotic / opiod analgesic you take. I do not believe that there is any analgesic that can work in conjunction, as pain killers are effective equally to their addictive qualities! Propoxophine (darvocet) is one that doesn't interfere, but it is not very effective for pain relief. I would talk to your dr, and detox the sub (36-48 hrs) and go back to a stronger analgesic, dependancy be darned. We are talking about pain management here, and your doc has an obligation to treat your pain. Sub only seems to be effective for minor 1-5/6 pain, explain your position.

hope it works out!
