Do benzos expire? specifically xanax? I am wondering if they just wont have their effectiveness at all or if its actual more sinister than that and they wouldbe HARMFUL to take if expired.
Also, can they be taken along with a controlled painkiller such as an opiate or morphine based pain reliever?
thanks for the prompt reply and the link. Thats very good to know. Meds can get so expensive and sometimes who even looks at the expiration date....sometimes we just forget to look!? I was worried it might turn toxic but I suppose the govt regulators needs to make sure meds dont get on the market that could turn toxic...who knows, maybe not.
I was worried i took the wrong pill......dont plan on mixing my opoids with any benzos on purpose if I can help it! Not a big fan of the drug cocktail, albeit I realize its necessary for many individuals. No judging. Just trying to be safe.

Most tablets will be effective long after their expiration dates - probably 10 years or more. Incognito posted this link a few days ago:

Benzodiazepines might lose potency if not stored under ideal conditions or when they get really old, but they probably won't be toxic or dangerous.
You'll have to ask your doctor about using Xanax with opioids. Both kinds of medication slow down breathing, so this is probably not a good combination. But your doctor will know if it's safe for you.
