I've read and heard that Ambien will be going generic in October of 2006. Does anyone know exactly what date and who will be producing if anyone the generic version? Also, just because it can go generic in October does that mean we have to wait for them to start producing it or will it be available immediately? Any input would be greatly appreciated in this matter. Thanks
I show Mylan, Par, Teva, Bioavail, Caraco, Pliva, Roxane, and Synthon Pharm have all been tentavively approved to manufacture Zolpidem Tartate (Ambien). Mutual Pharm was just approved last week.
The patent in the United States on zolpidem is held by the French pharmaceutical corporation Sanofi-Aventis. The patent was due to expire in October 2006, but a six-month extension was granted, pushing the off-patent date to April 2007, so that Sanofi-Aventis can conduct further studies on the effects of zolpidem on children[3].
It used to be 7 years exclusivity usage, but looks like they whittled it down to 3 years.
Rawoody, You just ruined my day.
Better you know now than find out later. That's what we are here for to clarify things as best we can. Hopefully that's what Rawoody and Phisher did for you FRYLOCK.

i haven't heard an exact date but the same month as you. from two different pharmacies i have heard that it will be available for the consumer in Oct (i believe the beginning).
as for the manufactures... i am not sure but i would imagine there will be a couple in a short period of time.
