When removing coating, it almost seems that the slippery gel surface is only so deep, has anybody found that to be the case? I wonder if it is throughout. I take 40's and 20's. I would like to have the 20's for breakthrough pain. I don't like to take my Norcos for breakthrough because the tylenol is a killer.

Alot of people say that the extended release is throughout the pill, my theory is that it is only in the coating, I could be wrong. If you wanted the 20s to be instant release when you take the tablet bite it once or twice that should do the job. You could ask you doctor to prescibe you Roxicodone which is Oxycodone without Tylenol in 5mg 15mg and 30mg forms. A nurse actually told me to do this if I needed the medicine in a breakthrough form, so I guess it is ok in some instances to bite your tablet if needed. You tablet from Impax has gel fillers, and when crushed it doesn't fair as well as some of the other generics, so that might not be a good idea to completely crush your tablet. By gel fillers I mean inactive ingredients inside that particular generic that is thought to be an anti-abuse agent. Most of the other Oxycodone ER generics don't have gel fillers which make them easier to dare I say abuse, which I don't and will ever condone. I agree with you on the Tylenol figure, I don't see why doctors would argue with that, after all its your body. Good Luck
p.s. the coating is only on the outer of the tablet and doesn't run inside of the tablet.
My comments are my opinions based on the questions posted on this message board and should be taken purely as is and not as medical gospal. Please consult medical concerns with medical proffesionals. Thank You!
Da Pharma.. think on this... once the coating dissolves what prevents the entire pill from dissolving all at once, if the time release was only located in the coating? Biting a IMPAX pill would do no good as I understand that the "gel" is designed to prevent someone from releasing the product at one time (which is what an abuser is attempting to do, and why it's called and anti-abuse agent).

This is an addendum to my own post...I read my info sheet with the oxycontin, and it says it is NOT to be crushed or chewed. So I guess I should ask my doctor to just give me something different (without tylenol) for my breakthrough pain. It's just that he says I will be on this stuff for a long time and I don't want the tylenol at all! My co-worker told me I could just crush the pill and it would give me instant release. I have been on other "tylenol" added analgesics for years and my new doctor said I would fare better with oxycontin. For my livers sake. I have chronic osteo-myelitis and I can't have a knee replacement because the "superbug" in my knee could kill me at my age. The only smart thing to do is amputate and I'm not ready for that.
