Generic Oxycontin and Oxycodone Help!

My first question would be what would you choose for a generic Oxycontin 40? Now with that, all I can find available in my area is either endo or teva. I have the teva now and in my opinion doesnt come close to the other oxycontin that I have used being purdue and watson. I guess what I am getting at is what would you choose teva or endo? Why?

Next question is about oxyir 30mg. I have amide and ethex available to me. I am using amide right now with no major compliants but have read a lot of positive feedback on ethex. What would you choose?

Thanks for the help.

PS- The reason I ask what you would choose and only show a few of what is available to me is that I might be able to find a pharmacy that carries something different then the teva and endo in my area. I have already tried hard but am wondering if it is even worth the effort.

Well I have tried the endo

Well I have tried the endo and I will tell you it stinks!!

I haven't tried the Teva but I haven't heard good things about that one either.

Watson is the best generic as it is for all intensive purposes the same as the oxycontin made by purdue-pharma

The oxy IR that you speak of is also known as Roxicodone made by Roxanne and if you can, get that version.  However, the amide is also very good and i find it to be better than ethex and certainly a whole lot better than mallinckrodt which I urge you to stay away from.

Good luck

Thank you for the quick

Thank you for the quick reply. I will stick with the amide then and do my best for the watson. The endo was a little more expensive then teva  ($17 for the quanty and dosage I am prescribed) at the phamacies that carried the endo so I wont waste the money. I have had the watson oxycodone ER once before and found it very silimiar to the name brand. Do you or anybody else have any ideas on finding local phamacies that makes it easier to search for the medication then calling every pharmacy?

i had the same problem but

i had the same problem but here is what i did:

i just got out the phone book and called every pharmacy and said

"hi, i was taking purdues brand, and then insurance would only pay for generics, of which i have only tried _______. can you tell me which generics that you carry b/c i don't want to waste my time coming there if you carry the same".

most pharmacies were very agreeable although a couple acted like it was "top secret" information. but try that i think that it will help.

also a lot of pharmacy's will let you "special order" generics of your choice if you are willing to assure your future business w/ them. although usually the mom and pops are better at this. not much of a chance of getting CVS or walgreedys to do this.

best of luck.

I do apologize and really

I do apologize and really hate to be negative but i really don't care for the two major pharmacy's.

of course this is only my opinion but i really do perfer the smaller ones for several reasons. 1) they really appreciate and want your business 2) they are much more willing to go out of their way to help you.

once again this is only my opinion.

CVS

I also have to mention that it sems like in smaller pharmacies the quality of customer service is alot better. I went to CVS by my house for a long time while they were trying to figure out what was up wit my back and every time they changed or upped or did anything to a script of mine the pharm tech was extremely rude. He even refused to give me the meds unless he got verbal permission from the doctor then told the doc they were wrong. I know that they have certain standards to go by as well but when diagnosing(sp?) severe pain and such they should keep to them selves .. Maybe call while I wait and not be in your face rude. Just a thought!Cool

Wal-mart

If you have a wal-mart in your area, I know they carry the watsons, at least in Portland, OR. I have also had bad experiences with major chain pharmacies. Especially Rite-Aid and walgreens. Rite-Aid straight refused to fill my klonopin rx early even though my dr. had called three times, I had to keep calling her back bewcause they said it was too early and she was ticked and told me to change my pharmacy. Walgreens sucks too as they always question me about picking up narcs and controlled substances, especially cause i have 3 drs. a pcp, a pain doc and a psychiatrist. I have also found that smaller pharmacies take a lot less time filling your rx and never ask questions and know you by name and remeber your face usually. Not that wal-mart is a small pharmacy I just know they carry watson Oxy ER and they are a national pharmacy. No use in telling you the Pearl pharmacy by my house has watsons cause no one but myself or others in PDX can go there.

good luck

JeckPDX

also if you get a pre-auth from your ins. co, you can still get purdue oc covered by your ins depending on the company.

It must be a local thing and

It must be a local thing and not national because I use Wal-Mart here in Maine and they only carry the Endo version and can not order another type. At least this is what the pharmacist told me and it seems to be all the Wal-Marts in this state.

Thankfully my medicare part D drug plan covers the name brand oxycontin and my pain doc is willing to Rx them. The only problem is that oxycontin only lasts 8 hours for me and the drug plan only allows 60 pills a month.  If I want TID dosing I have to ask for a hearing and my experience with those isn't all that great

Medicare

I too have medicade and medicare with a part D plan. I dont understand my medicare drug plan well but I used to get the name brand oxycontin also. I do remember last summer when either the generics under 80's werent out or nobody carried them but I went to my doctor after getting the generics and asked for a script for double the 40's of the name brand. He did so with really no questions asked. I just brought him the 80's I had so they could flush them and he wrote the new script.

medicare part D

I am new to this forum and the set up, I am not sure if you can PM or not with it but I would be interested in talking with you about medicare Rx plans. Everytime I contact them I have gotten a different answer as far a my coverage goes. Thanks for your help and everybody elses.

I ended up with ENDO

All I could find were the endo and ended up with those which I do like better then the tevas (not much better, but better). I got the name of the lady in charge of ordering for the pharmacy I usually use and am going to call her tomorrow with a request for the watson if I cant get the real deal anymore.

Update

I have moved back up to the 80mg oxycodone ER. Evem though my insurance didnt cover it (non network pharmacy) I bought the watson 80's. I notice no differece between these and the purdue except price. They are also cheaper then any other generic oxy ER (endo, teva, etc.) in my area. The 80mg tabs were only $3.66 a tab, which is $8 cheaper then purdue, and $2-5 cheaper then other generics. I feel much better having a quality med at a good price. As far as the 30mg oxy IR, the two brands tried are amide and ethex and notice no price difference and would have to say that amide seems to be more effective.

oxy ir 30-help

i have been taking amide 30mg generic oxy tabs for 8 months now, as a result of a injury that accured at work. i have found that my own preferances stay with amide pharmacy. i have gone thru the call around with local phamacies to try the diff. availible meds, ethex,mlckt,ect..et. i have suprisingly been treated very well by my local walmart, and also by the "the big 3" in my area. i have tried all the  different generics availible to me, and have found that amide pharmacy suites me the best, as far as obtaining a med that lasts the prescribing time, and amount of prescribed relief. i would recommend that u try the other generic brands that u have avalible to u, to find which suites u best. as we all know each person is different. and oh yea, let me know if u come up with a better solution other than calling every one by phone:)

For the oxycodone IR I have

For the oxycodone IR I have used the amide, ethex, and mallinckrodt, and I prefer the amide for anybody that is interested. I went back to the endo for the oxycodone ER at 80mg 3 times a day. The pharmacy I go to has it at  $290 for 90.

A little off subject, arent all generics besides watson suposs to be taken off the market soon? Thanks

endo and purdue did have a

endo and purdue did have a settlement where endo (and ivax also i believe) agreed to to quit the production of their forms of oxycodone sr. i think they mainly agreed to it b/c of endos launch of opana.

i will see if i can find that article and bump it up.

Ahh, I see.  I

Ahh, I see.  I misinterpreted "aren't all generics going to be pulled besides watson" to mean "all" generics, not just the Oxycodone SR.   A little misinterpretation  goes a long way.

to be honest, the whole

to be honest, the whole thing has confused me. i have read a couple of conflicting reports. i have read that endo will stop, i have also read endo and ivax will stop. i have also read that only purdue and "purdue approved" generics will be available.

with all that being said.... i guess we will know when whatever happens, happens (enlightening, i know)

Just switched to oxyer &oxyir have ?

I just got switched to these 2 meds from the meth I was on and ran accross this and found the info to be useful and since I have a problem finding things again I wanted to post so I could get here again and also to say thanks to everyone for the time put in so I do not have to go thru the same thing ( its been awhile but I know some generics aren't as good ). I ended up with endo and ethex and won't know til a little while longer but thinking I may just pay the price difference. I'll have to wait and see. I do have a question what exactly is the difference in generics... how much or little are they allowed to change it, how exactly does this work? Jamie

This question is on here

This question is on here several times.

I attempted to answer this question in this post. (Two posts near the middle of the page).

But apparently people make statements, without citings, trying to disprove posts such as these.

Moral of the story is, I now chose to abstain from posts such as these to avoid arguements with people who provide misinformation (with no sources to back up their claims). But I feel that if you read my two posts, and follow the links I provided, your question should be answered.

If you aren't satisfied with the answers provided in the post, there are several other discussing this topic. You will just have to do some browsing to find them.
